  1. I was there for 1 hr. Very windy conditions. Pruess - not convinced he will play this week, trained away from main group and left track early, taking 1 handed chest marks as to not favour his crook shoulder. May, Lever, Bradkte, Maynard - trained away from main group. AVB, Hannan, KK - not sighted. Lewis, Lockhart, Jetta - all trained fully and are available for selection, Lewis looked good. Sparrow stood out to me in match simulation, was in everything... ANB was training hard also.

  2. Sorry, I just can't abide that comment. Ablett and Buddy loved their clubs, had played for them for 8-10 years and helped them win multiple premierships. Both highly respected inside and outside their clubs. No comparison to HWSMBN who played for a year then had a dubious knee injury. He made it obvious he did not want to play in the red and blue, didn't get on with teammates, walked out on a trip to China and showed no respect for our club, President or fans. No prodigal son scenario for him at the Dees, imv!

  3. His contract will get sorted. It's not worth being up in arms about nothing. The club will pay him what he's worth and he'll accept. He'll also become a very good player. Clearly a 20 odd game key tall forward isn't playing his best footy at 21. And he wasn't at Casey when he was a teenager. I'm glad he's now getting continuum in the seniors. It will only help him develop.

  4. I saw Hamnan, AVB and JKH in Edwins I thought Chandler shone today in the drills I thought the kicking in the windy conditions was really good One frightening bit was Petty, they were doing a defensive spoiling drill involving a couple of bags, McCartney shouted 'crash it' as Petty approached the second bag, he did, he spoiled but then did a complete 360 in the air over the bag, which collapsed underneath him He landed face down but bounced straight up, I think the accompanying laughter from everyone was more nervous relief than anything

  5. As discussed in tonight's podcast, on demonwiki.org we've been compiling a list of all the MFC connected players who served in wars as well as the better known list of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. This stretches from the Boer War to the Korean War, and is very much a work in progress so if anyone can shed more light on the service of the players listed below please get in contact via the forum or [email protected]. Fortunately the format copies perfectly from the page (http://demonwiki.org/Players+who+served+during+war) to this forum, so here's the list. The * denotes a non-senior player (e.g. from a lower grade or trained with us without playing a game). A particularly interesting story is the Couve brothers, who both trialled in the 1912 pre-season but didn't play a game and were struck down just 15 days apart during the Gallipoli landings. 6. Give him time. He's had only 2 games with us and hasn't played much footy over the last couple of years. Will get a mix of Casey and senior games this season (injuries permitting). Was a sensation in his 2nd year, that ability doesn't just disappear. Only a fool would write him off at this stage

  11. Buddy is not a team, he is an individual. Individuals don't win Premiership Cups ... they just draw in crowds. ... and they cost too much from the cap.

  12. Looking unlikely Preuss will get up, and it's probably better to get him 100% right for the Tigers (if possible). I think Keilty gets a crack, by all reports he deserves it.

  15. I'm convinced the talk around Scully was all a smokescreen. Kennett has taught every one at Hawthorn politspeak. We were told Scully would be lucky to play at all this year, his injury was so grave he may never return, Hawthorn were looking long term, blah, blah. Lo and behold, he has been playing since Round 2. It's a miracle! Win, win for Hawthorn. They got a bargain, and praise for the expertise of their medical/fitness team/programs. What a load of codswallop.

  19. AFL Player Salaries Based on the table in the article the median is between $300k and $400k. A fair chance that it is around the average of approx $360. I don't think we have a player over $800k so a few of our champs are being paid 'unders'. I recall Lewis giving the players a pep talk a few years ago that if they want the ultimate success they need to grow together so can't be asking top dollar. So far players seem to have been paying attention. As and aside, supporters have a tendency to overstate what player x might actually be earning. Only 140 of 703 players earnt more than $500k.

  20. IMO, buddy likes the curtain around Sydney. He gets to do his stuff in relative anonymity. I don't think its he who wants to leave Sydney. . Each time WE, or others, takes a way too highly payed player off the Swans books, it will come back to hurt us, as it frees up the Swans to go spend on younger players we should be after. . Let them wallow in their own Buddy debt. .

  21. @Dee Zephyr @Wadda We Sing @binman I'll post here occasionally during the off-season (May thru to September) but am going to be very busy at work for the next 2 or 3 months anyway ... may not do a best bet as I'm not sure I'll have the time to identify a standout. But all the best if you're having a dabble!

  22. I think its bloody embarrassing that people are saying we're a window club etc. As far as I'm concerned, this concerned we've been hammered by port, hammered by geelong, beaten by essendon. And it's only round 4. This attitude by the fans that we are somewhat a powerhouse club is embarrassing and probably rubbed off on the players too . I'd take buddy in a flash for the right price.

  23. Sydney put up a dodgy TEN year deal to get Buddy. No club, NO club should help them out. Let them bear the consequences. And if Sydney are trying to get rid of Buddy, ask St.Kilda what sort of condition Hannebury was in when the Swans traded him out.

  28. True. Sort off. The bookies set the initial price. this is tru of all betting markets. The punters then impact that price up or down depending on the money they punt. The bookies had as favorites asin thier considered assesmsnt (based on not wanting to lose money) they think we will win.

  29. he kicks 80 goals a year he'll be on riewoldt, cameron, and franklin level! with the way we're playing and bringing the ball i50, two goals a game average would be very solid, but most importantly is that weed is continuing to impact play on a regular and consistent basis charlie curnow is on over $800k a year; ben brown is on somewhere similar after originally being mooted as possibly earning up to $1m a season, signed up to the end of 2020 - when i believe he'll be one year short of a free agent but pre-agency may become a possibility for brown at the end of this season if the the kangaroos are still average to poor-ish

  31. All reasonable, admittedly. Trying to play the Devil's Advocate, a little, as I myself regard 1-2 games - albeit finals - of good performance yet still cameo performance, as not quite enough given the home-and-away games in which he played yet we lost due to a lack of firepower and continued initiative. If he re-signs and improves reliability, performances and contribution, I'd be happy to have him on-board, still.

  32. Money-hungry moron. Good riddance. Excellent comment from Bluey's dad. "Free speech" is a pretty fluid concept, I suppose. We've all got our own interpretation of what it means. Nobody's throwing him in jail - he's just disobeyed a clear instruction given to him by his employer. I've worked with plenty of employer's conditions - always worked within them or paid the consequences. I've noticed this a bit from the hard-right snowflakes of late - (see Anning, F) - dare to interrupt the flow of their vile bile and you're impinging upon their 'free-speech.'

  33. Otherwise known as "rat cunning" DG. Something the MFC seems to lack but must find at the trade/draft table.

  34. He's the only KPF on the market. The disappointing thing is that the manager seems to be happy putting figures into the media. I suspect Tom Mac's negotiation last year was just as difficult but at least it wasn't a potentially destabilising media saga. After years of the Hogan drama I suspect most MFC supporters are over such things. MFC are in the box seat.... just wait another 6 weeks and decide. Form will tell. For many of us who have watched Sam at VFL level for several years he is by no means a certainty.

  35. If the clubs I mentioned want a replacement for a tall fwd there are a limited number available, so I don't agree they need a reality check. Regarding Sam's performance/potential, I'm not sure who you might be comparing him to. I compare him to other tall players in his draft year: Hipwood leads the field for consistently good performance but he wasn't available and may end up being the pick of the crop. Curnow is getting a lot of kudos but he has stalled this year. All have had fluctuating performances as has Sam. None of the draftees have stood up in a big game like Sam did in the finals. imv he is as good if not better than most of his peers. I have little doubt when Hawks, Cats, Pies, Ess, Sydney go hunting for a fwd they will look at that pool. What other choices do they have? I don't wish to buy into what Sam's $ worth as Mahoney has great control over our salary cap and keeping players. But we supporters shouldn't underestimate that he would be in demand.

  36. Don't know why we are such clear favourites. We've played maybe 2.5 good quarters all year whereas Saints have played consistent without setting the world on fire. Should be a close game. Could go either way imo.

  37. Yeah, sounds like a guy who came third in last year’s Brownlow. Also sounds a little like a certain co-captain that many wanted moved on early in his career (probably the same softcox that want him moved on now... or at least up until last Friday).

  38. Are you sure about that? I thought the oft-quoted Motorola research of the 1980s (or 1970s?) said the opposite. That is, the easiest sell is the repeat sell. That research is the fundamental reason why car manufacturers have developed sophisticated long-term warranty and service plans for new cars. Their view is that a satisfied customer is the easiest person to sell a new (replacement) product to.

  39. and about half of his current salary which is over $1.2m a year key forwards are the big earners in the competition weid has the hallmarks of being a ripper player - he competes in the air and at ground level, tackles, and is a fantastic kick in the grand scheme of salary cap management, $650k a year is not huge money these days tbh

  40. Sorry BB understand to a point but Hawthorn is the best example. They are the best model as they have developed their membership from small to larger an powerful. Your realism is based on years of negativity ( or lack of faith or vision) and our poor record over a period of years. We need to embrace the probable 7,000 increase this year we don't know what the season holds and a flag or sustained success will garner more fans. Sure as hell if you gave your view if you were Gary Pert the members or fans there would be no way you would get any increase. A goal gives an aim and it was never stated this year would be that year. Jim Stynes wanted 40,000 around 2011/12 and look now probably 10,000/14,000 more. We need faith and optism and not sorry (negativity) and in our Society there will always be both but the half glass full approach wins every time. We have the opportunity to start making the MCG a fortress let's do all in our power to make that happen.

  42. Well we will have to wait and see what eventuates over the next 3 to 5 years, I am confident that the club is finally on the right track.

  43. Likes the fake tough stuff more than the real stuff and often uses the ball like he's drunk. Rushes in to contests and rushes his disposal, both traits that aren't particularly suited to the wing or half back. I can't see him being worth the price. The Swans or Saints can have him. It won't be easy to find a perfect outside runner, they aren't easy to come by, but I still think we can do better than Zak. Ed Langdon would be nice, skills aren't great but he's a more natural outside runner, unfortunately he's started the year in good form and might become costly.

  46. It's not hysterical to be realistic. That we are somewhat advanced numbers wise this year is only a reflection of the carry over effect of last season. Well probably end up with about 55 K this season which is certainly not shabby for a bunch of skiers. Also a reality is if we don't play finals this year then the momentum will stop ( for now ) and you'll struggle to repeat this year's figures. Why ? Because people are people and money is money. Off-field membership is effectively a barometer of of on-field success. Ask anyone in sales...the hardest sell is the repeat sell.

  48. Jesse Hogan doesn't have mongrel but he will be a bloody good forward for many years to come. I genuinely believe Weideman has the potential to emulate the same way Josh Kennedy career has. I love the way Kennedy goes about his business. He's not the mongrel forward like a Carey or Brereton, but it doesn't stop him crashing into packs and using his solid frame to his advantage. Something Weideman will start to realise once he fills out.
