I'm not going to lie but I was getting a little emotional when ever Watts kicked a goal.

The guy has copped a lot since he got drafted and even when he had a chance to get out he stuck with us so I am really happy to see him play well.

Now for the Tomp to start playing well.

Big difference between Watts and Toump. Watts is calm, poised and has never panicked. Toumpas is the opposite.

Watts was no 1 pick off the back of exceptional form - Toumpas a high pick of the back a SANFL final, yet average form against his own age.

No comparison. I'd of picked Watts pick 1 and Toumpas 15-20.

Totally agree.

I'm so happy for him. He worked his backside off today and had one of his best games ever.

Nobody has copped more or played under more pressure than Watts. He could have walked away and chose to stick it out (take note Clark you coward!).

Nothing would please me more than him having a cracking season and proving the haters wrong.

Some of the stuff he does only he can do. He's a rare talent and we are absolutely a better team when he's playing well.

Watts was excellent today. Nobody expects him to be Glen bloody Archer, but he worked hard and presented all day. And had the polish as well, excellent stuff.

I don't think anyone ever expected Watts to be like Archer.

He has about 6-8 of these games a season.

The criticisms with any merit are the ones that bemoan his consistency.

What he did today was not new - he can even do more than that.

But he just needs to not drop too far from that standard.

Having said that - we don't get 52 Inside 50s that often - and when we play well, it gives a chance for the forwards.

And they responded; Hogan/Garlett/Watts kicked 7.5 and fluffed a couple more.

watts will still continue to frustrate us but he just needs to believe in himself that he can be good and he can play the way he does today.

I mean he fumbled that mark in the goal square then minutes later he is back in the fans good books when he kicks a goal.

When watts has the ball im usually confident because he is a beautiful user of it.

But what he did today is the Jack we want every week.

I disagree, I just think Watts inconsistency thus far - has more to do with his age/maturity.

Watts dominated the juniors and when he gets that maturity - will dominate the AFL.

My friends still laugh at me when I talk up Jack Watts, but I just shake my head at them, kids need time. We don't give them time, but they need it.

Others have said the same thing, but my god I admire Watts for hanging in there in the face of the barrage of criticism he's copped (which would have been minimal had he gone tenth pick instead of first).

That's my point. People, including myself, were critical of his lack of physicality and work rate. And the apologists tried to make out we wanted him to play like Glen Archer. But of course he doesn't, he just has to do what he did today over and over again and he is a star.

We won today... I mentioned on previous threads that I was very bullish about his game. Jack watts is an integral part of this team...he may not be brilliant over 4 qrtr but he is an amazing player. If you were at the game today he was in space so many times....I will put it ou there now....get around him ....embrace him & laud him for the player he is......we are definitely a better team with him in it!!! His loyalty ... I could go on.... But for those haters get off his back ,,,

Toumpas wasn't averaged against his own age group. He was an All Australian on baller during the under 18 championships.

Do your research first before wacking the kid.

He did a magical tap to Jeffy for both his goals.

Watts is a genius. Great footy brain.

Been doing it for a while has Jack, the difference seems that Roos has finally shed whoever's orders it was to not kick to Jack under any circumstances...

Good game from Jack today, yet a few of his disposals were below his usual high standards. Were they all his usual quality he could have gone close to being our best. (Tommy McD takes that one hands down. )

I think he's got a great basketball brain. That can sometimes be his downfall, but there's still a lot of overlap with footy so every now and then he does some great things.

He was average and I don't know why he was AA, came into the champs with dodgy hips. Played like a bloke with dodgy hips.

I don't have to do my research, I watched the games. Do your research and actually watch games - instead of just going off accolades.

Toumpas was picked off strong SANFL form, not strong form in the nationals.

Moron. He was Captain of SA. Injured his hips DURING the Champs in Game 2. Missed Game 3 along with Troy Menzel (only game SA lost). Came back for last 2 games and they won with him in it! Second last game against WA at Skilled Stadium was off for the last quarter when the Sandgropers made a late charge because he wasn't there directing his team around the park. All Aus because he deserved it. As picked by a plethora of AFL insiders including Shifter Sheehan, AIS/AFL Coaches and Recruiters. He lead from the front if you watched. Do YOUR homework mate.

Chicken or egg as to whether Watts powers the team or vice versa. In the passed he's played much better in games were we've been beating a lowly opponent. Today was very good though (minus the dropped chest mark and strange half back turnover).

Half forward has always been his go but his lack of intensity combined with a terrible team has seen him being sent to the wings or half back to search for easier kicks.

A couple of good marks today but the standout in his game was some really clever and strong ground ball gathers under pressure. He picked a few up off the bounce that looked like basketball bounces, that's not easy in footy.

That late goal was something nice as well.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
