Rumour is doing the rounds he has met with Melbourne for some testing...

Previously started his career at the Western Bulldogs, and has played a large chunk of games at St Kilda, under Lyon. Went early in the draft at the Bulldogs.

Such a strange player, looks good one week, will play ok for the next two, then get dropped.

I really do not know what to make of him, not sure I'd want him, but he would not be the worst on our list getting a game.

I really don't like him as a player. From what i see, i think he is just a spud, turns it over all the time and i think he is just a nothing player. no for me

Still has his best football in front if him! Would add to our midfield run and carry.

Farren Ray makes Cale look big boned and Jack Watts a terrier.

Deck chairs shifting...

What is going on?? Roden one day Ray the other. another extreme NQR

DO OUR FOOTY DEPT EXPECT TO BUILD OUR NEXT SUCCESFUL PERIOD ON GUYS LIKE THIS??

I am bewildered!

A hardened body? Now I've heard everything.

He is a solid 83 kg, has a good tank and will run and carry. He is not a superstar but will only add to our side.

They are rumours Picket!

i.e. not real, speculations...

Best save your righteous bewilderment for when the deals are actually done.

I'm pretty open-minded when it comes to Melbourne's free agent targets, but I can only assume this is some horrendous joke. Soft, not good enough, just a shocking idea.

The wife's a St. Kilda fan so I've seen a fair bit of him over the last few seasons and I reckon he'd be a very handy player.

No world beater, but a very solid midfielder/HBF.

After Lenny Hayes and Brendon Goddard Ray was the next player who nearly got the Saints over the line in the 2010 drawn Grand Final with a great shut down game on Dane Swan after half time when Clinton Jones had no impact on him in the first half.

Farren Ray in the team would put the heat on someone like a Jordie McKenzie to lift his game to stand in the 22 IMO. I'd be happy to secure him for the right price. 3rd round draft pick at the most.

So you leap from an internet rumour to an MFC footy department decision?

I love and hate this time of year, both at the same time.

I'm sorry, what?

I'm assuming very liberal use of 'someone like'...

Just use the ignore function.

And I don't mean in your brain, I mean the software the forum runs on has an 'ignore function'...

He doesn't offer much more than channelling 'Henny Penny'...

At least at 26 Ray has a few years of footy ahead of him unlike Rodan, Lynch, Byrnes etc. But the quick fix approach we seem to be adopting is concerning.

I don't think we're adopting anything like quick fix "Tony", we haven't signed any or these players. It's all rumour.

I'd prefer to have champion players from other clubs lining up to join us, but I'm of the opinion that we don't appeal as a club to many players, let alone champions. Money (in copious amounts)would seem the only way to attract one or two of these. We need fixing, there is no doubt about that. Taking 'good, ordinary players' might be looked at as a 'quick fix', but there is little wrong with that. Being more competitive, winning more games, giving supporters some hope rather than the gloom and doom we currently experience week in and week out, would have to be better. It's hard work following Melbourne at the moment. I'm prepared to support anything the club tries to improve our stocks.

Ive heard this rumour - someone claims to have seen him there firstly meeting with us and then having some sort of testing via trade radio and facebook pages (which are often just total bulldust)

I dont really have an opinion on this one - he has speed and good disposal so they would be pluses. But he comes across as a little bit of a Jack Watts type to me.

Except we have no confirmation on any of these players yet, so the notion of a quick fix is baseless.

WJ posted something regarding an MFC function that he attended recently. That at least gives some concept that that the club is not taking scattergun approach and has something in mind here.

Edit: Beated to the punch by Rjay! :)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
