If we get beaten by PA in the first round, at the MCG and Port are very average. If we get beaten our confidence will be lower than shark shyte like we were against BL last year in first round. IMO if we lose our season will be pretty much the same as last year, bloody disaster. In my opinion it will be good bye Mark Neeld if we don't show G & D, unlike the insipid performances last year.

Lol stop ruining my buzz with your doom and gloom, I'm still high and giddy at the prospect of Essendianabol getting the arse :)

Jack viney vs Oliver wines! pretty keen to see that match up to be honest, then a ten goal win to us would also be pretty nice :) can't see us losing to port at the G unless something goes horribly wrong.

Opened this thread hoping to find some serious footy discussion. Still the silly season it seems.

Dead right. The serious stuff starts in a few weeks' time.

I think we should be reflecting on round 2 myself. The game against Essendon will be important for both sides and should attract a mammoth crowd give it will be their first game in Melbourne.

And if they lose to us their fans are likely to be so angry that they'll probably revert to Roman times and the team will get stoned or something like that.

I cannot beleive that you have posted such a negative post at the onset of the season, especially one giving your opinion that it will be the end of Mark Neeld. Obviously you have not bothered to read any of the training reports or given any thought to the fact that there is a completley new team running out onto the "G"

It's undoubtedly a very important game. Clearly a loss would be extremely bad. Equally, an emphatic victory could be just the shot in the arm (Essendon style circa 2011 rounds 1-8) that this list needs.

What a terribly negative opening post.

We will smash port, then go on to smash injectiondon, sneak past meth coke and set ourselves up for a great season.

'The times they are a changing" Unfortunately Ron Burgondy never heard that song.

In my view a win in the 1st round against Port Adelaide is crucial.

How many years since we won our 1st game?

Every time I read someone proposing we will allow Clark or Trengove to play into form or that we need to "give XXX some games" I worry that we wont be putting our absolute best team out there for this game. Looking at round 2 or assuming this is a gimmee is scary.

I think it is a legitimate thread.

oh it can happen. We beat one established side last year. just one. remember where we are at. Port will be thinking the very same thing about us, and I am not pencilling this as a win for us. They have a superior midfield to us at this present time.

Season over if we lose.

Unlike others I see this as a toss of the coin match. They've beaten us the last 2 times.

Are you for real? What a silly statement. I don't understand why you would say something as inane as that?

Slightly off topic, but still relating to the first round, would anyone know what has occurred on the Easter break in the past re training times.

The reason I am asking is that I am thinking of bringing my young son down for this game and want him to be able to take him along to training so he can actually get a chance to meet some of his favourite players, but I need to book the flight soon as we are using points - on the rare occasions that they come up this way (Sydney) there are no real meet and greet opportunities, so a pre-game training session in Melbourne would be perfect.

I did contact the club and they were unable to give me anything concrete, just that it could be either the 28th (Thursday - no good because can't afford that much accommodation) or the 30th (Saturday which would be perfect). So, if anyone here can help, great... if not, I guess we take our chances on it being the Saturday.

It was season over last year when we dropped a winnable game to Brisbane in round 1.

If we can't beat Port at the G, who can we beat this year?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
