I think the inclusion of Oliver back into the team has lifted the entire midfield, I've said all year that we are a better team with him in it.

It's going to get very interesting at Hawthorn when he's #1 in the next couple of years.  They'll be seeking to rectify this with some heavy FA and trading but there's only so much can be achieved each year.

Agree but it was yet another great bit of coaching to give him a rest and one point and sending him back to the vfl for a block of games. Yes it is still senior footy but nearly as intense, minutes can be managed and players can work on defeciencies, in oliver's case his defensive skills.

They learnt their kesson from gus flagging near the end of last seaon and now have a fit and firing oliver back in the side.

By the by, said it before and will say it again. The kid is a jet. So glad he is ours

and next year you might find one of Brayshaw, Oliver, Petracca lifting to Vineys level, and Tyson will be in an even better position.

I've said this before, probably somewhere on this thread.

Tyson is a very important part of the mix because he is like the rugby league front rower. He is our strongest mid, rarely beaten one on one and either holds or dishes out.

He's not getting caught out as much now because teammates are working off him.

He's also a very smart footballer who can make good position down the ground and of course is a goal kicker.

There are some great footy pundits on here whose analysis and commentary I love to read, but I really don't understand the obsession some have with being - or seeming to be - dispassionate, calm and analytical in their comments, especially in the heat of a game.

I find some of the posts in the game day thread hilarious for their levels of hysteria, but I understand it. As you are fond of reminding us, it's just footy; what's the big deal if you want a player banished to the moon for making a mistake one minute, and then all's forgiven next minute when they do something good.

Suggest it to the forum software dev team as an enhancement (not sure how sorry - by email?).  There's no reason that the software can't be clever enough to block out quotes as well as posts from a poster you have blocked.

Yes there is. And that's occasionaly choosing to read a post from a blocked poster and feeling doubly stupid for one, doing so and two reading the content.

See, at the moment, I'm quite happy if other sides feel that they have to tag Viney & Jones, because IMO Tyson is a more damaging mid, just because his disposal is so much better, and because he brings other mids into the game. This was well-illustrated by the Port game where Viney was tagged right out of it and Jones spent a lot of the first three quarters butchering the ball, but our midfield didn't miss a beat and we smashed them in clearances & contested ball. 

Viney to me is a bit one-dimensional at stoppages. When he gets the ball, he simply tries to crash through the stoppage and then bomb it in as far as he can to another contest. Now, he's absolutely fantastic at doing that, but it's not difficult to counter, which is why we still have trouble against teams that stack their d50 and launch their attacks from half-back. The times when Viney does lower his eyes and look for targets, and try to work his way through stoppages rather than crash his way through them, he's unstoppable. But there were a few contested situations against Port where one of his teammates was about to work the ball free from a stoppage, only to have Viney crash in and lock the ball up.

Tyson, on the other hand, looks to get the ball from stoppages into space, and thus brings his fellow mids, and the players downfield, into the game more.

I'm not saying that Tyson is "better" than Viney - it's like trying to argue who is better out of Mitchell and Hodge, they just complement each other so well. It's just that to me, having Viney taken out of the game is nowhere near as damaging for us at the moment as having Tyson taken out of the game. And we show every sign of having an unbelievably multifaceted midfield involving the likes of Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw & Salem, as well as Viney, Jones & Tyson, that is going to be incredibly difficult to counter. 

I also think that he past 5 or 6 games (perhaps since West Coast) is the only time in the past 10 years or so that we've actually had a midfield, rather than just a combination of midfielders.

I don't think it will be tight. Brayshaw is going to be an absolute star. I think he'll be a definite A grader. I see Tyson as more of a solid B grader.
