  1. Ventured to Casey this morning to find the arena "bathed" in light. Thinking I might have stumbled on part two of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, I was somewhat intrigued to see that the lights at Casey had in fact been turned on!! Warmups consisted more or less of similar to last Friday, before segueing into a full scale practice match between the navy blues and the royal blues. Unless you knew the numbers, the colors were somewhat indistinguishable! Here is my report. NO SHOWS, VINEY, KOSSIE, BEN BROWN, HIBBO, JOEL SMITH??? There might have been others but being outside the ground again made it difficult to distinguish LIMITED DUTIES MITCH BROWN, SPARGO, GUS , MELKSHAM MATCH REPORT The match ups were interesting with the navy blues containing what I believe to be the probables against the possibles, although having said that players who made up most of last year’s list were sprinkled between the two sides. RANDOM HIGHLIGHTS AND A FEW LOW ONES AS WELL Game split into 4 about 15-20 min quarters, stiff wind blowing northerly away from the city, umpires were AFL list, I hink. Trent Rivers played well across HBF and has become more at home and composed with the footy. Ed Langdon was all over it on the wing and won possession after possession. Harry Petty was played down back and whilst he did a few nice things, was not noticeable. James Jordan has skills and played well in a variety of roles. Vanders was back and was involved in a few bone jarring tackles and was his usual imposing self. At one stage Max took umbrage to his fierce tackling and let him know about it. Clayton "Minestrone" Oliver was in everything and was the catalyst to so many clearances. His disposal was crisp and clean. It was between Max, Langdon and for BOG. The name "Minestrone" for me conjures up the fact that in one you get everything ... That was choo choo today! L.J WOW ... has he come of age? Took marks, kicked three goals, rucked, roved and was a catalyst - is ready to impose this year! Harmes played ON BALL resting on a half forward flank and was back to his best. Expect to see him more in midfield this year. Bailey Laurie and Jake Bowey - take a bow recruiting team led by team Jason Taylor. Both are quick, decisive with hand and foot and both are excitment machines destined to play early this year, probably Bailey Laurie more so at this stage. Fraser "The Freak" Rosman, WOW, Today took the MOTD and also kicked TGOTD. Was instrumental in some set ups and will play early. Faded towards the end but ... is exciting. Trac just cannot be tackled he is soooo elusive just reminds me of myself in my heyday LOL ... Played like he did last year. Tom McDonald was quiet early (matched up against Steve May) but kicked 2 or 3 good goals. Similar to last week where I singled out Chunky Jones, today it was NEV JETTA'S turn to wind back the clock with a really good display down back. Fritta was fritta laconic BUT dangerous. Max did as he liked and whilst this is good please God if he or Clarry gets injured >>>>> ? Others to impress were Aaron Nietschke, will be a formidable ruckman, Jay Lockhart, Toby Bedford, Kade Chandler and Aaron Bradke, Hunt was busy of the hbf and Chunky decisive POSITIVES As above, plus plenty of endeavour skills seemed better under pressure and players looking for smart options, we should have plenty of scope for multi options and a very strong second tier who are sure to put pressure on for game day spots in the ones. NEGATIVES We still have issues with kick out strategies. other teams seem to be able to do this at will but we struggle and a few times played on only to bomb hopefully. we stiil will over rely on our core group , but i can see visible narrowing of superstars and next tier. Hitting targets under pressure needs to be the focus No slitherers seen today thankfully Cheers PF

  2. Correct S L - I can picture my high school literature teacher fuming over this heading.? When Juliet asked "Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?" she was asking why did his name have to be Romeo of the Montagues, enemies of her family. Lesson over. ?

  3. I never thought I would say this but I watched the whole game and enjoyed it. Standard has improved considerable. Then the Dees won how good is that.

  4. I'm pretty certain that Saty (I assume that's who you are referring to), doesn't drive a car, but apart from that, given the amount of flack he cops from others on this site, I can't say I'd blame him if he had retired his keyboard... I noticed in another topic on this board today, that he even comes under fire from certain posters for his non-footy related tweets. People really should give it a rest!

  11. BOG - Hanks/ Mithin/ goldrick fantastic win. Best AFLW game I’ve seen. Girls hard as nails. We’ve had the talent but I saw the grit tonight.

  13. Fantastic win by the girls. That last quarter was great to watch as they both went hammer and tongs. Again I thaught Paxman was our best player. Pearce was excellent in the ruck and Daisy played a great game. Hanks is becoming one of my favourites. She is in everything and disposes of the ball well. It was good to see Madddie Gay as well. We needed a more solid midfielder and she fits that bill very well. Goldrick, Miffen, Parry, Scott and Birch played well. A win like that can be a team lifter for the whole club. I hope the boys watched it as well.

  14. They was so good to watch ...they have improved enormously & you can certainly see the difference when the teams that were the inauguration teams play. I can honestly say there is a great future for AFLW !!!

  15. The quality of game is exponentially improving each season and nearly each game. The second quarter was the best I have ever seen. Just quietly... how good is it having a key forward!!!!

  16. I'll leave this up as a warning to all to please keep personal politics out of the footy threads. Ok to predict we might be in lockdown for longer but let's not go down the political blame game rabbit hole. There are other venues to vent.

  17. Dazzle gee I can see a truckload of potential there, I wouldn't say he looks overawed but still finding his feet in the pressure cooker. He is very very quick and skills are neat.Took a clever mark and just missed kicking a goal into the breeze. Has a box of tricks ,but needs to grow in confidence, will need a few seasons but a definite keeper?

  19. Seriously no one deserves a premiership more than Daisy. She was awesome in that final term with her smother and going back with the flight. Good that we held on and sitting pretty at the top.

  20. Well, you were a quarter and a couple of goals off, but you nailed it! As did the Dees! Super impressive win. Never seen them come out firing like that against such quality opposition and sustain it for so much of the game. North looked shell-shocked and quite flat to be honest, but their comeback was pretty much a guarantee and I thought our players weathered it well when they'd lost momentum. There were some shaky moments though! I wish we could have been there to cheer them on, but I hope the girls and staff felt the support anyway (and from the couple of people peering through the fence at Casey while 'exercising'!). Goldrick rapidly becoming a favourite. Doesn't care who she's up against, doesn't care about making mistakes, just goes for it and brings so much to the team. Weirdly I probably saw more blatant mistakes from both Daisy and Paxman than I've seen in their AFLW careers to date. But they were there in the critical moments with some big last gasp efforts. Mithen was ever-present. Gay gave us some of the extra oomph we'd been missing in the middle. Aside from quiet games from a couple (Zanker, Birch, McNamara - fair enough in just a third game!), everyone had their moments and it was a pretty even spread. Didn't give North the chance to ever truly get going; we only saw a glimpse of how damaging they can be. Next week? Who cares, this is one to savour!

  21. Hard not to like AFLW when the quality is like this match. Yeah the comp started slowly, but it is rapidly gaining momentum. Genuinely entertaining that was. Go you good things !!!!!

  22. AFLW will silence almost every doubter a decade from now, if the current improvement curve continues. I was a doubter at first, and early on the skills were garbage. Jesus the improvement has been huge. It's not just an enjoyable game because they wear the Dees colours any more. They have some serious skills and toughness considering their time in the game. Bloody impressive.

  32. Thanks for your great report today PF l like that Harmes is looking good and playing some game time as a mid. Vander's bone crunching tackles means that he is injury free and able to play in pre season matches. It would be good to see him involved. LJ , Rivers and the young draftees in Bowey and Lawrie They are our future and good to here they are doing well.

  33. Yes- another drunken friend of mine likened Ho Chi Minh to a glorious freedom fighter. Unfortunately his results were famine, genocide, poverty and disaster- as with ALL adherents to Marxist philosophy. Why people keep repeating “ but that wasn’t real communism” is beyond me. The results never vary.

  34. Garry Lyon is very close to the McCartin family and good on him for supporting the kid. I have only media knowledge of Paddy's concussion issues and what he went thru in 2019 sounded horrendous. He had no lifestyle at all. All credit to him for getting to a point where he could be recruited. I think he spent some time training with Sydney late last year. But he is a knock or two away from a life damaging injury if not now in the future. If he was my son I would encourage him to find another career. From an mfc view I don't think it is worth the risk in part because there is no way of knowing how many games he could play and we could easily end up with 3 tall fwds out for a large part of the season. I would hate for it to be like KK. We have T Mc, M Brown, LJ and cameos from Petty to play the tall fwd role(s). For years Richmond played and won a flag with only one tall fwd building a fleet of small players around him. With the recruitment of Bowey, Laurie plus Kozzie, Spargo etc we can have a high performing fwd line with our list, as long as the game plan maximises the talents we have. No from me.

  41. Thanks, PF. Really appreciated seeing your excellent report pop up. Such a refreshing change from some of the endless drivvle on this site of late! Just one question, re your comment about Nietschke being a ruckman. You being serious? I've no idea what position he plays, but ruck wasn't one that has ever entered my head. Can you elaborate?

  42. From the club's twitter account today at training. Got to admire the resilience. Webber was all over it when he suggested there was nothing stopping Sam building the upper body. Looks like he's made a pretty good start of it already.
