  1. “He has that awareness that we’ve seen over the years from the (Scott) Pendlebury-types,” Richardson said. “He never wastes the footy, he doesn’t look brilliant with ball in hand technically, but it always works. “If I can give you a quick story that perhaps summarises what he’s like. “When (Max) Gawn went out of the team towards the back end of last year, ‘Jacko’ came in as the main ruck, did his hammy early in the game … it ended up being a pretty significant injury. “He played the whole game out and was just outstanding. In fact, he got the Rising Star nomination on the back of it. So that’s what he’s like. “He’s an ultimate team player. He’ll never get really big numbers because as opposed to pealing off to receive, he’s more likely to go and block or do something that would be for the benefit of others. “He’s a special player. He loves the contest, he’s clean in contest and he executes in contest. “We like the way he’s tracking.”

  3. Luke Jackson is starting to look like the football unicorn. That moment late in the game where we had two ruckmen combining for a running play on the wing/half-forward flank (Demonland's current highlight video) gave me a good laugh but it was also the moment I finally digested the idea that we are legitimate premiership contenders. When people talk about great teams they always talk on the two levels - on the one hand praising the completeness and work ethic and depth, on the other hand describing things about that team which were genuinely outstanding and unmatchable. Richo describes Jackson in both those ways and right now it also applies to the club as a whole.

  6. I can still remember the commentary on here in October/November 2019. NOBODY wanted to draft this guy. I struggle to remember even one poster who did. It seemed like a ridiculous call to take him. We had a prime Max Gawn who'd just got his third AA guernsey, Preuss was only one year into a lucrative four year deal, and this Jackson kid would take five years to come good if he was going to come good at all. Then we had the potential go home factor as the cherry on top. Fast forward not even two years and he's already a crucial part of our premiership tilt. I'm sure not even JT could have predicted he'd be this good, but he deserves enormous credit for making such a ballsy call. He was right and we were all wrong, again.

  7. I see some Koutoufides, some Schwarz some Naitanui. And if you can think of 3 harder names to spell in a comparison, go for it.🙂

  9. An amzing aspect of Jackson's arrival that's possibly flown under the radar is his impact on Gawn's game. Max is not such an old dog that he doesn't learn from the prodigy, and in the last year or two has massively developed his ground game, agility and ground ball efforts... so Jackson has indeed shifted the narrative of what a ruck could/should do.

  11. Just thinking about the first final we played in 2018 on a Friday night and how good it was to heading into work on the train that morning scarf on , beers and burgers post work and then walking down to the capacity filled MCG . The roar from Hannans and chunks goals in the last quarter, echos of “ weid “reverberating across the ground every time he clunked a big mark. Outnumbering cats supporters 2:1 and the collective of the supporters willing the team on to victory , and the joy of walking out of the G with dees fans everywhere just so thrilled we were back in September action. Post match beers with my brother and sister and then home on the train with a big smile on my face watching highlights on my phone . Then watching the replay into the early hours of the morning at home whilst enjoying a nice single malt (and trying not to wake up the wife and kids with my celebrations!) Don’t get me wrong I’m thrilled the team is in its best position in my lifetime to challenge for the ultimate over the next month , it’s just going to be a very different and quite surreal situation this time round. Go you mighty Demons !!!

  12. If someone knows anyone that is CoVID positive have them take a poo in a box and ship it down to my sister in Geelong. She’ll flush it for the Demons. Result = Covid in the sewerage system, Kardinia off the table for finals, neutral footy fans happy. Honestly, the club should make me a consultant.

  14. I think what transfers well is the philosophy behind playing. In basketball you are a bit less "see ball get ball" and are thinking about the play to create an open shot ie: putting on the block and creating space for the team mate to gather the ball. I think its something Dogga does particularly well when in the middle

  15. He also has a calmness about him that belies his age. He is so composed in traffic, it's as if he doesn't believe there's any possibility someone could tackle him.

  16. Personally I reckon Rivers is right up there with him, and after a few more seasons withMAY and Lever will be THE defender in the AFL.

  19. Scenario 1 – Melbourne (1) v Port Adelaide (4) Melbourne will host Port Adelaide in a home final if: Melbourne defeats Geelong AND the Western Bulldogs defeat Port Adelaide. Scenario 2 – Melbourne (1) v Brisbane (4) Melbourne will host Brisbane in a home final if: Melbourne defeats Geelong AND Port Adelaide defeats the Western Bulldogs AND Brisbane defeats West Coast and make up 1.8 percent on the Dogs (approximately a 30-point differential eg. If the Dogs lose by 10 points, the Lions will need to win by 20 points). Scenario 3 – Melbourne (1) v Western Bulldogs (4) Melbourne will host the Western Bulldogs in a home final if: Melbourne defeats Geelong AND Port Adelaide defeats the Western Bulldogs AND Brisbane is defeated by West Coast, or Brisbane defeat West Coast but fail to make up 1.8 percent on the Dogs. Scenario 4 – Melbourne (2) v Western Bulldogs (3) Melbourne will host the Western Bulldogs in a home final if: Geelong defeats Melbourne AND the Western Bulldogs defeat Port Adelaide. Scenario 5 – Geelong (2) v Melbourne (3) Geelong will host Melbourne in a home final if: Geelong defeats Melbourne AND Port Adelaide defeats the Western Bulldogs and make up 1.3 percent on the Cats (approximately a 20-point differential eg. If the Cats win by 10 points, the Power will need to win by 30 points). Scenario 6 – Port Adelaide (2) v Melbourne (3) Port Adelaide will host Melbourne in a home final if: Geelong defeats Melbourne AND Port Adelaide defeats the Western Bulldogs but fail to make up 1.3 percent on the Cats.

  20. It's hard to know how well a defensive wing plays because their role means that they are often where the ball ain't. He could play his role immaculately, deter every opposition kick and force long kicks down the line .... and you'd have no idea. Sometime the opposition will take the game on through his side and he'll get it 20+ times, and sometimes they'll barely go near him. That's why pressure acts and tackles don't tell the story for his role, because he could play his role perfectly and be nowhere near the footy for most of the match. Counting possessions for him is silly because the biggest influence on that will be the style and shape of how the game is played. If he does his job well, the reward will be when we win.

  24. One thing I really hope with Jackson is we keep him trim. I think he could very easily turn into a Naitanui type physically, becoming just a burst athlete in the process. Jackson’s strength is that he’s so agile and always in the play. He has to keep that for as long as he can in his career.

  25. It warms the heart that, in a year Collingwood finishes 2nd last and we finish top 3, they have their first pick behind our first pick…

  26. For quick reference - 33. Melbourne 42. Melbourne 52. Melbourne 91. Melbourne Presumably that will somehow become picks 12, 65, 70 and a 2022 second rounder by the time of the actual draft night.

  28. The thing that's got me the most about him is the warp speed improvement week on week. When he was drafted he was said to be a project player who hadn't played much footy but showed rapid improvement. I thought he looked like one of those players who are picked for their athletic potential even though they don't have a footy brain. His game awareness has turned out to be absolutely elite. His ability at 19yrs to already compete physically in the ruck against mature bodies is a shock. He's put on 10kg's just since last season. 91kg to 101kg.

  30. The top 5 players on the ground for average speed in defence against the Crows were ours and Brayshaw was the number one player on the ground in that category. I think he’s had a marvellous season and has worked his butt off helping the team defend. I feel we try and find faults when they’re really not there sometimes.

  34. I love this kid already. We have kept him nice and secret and fresh for the finals. What a brilliant player he is going to be for us over the next decade and a half. Well done Jake! I was coach of the1973 Cheltenham High(Jake's recent School) footy team. I also coached the late and great Trevor Barker at the same school. Looks like my coaching skills live on. Ha ha. But I really did coach Trev at Chelt High.Go Dees you CAN Do It!!!!

  38. Some players are just naturals. Size doesn't matter when you have speed of mind and great skills. Can't see this bloke getting flustered and I cant see him being dropped. I thought he would have come in earlier but we rightfully gave Jetta the chance early and made Jake earn his stripes so he was 100% ready to be successful Great drafting, development and selection MFC

  41. I'd be getting a tattoo of an iconic moment in the granny... think Jones celebration pic during the elimination final v Geelong. Then I'd buy as much 2021 demons merchandise as humanly possible. Then I'd buy the 2022 jumper because we would have the gold afl logo. Then I'd renew my membership for the whole fam. Then id probably have some divorce papers to read through.

  43. Langdon matched up on Seedsman almost all day, and specifically in the first quarter. Both teams wanted to use the wing those 2 were on all game. Angus plays the defensive wing and does a lot of running purely for the team. He’s an important role player for the team. The stats don’t tell you the whole story.
