I thought we were out coached, hopeless decision not to go in with two ruckmen, and play the Ped as a fulltime forward and stretch them a bit, also Fyfe yes what a champ, and why did they change Hook foot Howe back forward, he couldn't hit the side of the titanic two years ago and nothing has changed, Brayshaw is the real deal, has enough ability to be at home at Freo.

Can someone set Dom Tyson's alarm clock next week, if he could wake up some time this season, that'd be great.

Pedo is best 22.

Watts isn't.

Thank [censored] for Tom McDonald.

[censored] everything else.

Tyson is injured. Barely played in the middle. Not really fair to lay into him.

Back to goal practice for Howe.

Fyfe= Brownlow.

Different roles.

Ped can clunk marks further up the ground.

Hogan was monstered by Freo today.....so, I believe that there's room for both.

I would rate Pedo marginally ahead of Dawes in a forward role so my preference here.

BUT, unfortunately Pedo is useless in a resting ruck role. Dawes does a better job in this regard.

So for me it's Watts out. Pedo down back to shore up the CHB line. Dawes back into the forward line along with Howe for the marks i50, which we don't take enough of and which are critical if we are to win going forward (assuming Howe can find his kicking boot  )

6 goals on a perfect day for Football

Still a long way off. List is just not good enogh.

Chris Conolly can keep his trap shut btw. I found that article in todays press to be in very bad taste considering the mess he left behind.

We're still 1-2 more drafts away from having some decent depth. Once somebody from our best 22-24 players are injured we start scraping the barrel, whereas the stronger sides can find players on their top 35 that would make our top 22.

To be fair, they weren't easy shots....and when you're 50/50 anyway, the angle made the shots 80/20 against.

Forget the last 20 minutes. Howe had a set shot which hit the post, had it of gone through the difference would have been 22. Against the team that looks destined to finish top 2, that a reasonable result. We lacked a bit of polish, we couldn't help hogan out and we are still 1 or 2 midfielders short on depth. The reality is we are still a while off the top teams, but with viney, jetta, dawes out and Jones and Tyson clearly injured, we put up a good fight for 3 and a half quarters.

Disappointing that we got nothing out of watts again. Someone needed to step up across half forward to help hogan out and Pedersen was solid, but watts offered nothing. Howe continues to miss kickable goals and garlett wasn't much better. Take some positives and keep working hard after getting a reality check and look forward to taking on a sydney team that will come out and play equally as hard.

Pedersen took his chances. Bring Dawes back and drop Watts.

Mckenzie.. oh god... and to think Saty was telling us he had improved his disposal and was in our best 22..

Grimes.. meh..

I have mixed emotions now after i was happy with the effort up to half time. The quicker we get Viney Kent Jetta Dawes back the quicker..

You could see the players completely switch off after that Freo goal at the start of the 4th. We peppered point after point for 5 minutes with no reward for our efforts.

Then Freo scored far too easily and the team gave up.

To be fair Walter and then Ballentyne did nothing on Grimes. He won his position.

Watts is better than any player we bring up from the vfl, but his intensity at the ball is still disappointing. How' about we play him as sub? Or we actually use him more.. E.g. most kick outs I couldn't help but think watts by himself on one side of the 50 on an opposition player 10-30cm smaller than him would be a great opportunity to kick to him and hope he either marks it or gets a free.. I could see that being a "Fyfe" like bail out kick.. But the few times he was in this situation no1 kicked it to him.. It would give him confidence and help the team as he is a great kick.. Thoughts?

And, that is the unacceptable part!

Pedo=not much of a player but fills all positions and never gives in.

Brayshaw=will like for another 8 years.

Backline is slowly coming together.

Forwards getting ther

Mids still need some help and dangerfeild might be on the way.

Almost forgot, the bloke wearing No3 is becoming a valuable player.

Seriously innit until 10 gone in the last , miss miss miss , not good enough in front of goal garlett brayshaw keep a runnin howe kick straight and all of a sudden its reward for effort time.

Umpire28 should be banned trom all mfc games and just umpire his mates at hawks and dockers

We had 3 of the top 16 possession getters on the day. Think about that. Then think about what a team like Freo do when they have 100 more uncontested possessions like they did today. 20 less Inside 50s...

Again, our midfield is still so poor that they struggle to create run but are also seen in such a light by their opposition that they are given little respect and are run off of at ease.

We will never match it with teams like Freo until we have a better midfield rotation with cleaner skills and good decision making. Jones, Vince and Tyson were down and Cross, Michie, VandenBerg, and Brayshaw are over matched for the task today.

I'm not surprised at this loss. Roos has been telling me for ages now that we were hopeless ("the worse it got the more interested I became") and although we have made some progress we still had miles to go to be a good team. He's also been telling me good teams like Freo and Hawks are.

Personally I believe him as I'm sure the players took it on board as well. I went along today expecting to be thrashed as I'm sure the players did. He was right of course and I thank him for warning me.

I haven't read this thread but I'm sure McKenzie, Watts and Grimes have been mentioned but our leaders were dreadful and were the reason we finished as poorly as we did.

Anyone know what the extent of Salems injury is?

He was very good before subbed out.

On another note:

Disappointed with Howe in that last quarter - a senior player and missed 3 or 4 shots on goal just not good enough

Thats why he's in the backline.

The blokes like a deer in headlights infront of goal.

Watts was a liability today. Watched him closely all day. Missed at least 5 tackles and ran past 2 other Freo players that he could have tackled.

He is simply unable to win a one on one contest and impose himself on a game. I like when he has ball in had generally but we can't carry him any longer. He has zero, repeat zero intensity.

Rather have Pedersen.

Concussed taking that Watts-like mark.

Was off with concussion. Probably when that mongrel Clarke flattened him.

Surely if that is the case he should be reported by the MRP?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
