It should be so easy to fix though. A simple change "every time you get it, take the first option immediately, even if it is a short kick."

It is painful because you can see him identify the option, but then he hesitates.

I think Grimes has the tools it's just reprogramming him following our darkest years to take the first option without second guessing himself. He deserves some time to address this and I think stepping back from co captaincy and spending some time in the VFL to 'enjoy' his footy again is part of a program to get him playing properly.

He does a lot of good things but the second guessing needs to change.

We should pick Fitzy to counter Brown & Petrie, but we won't, because we never pick sides to counter opposition threats.

So we'll go in undersized in defence & either Brown or Petrie will do a Daniher and kick whatever-straight to be the match winner.

Gawn will beat Goldie until the 20-minute mark in the 3rd quarter when he'll run out of puff. And when those two need a rest, Brown will smash Dawes and we'll get killed in the clearances.

And another game we could have won thrown away at the selection table.

Petrie and especially Brown are much bigger than all our regular defenders. We really, really need Fitzy this week and doubley so to help Gawn against Goldstein.

I like grimes. I want him to make it as much as i want Trengove to make it back.

But his hesitation kills me. And kills our momentum.

So many times yesterday he had the ball and doesn't take the first option. He looked up, took a step and started to kick to an option but then pulled up, paused and took a couple more steps back before waiting and looking some more and eventually kicking long to a contest.

He needs to take the first option. Take the short easy option. No worries.

I'd rather us kick it 15 m forward out of the D50 so the long bomb passes centre than kick long from inside D50 which means there is a risk it'll come straight back in one kick.

He defends ok. He closes and punches very well. His disposal isn't horrible. But he needs to improve the decision making if he wants to continue at AFL.

Has done this his whole career Not up to modern footy unfortunately. Then after hesitating either gets caught, hand passes to some one under more pressur, kicks out on the full or into the man on the mark. Absolute liability.

Really looking forward to this match - because I reckon we are a big chance and at the same time North are in form and have owned us since 2006.

They have so many great blue-collar workers - Ziebell, Cunnington, Swallow and some tough hombres down back with Thompson, Wright and Firrito (if he avoids ban).

They also have some skill in Dal Santo, Higgins, Harvey and Thomas and of course they have the All-Aussie ruckman.

They are also really tall, have big mature bodies like the Hawks and they generally bully us into submission. They might even be bigger this week with Hansen likely to replace Firrito and Majak Daw not that far off a game after smashing our Casey boys on the weekend.

About the only thing they lack is pace, which is what we struggle with a bit as well - so it shapes as a great game and it would be a huge scalp for us because we are up against a full-strength, form side - not to mention we haven't gone back-to-back wins since 2011.

I have already said it would be crazy to go into this game without a back-up big and I'm happy with either Fitzy or Jamar playing instead of Michie - preference is for Fitzy to play Brown all day, but there is a case for Jamar as well. Obviously if it's wet then that may need to be reviewed.

Aside from the tricky decision on whether to play Salem, there are two other players who have really put their hand up this week - Matt Jones and Riley - although it's hard to see another change given everyone put in v the Pies and the three most likely omissions - Grimes, ANB and Harmes - all have really strong reasons for remaining.

When you look at match-ups, it's really interesting just how even it could be.

Down back it's: Jetta (Thomas), Lumumba (Harvey), Garland/Cross (Higgins), Howe/Garland (Brown), Dunn (Petrie), T-Mac (Waite), Cross/Howe (Garner). When Ziebell goes forward it's Cross. The height of North's big three - Brown, Waite and Petrie is why I'd prefer to have Fitzy in this week to play Brown and send Garland forward (yes he can play there, it's just that we never want to play him there for some reason).

In the middle it's: Gawn (Goldstein), N.Jones (Cunnington will tag him), Swallow (Vince will tag him), Viney (Ziebell - this is a tough one for Viney, but so long as Crossy picks him up when he goes forward, then we are OK), back-ups Tyson (Bastinac).

Pretty much agree with your analysis and line-up, although I reckon I'd have T-Mac on Brown and probably Garland on Waite. Brown hurt us last time (4 goals?) and uses his body more than Waite. Howe may be on option on Waite - similar types of players?

Personally id rather rate him based where he plays his natural position not stuck up forward all game.
