An intense high pressure cracking game !!! The toiges did us for pressure and intensity early and had our measure. But .... along came Max ... big bad Max the mountain!!! You will NEVER see a better performance in the ruck - EVER !!!! A number of other top performances but I must single out Petty. He played more like a forward than any other forward ( bar Fitta ) than we have played this year. A very tough game - fortunate to have Norf next week. There is a feeling in the Bitter nethers that says, " this is our year" ! GO DEES !!!!!37 points

I thought Nibbler was good today with 22 touches and six tackles. He made some mistakes but so does every player. He's this year's whipping boy though and any little thing he does wrong gets called out by some posters.29 points

McVee is the find of the year for the Dees. Sublime skills and composure with the ball. A couple of those kicks in the last five minutes we’re clutch.28 points

Can the 'Petty's not a forward' crew please stand up, please stand up, please stand up. And then sit down, and shut the [censored] up!25 points

There’s no way of saying this without sounding like an absolute smart****, but I don’t care. I said in 2019 that Harry Petty would be our next best KPF. Never wavered (just kept quieter when the selectors looked like they might lose their nerve, so as not to be a repetitive bore), and today is why. In that assessment, I said his move forward from CHB would be like that of David Neitz. Too good a contested grab, too good at reading the play and too much a competitive beast who feeds on small wins to leave down back. And kicks STRAIGHT. No question he’s been great in the backline, but the boy was always gonna be a forward. Well done Petts, (I told you so, hehehe).24 points

Thanks to Richmond and the MFC for a seriously entertaining match. Was introducing the sport to my Albanian hosts and not embarrassed at all. They loved it. Plus Yze! We have at least six new fans - but I think I can convert the whole village.22 points

I’m starting to believe. That last quarter was very reminiscent of late ‘21. Fitter, better, for longer. Sound familiar?22 points

Here in Finland this week, (Kenya was last week) playing K2K with a new Sherrin and loving the game. Both going mental in the last quarter. We won in the wet and used the ball well, mark of a side with excellent skills, primed for September. Also let me get this in here, our defence is Premiership standard, put under mad pressure today, but I thought Richmond got lucky bounces for a few and didn't see any major breakdown of structure. Salem/Rivers/Lever/McVee(mancrush) rebounding is so good. Great link play by Langdon and Hunter clearly putting his body on line with contact today. Also what ever was wrong with May last week clearly addressed. Shout to the umps for paying HTB in the last. Obvious Richmond tactic to slow the game up and with a parochial crowd they didn't melt and swallow the whistle. Speaking of which, mad love for Melks effort, but he can do 200 penalty push ups for the stupid 50s he gives away each week, just because he's in the fwd line is not good enough. Richmond fans whining that Taranto>Viney... Hahhahah only thing I noticed was Taranto sooking. We are running our second string midfield and it is holding up, Gus and my personal jesus (Viney) holding up without Oliver and Trac. Gawn has had 3 games this year where he has been phenomenal and clearly the games best ruck. I feel like those 3 games have put him back in AA frame, they are that good. I was for delisting Smith and Melksham, clearly I was wrong, while Melks has had his chances over the years, he has changed his attitude somehow and is getting to the ball 1st allowing himself a chance to score. Smith I am so happy for, gives every contest his all and did great work on Dusty, I love these redemption stories, he looked so nearly and now he looks just looks dangerous. Feeling smug about Petty, but the most 21 thing about the fwd line for me was the goal assists are back, am sure there are more lay-offs to a better position. Makes me feel the team is in the best headspace. (kudos to Brown last week leading the way). And seriously ANB was great today, serious fwd half tackle pressure, did alot of work under heavy pressure, the turnovers only tell the story to the simple minds. Our 4th quarter fitness is still there, our whole team provided huge pressure on the Richmond ball carrier, magnificent premiership standard effort. Jordan and Harmes 21 and 22, felt Dunstan was stiff not getting a run today has done the work. Woey stays I like his run.21 points

I was wrong. Richmond really brought the heat and got out to 20pts three times. But we withstood and Max drove us home. That was a truly great win in an epic contest.20 points

In the pre game thread I hoped Petty would kick 2 goals and take 4 contested marks. Will have to watch the replay to assess whether he met expectations.19 points

Can I just say wowza on this Petty performance! That was some kind of performance. Some of his contested marking was absolutely nuts and then his ability to provide pressure when the ball hits the ground is first class. I mean realistically take your pick between Petty and JVR Have we potentially just saved huge cap space in going out and buying a marquee forward?? I think so now!18 points

It can't be understated how impressive Jake Melksham has been in the absence of Bayley Fritsch. He's gone from a surefire delist at seasons end to warranting another contract for 2024.18 points

Max Gawn is the demon helmsman. Best performance by a ruckman this season.18 points

No idea why people don't love Browny. Great person and champion footy player, in his Twilight years but shouldn't have his own teams fans wishing him into retirement17 points

Holy [censored] that was one exciting game to watch! We just griiiiiiinnnnd them away! Petty and JVR were [censored] unreal. Maxy on that performance alone should be a 7 time All Australian. That was [censored] nuts Give Melksham another contract. He's best 22 for the rest of the year. Go you [censored] dees!17 points

McVee looked completely out of his depth in the first half. He was fumbly, losing his feet in contest and seemed to just lose his composure. His ability to fight back in the 2nd half and change his game around was very impressive. Won some huge one on one contests and was able to compose himself much better and compose himself a lot better.14 points

Watch the” Petty can’t play forward” posters jump on the bandwagon now. Max was sensational again and Viney is our bull. Maybe Binman is right too with the loading, as we certainly ran away from them in the last. Hopefully we can now run over teams, right through to the flag.14 points

We are timing our run to the flag perfectly. Can't expect perfection, but the momentum is real14 points

This is downright pathetic by the umpires. He's one of the best players in the game and time and tuime again Soldo would charge straight at Max with no eyes for theball. The goal he got was a free to Max. In the centre Max was dragged to the ground with the ump looking straight at it but no free. Happened everywhere. There needs to be a major complaint laid. Teams cant handle Max If Dusty gotthat treatment he would get 40 frees a game.13 points

Not only did Petty grab a bag he blanketed Bolta who has been their leading interceptor. Viney since Oliver went down has been supreme Kudos to the coaching staff that changed their offensive attack 3/4 weeks ago We are letting more scores through but have multiple avenues to goal Last week it was the smalls this week it was the Talls. We are very hard to match up on and have great flexibility. Gee I like Pickett when he goes in the middle. Just wish he would go their mid quarter rather than just at the start13 points

Never saw Petty kicking 6, and Maxy what an effort. Picked the boys up and carried them in the second half. Put the big fella on ice for a week, no need to fly him to tassie and play spuds. Grundy can take the load for a week13 points

I don’t think it should be forgotten how good the Tiges were today, we needed our absolute best today12 points

We didn’t start all that great, and it’s probably not ideal that we leaked nearly 100 points… BUT We were challenged by a team fighting for finals/with momentum and we steered the ship. No easy games from here. Importantly, we found our way to goals and it was exhilarating at times. Petty and Melksham were simply awesome. Even more importantly, very quietly, can you feel us cranking up??! CAN YOU!!??? Go Dees 🔥12 points

Post game, I got drenched walking to Flinders Street Station, then we had a protestor on the line, holding up the train (full of steaming wet supporters from both teams) to Sunbury, into the car and now home in central Victoria. Under other circumstances I would be wet, annoyed, grumpy and ready to rant - but not tonight. Pumped!! That was a great win. In the first half, to be honest it felt like a casual boring game without much oomph. The Tiges were killing us at ground level and our half back line were getting annihilated by Richmond's small runners. Didn't look like a Dees game at all with lots of free ball movement and few tight, contested passages of play. Taranto, Martin and Prestia were running amok seemingly with little effective response from us. Enter one M Gawn. To see him dominate like that in a game with so much on the line will be a lasting memory in my footy-loving life. Leadership, skill, influence, and left nothing to chance. Got to contest after contest and made us win. To see our forward line mark and kick like that was so, so satisfying. Petty, JVR and Melksham were brilliant, but so were a lot of the smalls. An incredible team effort, and the tigers had no answer. Jack Viney should canter across the line in our B&F - he is everything we want, and everything I go to the footy to enjoy. Got crunched a few times heavily, and simply got up, shook it off and ran to the next contest. And in the last 5 minutes he was still sprinting to the next contest. Not sure how it came across on TV, but Lever was instrumental in our backline tonight. Genuine leadership. And JVR is my new favourite player. He just chucks himself at it - marking contest, ground ball, ruck play - he just launches and takes no prisoners. Great win, great day, I'll go and get dry now. Go Dees!11 points

I reckon the Tigers played out of their skins today. Martin was the best he’s looked for years. Shai is a gun and his speed from contest killed us. I’d be ok with that I saw from them today as a supporter. They tried to win. I like that attitude.11 points

Carlton are on a winning streak with the largest injury list in the comp atm and plenty of those injuries are to their most important players. Their form couldn't be any more impressive.11 points

For those of us that can, it is our duty to rock up to the G and loudly support our boys. We cannot allow Richmond to have the crowd become their ‘19th man’ on the ground.11 points

The Demons face a fired up Richmond Tigers who are playing for a position in the Top 8 whilst we have another opportunity to consolidate our own position by retaining our 2 game buffer within the Top 4 and as a result of some favourable outcomes in other matches there is the possibility of us sneaking into third place on the ladder. Carpe Diem!10 points
