He is just a player, 2nd or 3rd key forward at best

You must have very high standards

Will he McStay or will he McLeave?   Hey, somebody had to say it.

To paraphrase Joe Strummer “should I McStay or should I go”… I only hope he remembers to pack his McCluggage.

+1 to Mitch Lewis instead of McStay.

Sounds like a Scottish Clash cover's band

A back pocket could walk into our forward line this year

Well....that worked out more than ok in the 64 grand final :-)  But times have moved on I confess.

I just don’t think he is any better than what we currently have. If I had to compare  Ben Brown at his best Vs McStay at his best, I’d take BB every day of the week and twice on Sunday

Would be great if we can grab him… will require a departure though.

I have heard the filth are the ones who he would go to if he goes.

3 way deal involving jacko/freo?

McStay is a very handy footballer but he's not the 2nd coming of Tony Lockett....we already have a kid at Casey who will at minimum be the equal of him in the next couple of seasons.

I do like him, works great in that kind of forward line, undecided on whether he'd be a good fit for us. Seems like a Mihocek type which you'd hardly sneeze at but can they be the focal point? It would come down to what happens with our other forwards come season's end I guess.

Upgrade from Mitch Brown no doubt though!

Don't want to freak anyone out, but McStay has about the same numbers as Sam Weideman except with a couple of extra link kicks up the ground.

He'd be an improvement, for sure, but only an incremental one and I don't think recruiting him would make a major difference for us.

That said, if Weideman decides to move on for a fresh start in a trade, and we then get McStay as a free agent, we would effectively be getting a little upgrade while also picking up Weideman's trade value. Ha! Use that to push ourselves up the draft order and we can pick up one of the very promising key forwards in the draft, and wha-bam we've got ourselves a short-term role filled and a long-term prospect in one go.

We have to get him. I have doubts whether TMac will ever come back and we can’t be held hostage to those circumstances.

my opinion on him has definitely changed. We need to add him in. with doubts over MBrown's status this off-season, Weid's lack of progress and potential to request a move if he gets an offer of regular senior football elsewhere, Jacko's lure home and TMac's consistency and form issues in McStay you're getting a forward target who is at least on par with the rest of our options talent wise but in a much healthier age bracket and on between 500-600k a year its about 50-100k more than we're paying tomlinson and he's played more casey footy than dees footy since he came.

Not many alternatives across the competition who are gettable. off the top of my head -one of the giants riccardi/HH/hogan, burgess at the suns who's leading the vfl goalkicking or ratugolea or reid/amartey/mclean at the swans or schache

Schache ?That would be the ultimate  victory of optimism over experience .The rest are ordinary with the exception of Jesse who is head and shoulders above the others .But alas I can only dream of his return.

Schache is less competitive than just about any KPF in the game. Gets out positioned by an empty chip packet blowing across the ground

I like the look of Riccardi from GWS. Think he is ready to step up

Just read on AFL website that McStay has been courted by some clubs and may go Top 30.

He will be a very good CHB type.

Think  Hardeman.

Harry Himmelberg would take in a heartbeat...He is far from ordinary..... super talented player, forward and back.

I love these comments! Every time he is written off he comes back better than ever.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
