It's simply Swann trying to look after Brisbane. I would hope PJ would do the same if the shoe was on the other foot, protecting his own clubs interest.

Damo saying 'It will now be an issue' is so that, if it becomes an issue, he feels like a slightly more special snowflake. Same with his 'belief' that we will get pick 3, so when it happens he is right again.

Greg Swann is just a crybaby

If they had the pick before us we wouldn't hear a peep out of him

Imagine the whining that would be coming out of Swann if Rockliff was an UFA, he'd be demanding the highest compo on offer. Sure Rockliff might be a better player than Chip, but in terms of importance in the team line-up, he'd be no greater than James.

It is firmly ingrained in Swann to kick the poor clubs, someone needs to remind him he is now at one!

MFC will receive an early pick for Frawley, not based on how good Frawley is - but based on his importance to our side.

Not only that, but I believe there will be a bidding war for James Frawley.

Fremantle clearly need him - and should have cap space. Hawthorn should have cap space, Geelong want and despately need him.

Gold Coast the dark horse.

No we won't. My sense is that Roos has been given the inside word from AFL House that it will be Pick 3.

Surely this was part of PJ's application in the wake of the GWS embarrassment? To see what our comp for Frawley would be. It was announced as 'no priority pick for Melbourne', but I would be surprised if we didn't hear what our compensation would be then.

I am as confident about Pick 3 as I was about Sylvia's Band 3 compensation.

We will have Pick 3.

I am concerned if he goes to a club like Geelong, who generally pay their players unders to keep them all together (less than what many would get elsewhere anyway).

What if Frawley gets an 'unders' contract?

How 'unders' can it get before we would risk losing pick 3?

Dead set [censored]. Bet if the shoe was on the other foot and Brisbane were losing an AA key defender entering their prime, he'd be stomping his feet having a whinge about Brisbane needing a first round pick.

I do think we'll get pick 3 and I'm confident the AFL have promised it to us behind closed doors, but I also get the distinct feeling there will be faux outrage from other clubs once it happens, and the AFL will end up canceling compo picks as a result.

I can already hear the chorus of whine from other clubs.

Time to get the violins out!

Greg Swann currently on trade radio having a sook we might be getting pick 3 for Chip

His team Brisbane would move from pick 4 to 5

What a sook, shut the [censored] up Swann you clown

He knows that it'll further dilute their trading power on Beams.

Geelong pay unders, yes. But the Hawks are premiers and from all reports are leading the race.

Would Chip choose Geelong for less money just to be with Rivers and Clark? One isn't far off retiring and the other might never play a game.

If the Hawks offer $50-$100k more over the same duration, they'd be hard to turn down.

Chip delaying his decision until after the GF says he wants to know what the Hawks are offering, which probably means playing with his mate at Geelong ain't as important as getting himself a better deal.

The Hawks have Bruce, Yze and Cheney at the club, it's not as if he won't know anybody there. Frawley is known as a poor decision maker if he goes to Geelong it would be another poor decision.

Swann's a cantankerous old fool who should get his own house in order before criticising others. If pick 5 isn't enough to get Beams, guess what? There's this magical thing called a trade market. What you do is call the teams with higher picks and offer them players in exchange for getting said higher picks, especially if you've made the inspired decision to poach contracted players from the most difficult trade table club in the league.

So how about you get back to worrying about important issues like, I don't know... fixing your club's $12m debt? Making the Lions remotely relevant? Maybe if you've got any spare brain cells after that you could even turn a profit like us, rather than be drip fed money by the AFL?*

PS: Next time your club sacks a coach, they should probably make sure the replacement wants to come coach you first. Must hurt knowing he chose us instead. :)

*aware of blatant hypocrisy

As for Malthouse pondering why every club should have to suffer because we can't hold on to Frawley? More great logic there from Mickey. Bet he wouldn't be too concerned about the 11 teams above him on the ladder moving down a pick if he got pick 8 as compensation for losing Gibbs.

Anyway, I doubt we've formed our entire recruitment strategy around the "potential" of getting pick 3. It would've been assured behind closed doors, probably around the time the PP was rejected. Roos isn't dumb enough to say he expects it unless he knows it's coming, lest he look the fool.

FWIW, One of Frawley's uncles said at lunch last Friday that James is still undecided whether to stay or go.

Same report coming out of Buninyong and Torquay where his folks have a caravan.

you just watch - we're going to end up getting end of first round pick for him.

this is stuffed!

No we will get the next pick after our first pick ie we have pick 2 we will get pick 3 compo, just like Hawthorn with Buddy their first pick was 18 they got 19 as compo. Frawley will be on big dollars at either Hawks/Cats therefore it's simple we get pick 3 the other clubs can whinge all they like.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
