Oh ffs, non issue as far as I am concerned. Yeah he is stupid blah blah, it's not a misbehaviour that occurred while at our club, for god sake don't suspend him from games as that is detrimental to the team and fans.

Driving drunk, over twice the legal limit... he could've hit and killed one of our fans.

Agreed, and let's wait till all the facts are known, and leave it with Mahoney, the lazy journos who trawl this site looking for news will love this, some of the posts in this topic say more about the poster than Jeff Garlett

Where's Liam Pickering in all this? Agents/Managers are well paid. This is the kind of stuff they get paid for, particularly when a player is dealing with an issue whilst transitioning from one club to the next.

Meh. It's between him and the courts. As long as he shows up to training I don't care about the rest of it.

You might find his ability to show up to training might be compromised by court decisions. Failing to tell the club about upcoming appearances is not a good move, whichever way you look at it. The club would have assisted him in managing and prioritising his diary. Good footballer, it appears, but clearly not a clever guy. MFC will be watching him and managing him in minutiae from now on, so it's more than just between him and the courts. If by chance he didn't tell the club because he didn't want his new club to worry about him, then this has proved to be counterproductive. From the limited info we have, Garlett simply appears to be poorly organised and hasn't taken the care required to get his act together. I hope it's nothing further.

I take it he wont be invited to the season launch.

That is of course unless Biff & BBO are recruited as his minders.

Sweep this one under the rug, my suggestion for a penalty...nothing, move on....next.

Ok, so anyone else who makes this mistake, receives a loss of liscence and a fine. Repeat offenders get jail time. But to get stood down from your job because of something that happened before your employment, that's a bit unreasonable. Use this as a means to educate the kid, support him, guide him through it. Give him focus. Who knows, Jeff and the mfc may come out better on the other side

Speaking of. It's another cross against his name. They are adding up on my score card. I just don't trust his leadership.

Missing the court hearing is one thing. It's possible that in moving house he didn't get the summons or something like that (having said that, you can search for your name on the court's website and it tells you when your hearing is so it's not really an excuse).

Not telling the club about the charge is another level of stupidity, though. This is his new start, his second chance at his career. I'd have thought he'd have told before, or right on, signing that he had this coming up.

Pretty poor stuff. Not a great first impression.

When he was a Carlton player:

"What a complete loser. I hope he goes to Jail because he could've crashed and killed people being that drunk behind the wheel."

As a Melbourne player:

"Throw the book at him. Suspend him from the NAB challenge game against the Bombers.. That'll teach him."

This is the crux in one - managers are paid well. Their job encompasses public relations, personal mentoring, legal advice/referrals, financial advice and the list goes on, I know one manager whom I spoke with today who would never ever ever have let his client miss a court case and face the subsequent fallout,

The reports as to his brilliance at training and in the interclub excite the hell out of me.

Stoked we picked him up. And for what seems to be an absolute bargain too.

There was a reason he was a bargain though.

It's now up to the MFC (coaching and leadership groups) to return his off-field behaviour to where it needs to be.

Very silly man.

The people that say they dont care and wanna sweep it under the carpet seriously get stuffed! As someone thats lost a good mate from a drunken idiot behind the wheel It is a serious offence to me and the fact that he didn't tell the club was just plain stupid!

Some of these so call professional athletes need to grow up and be greatful that they are given a chance of a lifetime to do what i would give up my left nut for. Start taking responsibility for their own actions for once.

Most players apply themselves the 1st pre-season at new clubs. (unless you're Colin Sylvia)
So it's not this year I worry about Garlett.
It's next year and the year after when he feels comfortable in his new surroundings where he'll reveal his true stupidity.
It wasn't luck a 30-40 goal a year player fell into our lap at pick 63.
Malthouse has been around footballers a long time and knows a DH when he sees one.
And he didn't think this one was worth putting up with no matter how many goals he kicked.

Absolutely needs to be disciplined. If nothing else, so he can be crystal clear that he won't be getting up to the same old stupidity at his new club without severe consequences

This is his second chance.

Can't believe he would he so dumb as to stuff it up, especially with a young family.

The consequences at Carlton were about as severe as they come, and discipline failed miserably.

Garlett needs hugs from Roosy. Thats why he is with us, same as H.

He can have a hug for the personal problems he had last year. But he needs a stern talking to at a minimum and a warning about honesty. Dishonesty is the worst thing in a club, it's worse than screwing up, which in this case is missing the court attendance. The actual drink driving is last years problem, he was sacked from Carlton.

If Roos and Co determine that missing a court case and more importantly not telling the MFC about it in the first place or being so stupid not to know is worthy of a punishment for either blatant stupidity or more likely dishonesty then I think that's fair enough.

You can cuddle and discipline at the same time!

All I meant was don't let this get in the way of all the hard work he has done this pre season and he could be the X factor that we have been missing up forward since Jurrah.

Seriously?

People here are not saying they don't care about drink driving, more so the stupidity of missing a court date.

Garlett and his excuse of a manager have stuffed up here, but it's not an offence that deserves suspension IMO, if he had been drink driving while at the Demons it would be a different story and most if not all would be calling for a suspension, but this is not the issue. The issue is 2 very foolish people not knowing about a court case and not informing the club about something they had forgotten about!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
