Pick 3 for me we have to take Parish. Clearly the best mid there is.

I highly doubt Essendon will take two key position players at 4 & 5 and we likely know who Gold Coast are looking at, so i'm confident one of Curnow, Francis or Weideman will be there at 7. Where as if we took a key positionat 3 there's no chance Parish will still be there at 7.

I think we'll take Francis, he is an athletic beast. My cousin - who lives in SA - reckons Francis is the best kid in the draft. He is usually thereabouts with SA kids, he never rated Toumpas as a player, and was proven somewhat correct. I reckon we will take Francis.

Did anyone else just got extremely excited about draft day? 4 live picks two that are top 10 to go with our new recruits is a bliss!

We've come out on top, out of all the clubs.

Better than Geelong?

Well played MFC!!!

This trade period was like an episode of Game of Thrones! I like how we got the Melksham deal done, letting Essendon think all through the trade period that Darcy Parish was heading to windy hill.

Today's switch of picks would have Essendon seething!!!

3 - Parish

7 - Francis

That is all.

Natural footballers. Competitive. Elite users and decision makers.

Francis just sounds a safer bet than Curnow from my limited reading. And from this limited reading, this is who I'd like.

These are the sort of attributes that, for us, are non-negotiables. Parish and Francis are two that seemingly have those traits and would, therefore, fit in well with our plans going forward.

There are others who the phrases 'great athlete', 'super runner' etc are attributed to who instantly make me feel uneasy. We need to stay away from those types and focus on the above skills and traits.

A) Essendon.

B) Melbourne.

Probably put St Kilda in the former as well. I don't think there is a right answer to it. Playing hardball could also deter players to consider other options in the future. Essendon appear to take this approach. IMO there are advantage/disadvantages to both strategies. In Essendons case - and Collingwood last year - if they rushed through their trades, they would've short changed themselves. Collingwood held firm last year and gained Crisp in doing so - he ended up 3rd in their Copeland medal. Essendon held firm and got a better deal off of St Kilda this year.

I think Essendon were far more 'B' than 'A' this year. They were only held up on the Carlisle deal because St Kilda were trying the 'A' approach. It nearly cost the Saints their man, since Hawthorn were waiting in the wings with their 'B' offer. 'B' doesn't mean accepting a bum deal and Essendon rightfully stood their ground in that case.

This view of trading for me was solidified for me a few years ago when Essendon ended up in arbitration with GCS over their Caddy trade which ended up missing the deadline. This is an extreme example of how it go wrong if you choose option 'A'.

If we'd spent forever faffing around on the Melksham deal, we'd have wasted both ours and their time that we both needed to use on pick upgrading. Then next year when we needed something from Essendon, they'd tell us to go jump.

Welcome to the club indeed Messers picks 3 and 7. Although your stay is only brief may you introduce us to a couple of 10 year prospects!

Im going with 3. Parish and 7. Weideman if Dons dont take him (very unlikely) so most likely Curnow

I suspect, Gold Coast, after losing Dixon, will take Weideman. If not Weidman, they will go for Curnow.

We might just have to get whoever is left over.

Think we will bid for Mills with pick 3. It's win/win really - Mills or Parish.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
