Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Phil Scully offered GWS gig in November 2010!

Nah i want a gun player myself. This whole $cully saga was a waste of time. No wonder Vlad refused to mention the word Tanking. He knew what was unfolding.

Yeah, but the chances of that happening with picks around the early-late teens is very slim. Thank christ character never came into the calculation of compensation, as we would've been lucky to get a pick within the top 100.

Exactly why our compensation picks are nowhere near enough for what we went through. We should have GW$'s first pick.

No surprise here except for the fact that the GWS offer was made in November 2010 and not October 2010 which was when the AFL's window allowing contact with uncontracted players was still open. The AFL has already connected Phil Scully's employment at GWS with son Tom's playing contract.

The fact that the offer was made outside the allowable window suggests to me that GWS breached the AFL's rules. Contact could be made in October - this offer was made in November.

The AFL claims that integrity plays an important role in how it and it's member clubs operate. It should at least investigate this latest revelation and, if GWS breached its rules, apply appropriate sanctions.

In 2002, the AFL investigated Carlton for committing salary cap breaches on the eve of the national draft and imposed heavy sanctions which included removal of the club's high draft picks. Earlier, in the wake of the breach of salary cap rules by Melbourne, the AFL awarded Fremantle an early first round selection supposedly to compensate the Dockers for losing Jeff White.

I think an appropriate sanction here would be to strip GWS of one of its top three draft picks and award it to Melbourne to compensate it for the obvious subterfuge and lies that went on in the 12 months after the GWS approach was first made to the Scully camp.

Of course it's not likely to happen because, as I've indicated many times, the AFL is heavily conflicted on this issue.

There is absolutely no moral integrity in what occurred in anything that occurred.

No revelation would surprise me except that his mum hasn't signed on as well.

MFC is the winner out of this. Integrity intact, acted in good faith, supported its player, offered a sensible reasonable contract for what he deserved.

It's a sad, pathetic sordid tale.

I completely agree with this, however as you said, the AFL is majorly conflicted. There is no way they would take away a top 3 pick from a franchise they are trying to get off the ground. Unfortunate but true, it seems as though GWS can get away with almost anything.

It's on in earnest now. November is outside the October window if as acknowledged the father was part of the deal all along. Possible corruption at the highest level of the AFL could be very nasty for its leaders. The official digging has now begun.

A for the two concession draft picks what an insult and these must surely be reviewed.

Wasn't it just a few days ago that $cully "admitted turmoil within the Melbourne camp played a role in his decision to leave the Demons"?

But the turmoil happened in July/August 2011 which was long after the GWS approaches were made.

Does $cully have a crystal ball?

Tom was in China for at least part of October - maybe that's the real reason he returned?

Also, presumably this goes (much) further, as surely Tom's agent would have been involved in the whole deceit.

The whole episode is about as bad and as tacky as it gets. All that's missing is brown paper bags stuffed full of money.

Don't really see how this is irrefutable proof of Scully having agreed to anything as early as Nov 2010

Really? It's the smoking gun:

"This position is to commence from 1 November 2011 and will cease 31 October 2017. We look forward to you becoming part of the club."

Why would they have offered that to Tom's father, if it wasn't as a sweetner for the deal with Tom himself?

Also, be interested to know how many other AFL scouts are on $100K+ a year!

I was prepared to believe young TS all through last season

However the events of the last couple of months seem to suggest to me that the Scully family had a plan from draft day 2009.

He would go to the highest bidder at the end of 2011.

That just happened to be GWS.

If GWS had not existed then it would have been whoever had the biggest cheque book.

The sad part for the MFC is we got dudded and wasted a no.1 pick.

There is no other way to describe it.

I feel wounded, my faith in my fellow humans has been shaken.

He's more and more looking like a kid following his unscrupulous father.

I wonder when he will wake up one day and realise his life has been railroaded by Gubby Allan and the personal desires and ambition of his father.

I pity the kid more and more...

The $cully camp put off contract negotiations with Melbourne in August 2010, so it is reasonable to assume - in fact you would be naive to assume otherwise - that GWS approached $cully's people before then.

Or, to look at it from another perspective, $cully was considering leaving Melbourne a bare 10 months after joining the club at the end of 2009.

$cully's entertainment of a GWS offer last August (with the Fill $cully sweetener tossed in last November) lessens the impact of any talk about disenchantment with Melbourne over the China trip post-season 2010, club turmoil in 2011, or any other of the spurious reasons that supposedly contributed to his decision to defect to GWS, which are essentially just garnish to excuse his treason.

Looks like some disgruntled ex-(or current) GWS staff are leaking so I wouldn't be surprised if irrefutable evidence of $kulduggery emerges. (Yes, I agree it looks clear already, but there is nothing like documentary evidence.)

What really riles me and would make me engage in some healthy cathartic booing is $cully's recent 'courageous' and chaos at Melbourne statements. What a nerve.

.......................................... The blatant and apparent contempt he had for my club is downright insulting. Seriously, who the f%$k does he think he is? It just disgusts me. ......................

What DD said.

This is the first time I've been moved to utter a word on here about this whole saga, but I now feel compelled to state my views. The contempt that $cully showed towards my / our club, and his total lack of respect for the many good people who unflinchingly supported him, shows just what a lowlight of an individual he really is. We are well rid of him ......... such an individual could never, ever be a team player.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
