  1. Demonland is proud to announce that we will be sponsoring new recruit Fraser Rosman in addition to our sponsorship of Jayden Hunt. Fraser replaces delisted Demon Josh Wagner.

  2. There will be covid outbreaks. Probably on the East Coast so a 'footy frenzy' may depend on how 'trigger-happy' state premiers are in closing borders. Right now they are very twitchy so it is likely we will see rescheduling of some sort. Hopefully, it is just location rather than wholesale change to the fixture. And, if there needs to be a hub it will be in Victoria so (selfishly) we can still get to see games. And while I'm talking of 2021; may you all enjoy this festive season, say goodbye to a horrid 2020 and look forward to good health and an exciting and successful year for our beloved Demons. ???

  3. No. McDonald did s full pre season under Darren Burgess and came even bigger. I'm sorry I know people like to blame Dave Mission for all our past injuries problems but this one is on Burgess. Just remember Burgess had already been appointed in his role at the Dees and started implementing their off season programs by August. To say that Burgess had no knowledge is an absolute cop out.

  7. Great, I like the fact that he went hard on his fitness etc over the 2020 when there was no competition. Says a lot for his application and expectations. hope we got the best drifter in the draft

  9. I can imagine, but it's not pretty. My MFCSS tells me that it's time for the AFL (pronounced "awful") to suspend F/S nominations. New AFL rules to bugger us again

  12. Hopefully the Oliver contract renewal doesn’t turn into a saga and he signs before the season starts. We don’t want any distractions. I reckon he’ll sign on for another 2 years which will take him to FA.

  13. I can imagine egocentric players like Dangerfield would looovvvve to see their names plastered all over the back of their jumpers. ? Leave that to the Americans.

  14. Not quite right. Stuie went to Tassie after he left Melbourne at the premature age of 25, but he grew up in the tiny hamlet of Digby in the Western District and was recruited from Portland Football Club, the same source as Clyde Laidlaw.

  17. I think he’s a long shot and nothing more. If he didn’t have the Farmer name I doubt we’d be giving him a trial. It would be great to see a Farmer running around in the red and blue but I won’t be holding my breath.

  18. The club liquidated the investment of $6.6m which was the wash-up from the Leighoak sale. $2m when to pay-down debt and $3m to fund the operating loss. The remainder is in the bank account. The debt was in the form of commercial bills which can be expensive. Interest expenses was greater than the interest earned on the investment hence made sense to pay down the debt. They are not pretty numbers but we were lucky to have the leighoak proceeds to tide us over. Another year like this year and we’ll either have to tap the AFL, drawdown on the commercial bill facility again or sell the Bentleigh Club and live off the proceeds. Note 2b outlines the basis on which the directors are satisfied to sign off the statements on a going concern basis. I note the auditors haven't included a reference in their audit report to going concern which is positive. Suggests no immediate reasons to be concerned about the financial situation. I’d be interested to see what sponsorship and membership are looking like for 2021. Are we renewing at the same rates or is there a drop-off? I hope the vaccines are effective and we can get back to full crowds again and relative normality otherwise it’ll be another round of wage cuts, reduced list sizes and austerity.

  20. The 10 players who will shape WAFL colts finals Taj Woewodin (East Fremantle) Woewodin is the young man who needs to step up in the absence of gun midfielder Jack Carroll, just like he did late against Swan Districts. The son of Brownlow medallist Shane was a welcome addition to the Sharks’ line-up for the final home-and-away round after his PSA commitments with Aquinas College finished up. He is a strong leader, a classy ball user by foot and can play across half-back or in the midfield. Has been named on-ball, but is likely to rotate with starting half-back flanker Finn Gorringe.

  21. I am duly chastised Ernest and on the basis of your expressed reasons I am now numbers forever. I am right beside you as we storm the barricades of the AFL money sharks.

  22. Would be a shame if that turned out to be the case Gunna as it looks like a good fixture for us. As long as our international borders are secure in the short to medium term I think we'll be ok. They pretty much had the covid situation under control domestically until this issue with the airline crew driver contracting it. So much for NSW being the gold standard in covid prevention as they were also responsible for letting the german mother and daughter board a local flight to Melbourne undetected.

  23. How much room does the AFL think there is on those jumpers? Especially if your name is like a Kolodjashnij. It would be so small no one could see it properly from far away. Just saw your post FD. Sorry, but those jumpers look a mess. I notice they show only short names.

  24. Wouldn’t want you managing our TPP if you’d rather be paying T Mac $750 k to be playing at Casey as a back up tall forward as opposed to some Ruck insurance by paying McKernan $250 k at Casey in case Max goes down.

  25. I am becoming a sentimental old fool, but I like the numbers and think they are so much part of the history and culture of the game. Think Flower and Barassi and you think and visualise number 2 & 31. They are mutually inclusive. I think at one stage a few years ago there was a suggestion that the Commissariat was thinking of ditching the numbers and just use surnames ( no doubt also freeing up space for more advertising). If they ever did enact such an edict, it would really be time for a people’s revolution.

  26. Line of credit could have been used to help with liquidity in time of crisis. With reduced cash flow and substantial asset value tied up in illiquid assets (ie stadiums) there was a risk the AFL would not have the cash to pay bills. By opening credit against Marvel, they had additional cash to make payments to clubs, so that clubs could keep operating too.

  27. so....this game will be a litmus test....a watershed game.... it will be either the start of the beginning or the beginning of the end.... we will find out if the learnings of 2020 will bear fruit in 2021...

  30. People forget the fact he was asked to play forward because of injuries to Hogan and others in 2017 and still managed to kick 23 goals but 2019 started and he was recovering from injures as well as carrying extra weight, no one predicted 2020 was going to be disaster for Tom. The MFC changed fitness coaches from Mission to Burgess who had no knowledge that Tom was carrying extra weight that Mission wanted him to carry.

  31. The trash that Tmac has served up in the last 2 years has been an embarrassment but if he can turn it around then he is definitely superior to Jackson. Jackson is a ruckman who has kicked 3 goals in 6 games. If Tmac did that last season people would be calling for his head. Tmac has shown to be one of the best forwards in the game so even though I like Jackson (as a ruck) he hasn't come close to Tmac in any way, shape or form. I know fans love young players, and especially demonlanders who have a long history of overrating our youngsters and jumping the gun so lets not get too far ahead of a 6 game, 3 goal ruck turned forward.

  32. I hate Friday night games; watching us get obliterated ruins the whole weekend. Sunday twilight games are the go. At least we get to enjoy a couple of days of foolishly naïve, care-free optimism before we get belted.

  33. Starting to wonder if we took Bowey first knowing that there was major interest in Laurie and allowing more time to see if a good trade offer would come in from another club.

  34. This young recruit looks perfect (for a change) with inside passing to forwards - from multiple (including long-distance) passing inside the hot zone. It is great to see. A very good, evasive and eyes-up feeder for BB, Fritta and the Weed. I can magnify that with the timely additional acquisition of 'Jake, the Bowey Knife' feeding machine. In addition to these attributes and impressive signs, both of the blokes can 'go the goal' themselves with accuracy, distance as required and somewhat surreptitiously for opposition defenders. Must get my membership shorted ASAP! Both of them have hellishly good foot skills I've noticed.

  35. There’s a chance that we might leave both slots open for the mid season draft. It seems to me that there are likely to be a number of players who missed their Under 18 year and didn’t have sufficient time or exposure to show the improvement that they might otherwise have demonstrated but for the pandemic.

  36. Personally I'd be leaving a slot open for the mid season draft. There'll be more than one good player that slipped through the draft purely due to the circumstances. With half a season under their belt we'll have a better idea on talent.

  39. Even though the last two years have been pretty concerning, I haven’t written TMac off yet. CHB looks to be the most obvious position for him. He simply must regain some agility though - his turning circle this year seemed to resemble that of the Bismarck on or about 26 May 1941. And that isn’t exactly what we need in a KPP.

  40. Both are the same height, and do offer a huge tank - as long as TMac can get fit again. TMac also started on the wing in many games in 2018/2019, then went forward, so if we could work it that either TMac or Tomlinson works to get a direct advantage on their opponent then tactically I think it could work. If we're on top then put TMac on the wing and send him forward, while if we're getting beaten then Tomlinson to the wing and he drifts back to assist. Having a tall wingman is a point of difference that can be a real asset if used correctly, it means on kick outs (against) it's easier to defend the non-ruck side, and when we kick out there's an additional outlet, just need them to hold their positions. At stoppage situations they'd both have to hold their positions on the defensive side, while Langdon can be used as more of an offensive weapon.

  41. I hear what you are saying, AND I disagree. Do you know the full context @Better days aheadfor your entitlement to be able to 'heavily criticise' him? He is/was a marketable commodity, and the deal was made at a time when he was tracking beautifully. He presumably has been cruelled by injury. He didn't ask for that, and I am sure he is ALSO disappointed with his output. AND, he and his manager negotiated the best outcome for Tom and his family at the time... this is actually the reason you try to get as much as possible financially... so that when you do get significantly injured, it may be a long time (if ever) that you get back to playing your best. Big coin doesnt mean yer sitting on yer ar$e.

  42. We all have an awareness of this; it is a legacy of a series of gifted games at the expense of others. Such observations do not necessary refer to TMac ... so the '3rd coming' can be anticipated should the injuries and related mobility effects be overcome.

  43. TMAc could provide the ideal Big Man Interchange package. He has experience at both ends of the ground. Remember he was touted as a possible AA at one stage, then went as a FWD , but has been injured the last year and a half. Prior to his injury he was THE endurance athlete of the club. SO !!!!!! he is big enough and strong enough and quick to cause some damage coming down the ground. OH... by the way he is a very good lead and a good overhead competitive mark. I am really looking forward to TMac's 3rd coming. This forum seems to give everyone a chance as long as his name does not start with McD...

  44. Thank you Steven May what an effort in 2020, runner up to Tracc for the B&F, you are exactly what Dee's need down back, your efforts and skill have really stiffened up our back line and have surpassed our expectations in a really nice way. We no longer leak those easy heartbreaking goals that cost games. Your family must be very proud of you as are us Demon supporters.!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. So Rivers kicks the winning goal in a tough elimination finals type game and he misses out. Surely you have look beyond the pure stats. Even Rivers spoil in the last 15 seconds showed his heart and toughness to match his skill and run. Sholl played a good game in a match that counted for nothing really.
