Bloke held onto an 18 year old brad green while dean wallis punched him in the throat during the first quarter of the 2000 grand final. What else you need to know?16 points

Lost all respect for him after he had a crack at David Schwartz about the 2000 GF14 points

Missed the Dees at the airport this morning but Bevo & Matt Spangher will definitely be part of the Bulldogs coaching department for their match against the Giants. This is Andy from Demonland News. Back to you Sandra in the studio.10 points

Will be happy to see Carlton and Essendon get beaten. The sooner they and their manky fan bases know they are out of finals contention the better for everyone else.9 points

This gets spoken about a lot. The vast majority of people I have spoken to will stick with their original team, but buy memberships and support the Tas team against any opposition apart from their team. I am in this boat as well, after so many years supporting the Demons it would be impossible to just drop that and change teams, even though I could see the home ground from my house. I suspect the amount of members will come as a surprise, people will jump on board regardless if Tassie are their no. 1 team or not. I have been loving @Ouch!'s content in this thread, his sentiments are very similar to mine and most of the people I know. Couple of points regarding the go home factor and the weather. Hobart isn't the backwater it once was and is still perceived to be by many. The go home factor will be there but no more than anywhere else, there is plenty on offer for people of any age, and Melbourne is an hour away if you want to go and visit family. Not every AFL draftee is from the big cities, and to brush off Hobart as a terrible destination for a young bloke is outdated and misguidedly superior. Yes, it won't be for everyone, but neither is Melbourne, or Sydney. I think the lifestyle in Hobart will suit plenty enough people to make the go home factor a non-issue. Hobart weather is that similar to Melbourne it's not funny, just slightly cooler. We get a few extreme cold nights/mornings but it's not like it's a different planet. if it was that much of a concern then players would be leaving the Melbourne clubs in droves to go to GC, GWS etc etc. Grassroots footy in Tas has been dying for a long time, I hope this announcement can turn things around before we are no longer an AFL state but a soccer/basketball state instead.9 points

I have it on good authority he likes apricot slices. When I was in Adelaide for Gather Round, I had coffee with one of the player's mums, and she brought along with her a lemon slice for her son and an apricot slice for Kade at the open training session. When he came down to say thank you, he had a grin the width of the Grand Canyon, and when asked "have you eaten it already?" his response was "[censored] yeah, that was the best!" So maybe the club can incorporate apricot slices somewhere in Chin's contract it'll convince him to stay. Just a thought.8 points

I'm hoping he stays on at Richmond and drives them further down the Clarkson-Hawthorn road with a failed attempt at topping up. As has been pointed out Taranto and Hopper is looking like Mitchell and O'Meara already. No draft picks for 2 years and then Tasmania coming in. I don't like him but as I've posted before, the smart move by the AFL would be to get him up to GC. He could make a difference there.8 points

Salem comes back in after a Casey hit out. He'll kill it at Casey anyway. He's class and that's exactly what we need coming out of defence. I'd be shocked if the club wasn't doing everything it could to make sure Salem is fit and ready for the back half of the season, much like Viney in 2018. I stand by the article that will be written a few days after we win the flag about the mountain of work done to have a fit Salem. On song he's in our top 5 most important players and particularly against Collingwood we need him.8 points

No worries @Lucifers Hero . Happy to share this mission critical responsibility with you. It was funny, when you gazumped me a few years ago I was a bit miffed - a rolled-up ball of resentment for years. My psychotherapist recommended I quit D’Land. Did that at 7pm one night. Nothing changed. So I rejoined at 7:05pm. I remember one weekend – quite a few years ago, when a poster presumptuously posted their three-word player analysis and ‘Land went into a meltdown because @joeboy's turf was being trampled on. I heard NBN Co called @Demonland and issued a cease and desist notice. Anyway, happy to share this onerous responsibility – especially when we play GCS and GWS. They are short weeks! As you know, it’s quite time-consuming aggregating the big-game data, and I’ll need a couple of dayz off work to do the Flogmantle game. Enjoy Q'land my friend. I've heard they're getting colour tv soon. JPM.8 points

Then let's move back to what we had at Junction Oval! I cannot understand those who are satisfied with a public oval for training, a gym shared with multiple other sporting clubs, shared rehab rooms, no lap pool, pokey admin offices a km away, and the list goes on and on... Whilst we have Casey facilities available that are quite good, we should also have a committed home base like every other AFL club I'm amazed with our recent success given the hotch-potch facilities we have. I reckon better facilities helps players get better and contributes towards a culture of elite performance7 points

The misuse of this word, especially when describing footy players, is so irritating. I’m assuming they mean “lackadaisical”?6 points

Wow, looking at this picture and reading the words I can hear Don Adam's funny voice. One of the funniest scenes from that show was when 99s mother came to live with them. She witnessed Max fighting with several enemy agents. She looked at 99 and said she had no idea the greeting card business was so tough.6 points

McVee has struggled the last two weeks. Had three kicked on him in 5 minutes against Richmond. As soon as Salem is fit, he comes straight in for McVee IMV. As for moving to QLD, are we serious here? There's about 39 things on every weekend in Melbourne. In QLD you sit on a beach and then get cycloned. I've got a mate that moved up there too. An absolute nuffy, love him, but he likes the very slow life. It'll get warmer in Melbourne (climate) and extreme coldness as well (climate). Whereas, QLD'll just burn. We're in a very privileged position those of us living in Melbourne.6 points

Been in his role since 2010 and in that time Richmond have won 3 Premierships. I think the line of questioning by the reporter was disrespectful, and although I concede that Hardwick can be touchy, give the man some respect.6 points

Actually playing Gawn who was a broken man was a disaster. JVR was minutes away from playing ahead of Gawn in the elimination final. We never ever should have been in a position where our best players were playing with one functioning limb when we were 10-0 to start the season. We have done a much better job managing our players so far this season. Gawn missing a month could well be a blessing in disguise come September. Likewise getting a really fit and firing Salem in August could be a game changer.6 points

If you thought the Casey Demons were tested last week when they took on the then undefeated Box Hill Hawks at Wonthaggi, then what about the test they face this week? The Gold Coast Suns are undefeated on top of the ladder and last week crushed Richmond VFL by 63 points at Punt Road - just one week after the Tigers beat the Demons by 2 goals at their Casey Fields fortress. Saturday’s game at Carrara between the VFL’s top two teams is a curtain raiser for the big AFL clash and will present Casey with its biggest challenge since last year’s grand final.5 points

Take a look at Hardwick’s reaction to speculation his time with the Tiges is done: no eye contact with his questioner, head weaving side to side like a boxer on the ropes, sour comments about ‘say that to my face’. It’s ever so with him after a defeat. Remember his “we know what it takes to beat Melbourne” a couple of weeks ago. (Sadly no journo responded “then how come you’ve lost the last three on the trot?) For a proclaimed hard man he’s very prone to sook. Other’s thoughts?5 points

Carlton need a coach. Voss might have been a great player but he is not a coach.5 points

Chol kicked 44 goals last year. More than Kozzy, Riewoldt, Breust and Mihocek and more than any Melbourne player other than Fritsch.5 points

I can't agree about Bowey. His disposal is unarguably elite for his position. not based on opinion, based on statistical evidence. For some reason many posters seem to think their own eye and faulty recollection are a more accurate measure, it's hard to argue when facts don't come into it and people just think they are right regardless. The loopy kicks you are talking about, from my viewing (warning, opinion to follow...) seem to happen when the back half is full of players and there is no option of punching a flat pass, you have to go either over or under. If you look at any pressured back half play from pretty much any player, you will see some instances where they pass the ball to someone else and put them under pressure. It is just the nature of trying to exit a congested area.5 points

Salem will.need as many games in the magoos as it takes...2..3..4.. 🤷 Hell need to hit the ground running, and running hard as it's quite possible by then our season will be a constant battle...as it is for all finals aspirants. He cant just come in a get fit... I look forward to his return.5 points

Look I've got respect for the guy, I did think he was an exceptional player. Not always clean but a big part of both flags he played in. He's been a fantastic coach as well and like Goody was able to take on feedback at a time when he probably believed in his own methods but was able to do the self analysis and grow. What is starting to grate is the macho bravado and smug attitude in interviews and pressers that has crept in. He was always a smartalec in pressers but he's almost starting to come across as a bit bitter lately. The incident with Schwarz a few years back wasn't all that impressive. It sounded like pub talk and we all remember what he did that day. Would have been best left unsaid, he doesn't have to knee-jerk at every tough question or comment.5 points

I don't buy issues with player retainment being an inevitability. Build a great club - good coaches, players, staff, facilities, supporters, community engagement - and most players will be keen to stay for the enjoyable environment, positive culture and prospect of success. If perennial warm weather and density of night clubs is a player's highest priority, well, perhaps they are not the type of player that makes great clubs.4 points

The thread is really about his character not his record. His continual references to "Mrs. Hardwick's advice" looked pretty hollow when they split up.4 points

totally irrelevant comment. His team are past their peak by a few years. This is a natural bottoming out after a very successful period. His private life has nothing to do with it.4 points

Utmost admiration for the guy. Bloke from the Yarra Valley becomes one of the greatest coaches of the modern era. That's a remarkable achievement. The ridiculous parochialisation of our game is so juvenile.4 points

A spark of optimism but they aren't too keen on selections. Witts playing his 150th in this game has me feeling more optimistic because I know how revered he is within the four walls. The boys got up for Swallow's 200th against Geelong earlier this year. Can lightning strike twice? No Weller :( surprised Berry got a gig. Dew really giving everyone a chance this year Is there a more inexperienced forward line in the comp? Are you suggesting that we will be missing scoring machines Holman and Ainsworth - 2 goals combined per game? Well, we’ve replaced them with Berry and Flanders. Not sure they goal power potency is any higher, but I’m hoping. Berry in particular is fighting for a spot. This is his chance. This could get ugly. christ Sadly gone from a slight chance to no chance. Smacks of resting guys to focus on the next 4 games. Not sure I like the concept. Belay that. I’m sure I don’t like it Berry brings the pressure like Holman but that's it. His disposal is terrible. Not optimistic about him. May actually played like a [censored] most weeks so far. That only means he will bring his best against us. Berry is nothing special in vfl and the vfl opposition has been woeful. Still not seeing anything to get excited about with Flanders but hey here's their chance to shine, hopefully they do well. My Favourite: Close to an all time favourite; it had me roaring with laughter: As far as Chol is concerned has been asleep longer than Rip Van Winkle and doubt May and Lever let him wake up this week. Dees by 4 goals!!4 points

The trouble is, they have been known to suddenly cash in all their unused performance in a single game, like an elastic band snapping back. Suddenly they've got five contested marks and seven shots on goal etc etc. Discount brand of Jake Stringer's career.4 points

Really enjoyed that interview @Demonland - refreshingly honest fella Maysie, genuinely feel like he means everything he says. Particularly enjoyed hearing about how they lead/instruct in the backline, didn’t realise that was the approach, it appears much more chaotic to the naked eye.4 points

If we lose to Collingwood, it won't be because we are distracted by a jumper we wore 2 weeks prior FFS. We play Carlton after Freo then Pies. Losing to the Pies will come down to our ability to shut down their quick ball movement, it will have absolutely nothing to do with the jumper we wore in round 10 and 11. What a ridiculous notion!4 points
