I really think this sort of persecution complex does not get us anywhere, but sadly is so prevalent on this site. The trigger for me is the word "Vlad" (referring to the CEO of the AFL), which has all the connotations of racism and anti-elitism.

Face it folks, the MFC has only itself to blame for its incompetence in the last five years. Before that, it was more than competitive.

A Demitriou led board of the AFL has been a the forefront of rescuing the MFC from its own incompetence. We should rejoice we have such professional administrators at the AFL. We would be on our way to NZ without them.

Sadly so many MFC supporters prefer to think of themselves as persecuted, rather than how we can get ourselves out of this mess. I've noticed also, so often those who complain about persecution, are also the ones who are most critical of the AFL Head.

The AFL have been responsible for putting Peter Jackson into the MFC, indirectly recruiting Roos, and supplying the funds to rescue us from oblivion. Admittedly, they also knew without the MFC they would not have a viable competition, but they could have sent us to Hobart and we could not have done a blind thing about it.

Be careful what you wish for.......

Actually, the last time the AFL re-wrote the rules after allowing something like this was when Geelong were looking at putting together a third-party package to offer Ablett on top of his playing wage. The AFL declared that although they had approved the multiple deals Carlton had made in the same manner, from this point forward they were going to ban them. This call was made pretty much for the sole purpose of preventing Geelong from keeping Ablett away from GC because they needed the star power to move up there. This really has nothing to do with us, but is a classic example of the AFL pushing their agenda before any considerations of fairness or an even competition. The same applies to the Franklin move. The AFL need Sydney to be a strong marketable side if they are to maintain their toehold in NSW, therefore they will get more room to bend the rules than other clubs might. Ideally they would have liked him to go to GWS, but anywhere in Sydney is a good result for them.

because our team sucks now - we need experience in the middle now otherwise 2014 could be as poor as 2013

IMO it's pretty simple - recruite some experience and get more competitive with some additional natural development - or continue to rebuild and hope fo 2 - 5 wins in 2014

I actually dont mind this line of thinking. There will always be kids coming along. Its more akin to panicking to think you have to take someone this year. Theres nothing that amazing about 2013. 2014 and 15 and 16 will all deliver potential players. what we need is to seriously bolster our mid stocks NOW. They dont need to be necessarily abetted by an A grade kid who might make it one day . 2-3 decent B graders will have far more effect right now. A kid who might be brilliant in 3 years time doesnt really add much to todays equation. We arent likely to contend September action for a few years yet. We have time to still recruit over the coming years.

Kids wont advance us, mature bodies will.Kids are an icing for a cake we dont have. Lets get a cake first

dees very quiet on recruitment. seems not many clubs interested in pick 2, I reckon improvement next year will come from current list and roos input...thoughts???

Possibly buy my mail was that two clubs were very interested although offers haven't been that great thus far.

The content on this thread is hilarious - first of all people expecting trades to be done in the first two days of a long and drawn out period of negotiation - people taking every statement from club, player or agent as gospel (Shuey comes to mind) and definitive evidence that they are not for sale or their club wont for the right deal trade them.

As Demon2014 put it you start with an ridiculous offer and work down to ground that both parties agree on. Maybe Tom Rockliff/Rory Sloane/Luke Shuey were those ridiculous initial offers but anything less for mine we should just go to the draft. The player we pick up will be only a few years younger than the average of our list. It would be ok.

We wont probably hear much for a while. Unless an obvious and unopposed deal gets pushed through to get it out of the way.

I think we will end up because of where we are at paying overs for a midfield star and wed be better off drafting a few for mine and filling up with second tiers for low trades.

Not a lot of trading being done so far, everyone is taking a cautious approach. I would not expect any club to put their best offer to MFC for the 2nd pick until later on in the piece, and if they dont do better we will get the 2nd draft pick. there could be a lot of players who are being Hawked around at the moment for a trade being delisted in the end to make room for new blood. I am sure our trading team will find an odd diamond or two in the rough by the end.

I have said all along that I thought we had our best chance with adelaide. Yes we would need more than Vince, but MFC did say intially they would swap for a player or group of players. I wonder if that means Vince, McKernan etc from the Crows?

Show us a quote, as all I've seen or read of Chip wanting to leave are from hysterical posters here. Have been to training a lot this year and watched him, seen him at numerous Casey games supporting his mates, have seen nothing to suggest he wants to leave.

probably, but there's a hell of a lot more work rate than there is currently with the addition of savage, sewell, another jones who looks as tenacious as his brother, and class and application in hogan.
