Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

GOODBYE MITCH CLARK

Exactly. Look at the bile directed at Scully, Clark, McLean, Frawley etc when we want (or have done) the same with Dangerfield, Clark (again), Walker, Shiel etc etc

You can't have it both ways. It's the way the world works.

I understand what your saying, but Clark gave us nothing and took a lot .

We paid him 2 million dollars for eleven games and he wants to walk out on us.

If players have been at the club for a while and given good service like Frawley , then so be it, but the whole Clark saga stinks.

I believe that Clark was suffering from depression. If for nothing else than to come out and say such a thing if you didn't have depression is just extremely poor taste, and it makes a mockery of the people that do suffer from depression.

... I am less inclined to believe however that this is the reason behind why he chose to retire from the club. I get a sense that there is far more to what has occurred, and that it is extremely unlikely to ever come out.

A month ago, my thoughts were that Clark would be delisted. Now even though he is likely to leave the club, we get the chance to trade him out, save some salary for next year, and bring in some players that want to play for the MFC. In anyones book thats has to be seen as a positive.

This really gets to me, I think he is making a mockery now and is doing a lot of harm to the issue.

I don't want to sound like Martin Luther King but - I have a dream.

Mitch knows that his foot is stuffed.

He asked the MFC who do we hate, they said Collingwood,

He said lets set up a scam so that Collingwood think they can get me for stuff all.

They trade a player and the AFL gives a priority selection based on the unusual circumstances.

We get Harry Who and pick 4 in the draft (after the Frawley compensation)

Mitch does a pre season with the Pies and breaks down for good and gets another pay out.

How good would that be?

Yes.

Depression is episodic, and at the time he may very well have met the criteria for a diagnosis of 'depression'. That and his current acts may or may not be directly related. If he was running a negative past orientation and stable attribution style (I'm injured, have been for ages, will never get better...) thinking process, then helplessness, hopelessness, social isolation and depressed mood would have all been realistic outcomes for him.

We are not in a position to judge that.

We are in a position to judge his current (expected) actions, however.

If he is running a comorbid anxiety, and he believes that the MFC may act as a trigger to 'kick off' his depression again, I could understand his reluctance. However, avoidance is a poor coping strategy. Would need to address the external locus of control (it's the MFC, I have no responsibility for my response), stable (it will always be like that) and negative expectation. Suggest if a clinician has advised avoidance, he has been poorly advised.

Seems to me there is a lot more going on, and MFC may be exercising more control than we give them credit for. Let's see how it plays out.

I'm not one of the mods, but I think I should give you a warning. This is Demonland. We don't deal with facts here.

(But well said, nevertheless).

All I wish is that he'd see we're going places, get excited about the appointment of Goodwin, get excited about the trade period and who we could potentially land again..

But if course I don't know about clinical depression personally and how being at the MFC may well trigger some of those dark episodes again.. And I won't comment about it.

I still hold hope that he decides to stay.

If he was out of contract and wanted to leave, fair enough that's the nature of the sport now.

The fact that he was still contracted for next year yet we restructured it to pay him out on the udnerstanding we'd be the team he returned to if he was able to make a comeback and then go shopping round other clubs is what gets me. It's despicable behaviour and shows a complete lack of ethics and honour.

I think the chances of that happening now lie somewhere between buckleys and bugger all.

Heard Voss say something like he would like Mitch to "see something through, but he won't". The implication being that Mitch will take the easy way out if the going gets tough. Signs of a lack of mental toughness! . Lots of on-field physical courage but a 'fair weather sailor'!

I bet he won't make it at the next club either.

The Bulldogs will lose Crameri with the asada issue. So they will need a forward, we could off load Mr Clark to the kennell for someone like Hrovat or Tutt. I hate the filth with every ounce of my being and would rather rub wasabi in my [censored] eye than let them have something from us.

So it has been 11 days and 1727 posts in this thread since GNF 'broke' the big news

Are we really any the wiser as to what is going on?

Why do these things always take so long?

Reading between the lines it seems quite clear that Mitch wants to leave and Collingwood is his preferred destination. What isn't clear is is it the Dees who won't play ball with MC or MC who doesn't want to play ball with the Dees. Bottom line is MC will never play for the Dees again.

The hypocrisy leaking out of Eddie's ears as he tries to explain how it was the best thing for everyone will be good for a laugh though.

I wouldn't be expecting to hear anything out of the club until after the AFL makes a determination on our "special assistance" submission

I get the feeling that the loss of "our best player" was one of the key planks in that submission.

Well put, make no mistake it's a Grubs act.

AFL.com has an article with Buck's saying he has met with Mitch and he would love to have him on board and confirms that Mitch wants and needs a fresh start, doctor's orders apparently! Also confirms Hertier wants out so there could be a straight swap?

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
