  1. I defy anybody that says Jetta ducked

  2. 27,068. Pathetic really. We are a team on the cusp of making the finals for the first time in a decade. I know it was cold. I know we were playing an interstate team but how are we to be taken seriously as a "blockbuster" team if we can't get our own bums on seats? If Geelong are slated to play the Tigers in a final there will be no question that that game gets played on the G rather than in Geelong. If we line up against the Cats I guarantee you we are playing at Simmonds. Get your arses, your mates arses, your mums and dads, grannies and grandpas, your cats and dogs to the footy. Mini rant over.

  3. You are all being overly critical of Sammy, stats do not tell the whole story. For those who actually saw the game (me) yes he was quiet but that's because he was double teamed all night, even sometimes triple teamed. What he did do well was compete strongly in the air, allowing the other forwards to get free and have big impacts. At one stage he ran back against the flight of the ball and crashed couragesly into a big pack, taking a fantastic contested mark and then stabbing a kick to Pederson who then converted a goal. You can't expect a 20 year old kid who was getting 2 or 3 AFL level defenders at every contest to have a massive game mark/scoring wise. God damn you dudes are crazy harsh

  4. I was at home in Perth. WHERE WERE ALL OF YOU AT SUBIACO 3 WEEKS AGO WHEN TOMMY MAC KICKED THE GOAL OF THE SEASON AND I ALMOST GOT KILLED BY 30,000 ANGRY, SUNBURNT BOGANS? I SWEAR SOMEONE TRIED TO THROW A JETSKI AT ME! Pathetic.

  5. IN the same passage of play he beat Robbie Gray in a one on one and then took on Dixon.

  7. Disagree. Harmes is a walk up start.

  8. yawn. Don't need our own slagging off at us. There is plenty in the media to do that. The Dees have possibly the most resilient supporter base in the country. We have cracked 40,000 members. Everyone is 'busy'. Numbers always drop off in winter. The Pies had 22k blah blah.

  9. Next time one of the uneducated bogans from the HS brings up Josh Kelly and Tyson/Salem, make sure the following year's trade is pointed out to them. Melbourne traded pick 23 to GWS for Frost, pick 40 (Neal-Bullen) and pick 53 (Oscar McDonald). The best part? GWS used pick 23 on Pat McKenna, who is now on our list. That has to be the most one-sided trade we've ever done. Anyway, ANB, tracking very nicely. Has gone from panic merchant to Mr. Cool with ball in hand.

  13. Correct, he did not duck. He took the ball going full speed and did not duck. That was a careless tackle by a guy so was frustrated he was being repeatedly beaten at contests by a bloke who is 22cms shorter and 25kgs lighter. Dixon lashed out in frustration because he is a sook and a proven loser. Amazing to think he is nearly 27 years old already and still can't string it together. Loser. Jetta on the other hand busts his ass with hard work and has become one of the best defenders in the league over the past few years. He's All Australian standard. And a winner.

  15. Was parenting. If it makes you feel better though, I managed to get my 4 year old daughter to watch almost 10 minutes with me - which is a new record for her. My 6 year old son is completely uninterested. It might have something to do with the 2m Max Gawn height measuring chart he was sent earlier this year as part of his membership package. I put it up in his room and it scared the [censored] out of him. Had to take it down. Ol Max now lives in his wardrobe, which I must now shut completely before bed each night. Also, on the uninterested side, I tried to get him on track by taking him to Auskick when the season started. It was pathetic. 200 odd kids and 4 coaches. A few witches hats and a bunch of balls, and I ended up running the drills for my son's group. I know nothing about teaching footy or kids. They didn't even explain what the drills were supposed to be until half way through the session. Then in the match simulation they popped him in the goal square, ball didn't go near him the entire 15 minute game. He was running around making aeroplane sounds with his hands stretched out. It's been a battle to get him to go ever since. Footy is now 'boring'. Thanks Auskick. Sorry, this post ended up a long way away from where it started.

  18. Are you serious 1. We haven't beaten North since 2006. 2. They have a good record down in Hobart 3. We need to keep winning to even play finals. 4. Every game is an 8 point game from now on. So NO WAY!!!!!!!!!

  19. Rance is playing the wrong sport: he'd not be out of place in a soccer team where staging and diving and collapsing are part of the furniture. Or, maybe he should be on stage where he can get applause for his 'acting' abilities. Worst of all, we have the clown Gill talking big about cleaning up the AFL and sniping thugs like Rance are allowed to get away with what he did to Steve Johnson. Admittedly, Johnson 'collapsed' as well but how and why should that be allowed to part of the game?????

  20. Can't stand the bloke , absolute stager and a weak pirck. The way every commentator gushes over me sends me over the edge. I concede he a a decent defender and great at leaving his man to intercept, but one on one he is average.

  21. I don't see any reason why we can't win every remaining game. Time we beat North Melbourne GWS are vulnerable and over-rated Should beat St Kilda, Brisbane and Collingwood at the MCG

  23. Just managed to watch the game again and saw the first half for the first time, and well just a few thoughts. ANB. He came off the back of the square straight to the contest, and did it all day long. He seemed to be by himself everytime. Could PA not see this? Why didnt they try and get somebody to at least go with him. Maybe just too fast. He also set up several goals or started the chain that led to them. VINEY. He just didnt stop did he. People were worried hed be playing in pain, or lacking match fitness. Plantar Facitis. Hes back 2w after the operation. If he was playing in pain, nobody told Jack. Outstanding all day. GAWN. Back to Max of old in the first half. How long has it been!?? We totally and absolutely smashed them in the clearences, something theyd been excelling in for the last month or so. At every stoppage we were unbeatable. PA were shell shocked. Then when he went off in the 3rd injured our structure seemed to change. We didnt win the clearances TMac was not doing his stuff in the forward line. I was thinking wheres Pedo? He did get back on but seemed to just run out the game on half speed, clearly an injury to the lower leg. Hell be fine. NEV "The Wall" JETTA Words cant describe the 1% deft touches, out and out tackles and sheer determination of this guy. I know hes been playing for a few years but.. where did he come from? With all the injuries weve had, this guy has just stood strong and kept us alive and in the race. Takes on guys twice his size and wins and they dont like it. HOGAN. With all hes been through this year, Father dying, cancer, suspension and even caught smoking god forbid, he was back this game. Im amazed hes even playing at all. Cancer and its effects at such a young age is unpredictable. Even the psychological aspect in itself may take years with some of us. Not Jesse. He just need to get that match fitness and mojo back and look out. Some of his positioning and moves was just pure physics. Zero stress. Just did it. Good on you Jesse. Welcome back. The club and the team would be especially proud of you. This team is still building.

  26. "The number 27,068 was the biggest crowd for a Melbourne and Port Adelaide game at the MCG. It was the 10th match between the two sides at the home of football, with this clash eclipsing the previous best of 24,533 in round five, 1999." Source - MFC

  28. I'd like to congratulate the supporters who were able to make it. The noise, shouting, barracking, heckling - whatever you want to call it - was just as ferocious and manic as the boys' efforts on the field, particularly early. The sniff of September was in all our snouts, and the atmosphere in the crowd was as rabid, parochial and electric as it's been all year. And this was in the supposed polite confines of the MCC! (Back still sore from throwing my daughters in the air - and just starting to get my voice back after a few days hoarse!)

  29. 27k turning up out of a total membership of 41K is as good a percentage as ANY Melbourne based club can expect against an interstate side, except those relocated ( BN & SY). Especially on a cold Saturday afternoon. Bigger attendances happen because "supporters" turn up as well as the die-hard members. They will only do that when conditions are ideal, and a big match beckons. This is the reality for the Melbourne sides. It is why Hawthorn and North play their games in Tassie. It is why we go to the NT. Collingwood would have paid to play at Docklands with their crowd yesterday. Melbourne play Carlton and 47K turn up. Everyone thinks it is a an acceptable crowd. But for 2 Melbourne based sides it is 23.5K each. Melbourne play Essendon and 44K turn up...same story. 27 K is as good as it gets.

  30. Let's also not forget that Hawthorn got 27k vs GC. This is the Hawthorn team that has won 4 flags in 8 years. Meanwhile we've lost games by 180 and 140 points and still have a higher attendance than they do. Next negative thing to talk about?

  31. It really was an awful look for Dixon to be standing over jetts and screaming in his face. Ugly. Deserved every boo he got. And by the by i have never heard a player get booed all day for yelling at someone before. And it was actually a really dangerous tackle as both players were going flat out. Jetts was lucky not to be seriously hurt

  33. I feel your pain, binman. Having watched the Dixon head high tackle on Jetta over and over, as have you I'm sure, Jetta couldn't have done any better NOT to duck, so there can be but one explanation for the seeming delusion of others on here. Fake news! The Trumpist pathology is spreading, even to Demonland, and objective reality is no longer assured. Black is white, facts are flexible and the truth is alternative. Save your breath I reckon.

  34. [censored]. Are you trying to wind people up? I went to the game. Saw it live and have watched it a dozen time on video. He in no way ducks. He does not lower his body at all, flex his knees nor incline his head or drop his shoulders. He was running flat out and trying to get down the boundary line and break free. And would have if he didn't have his head ripped off. What's your evidence that he ducked?

  37. I like the composure of Trengove . They won't rush Brayshaw back imho . Not sold on JKH but I think we May need to use 25-29 players on the road to victory. The 30 best are all still in the mix given Sh!t happens re injuries/ suspensions, funerals,Bah Mitzvahs , meteor strikes , alien abductions and the like.

  38. One of my most despised players in the AFL. He takes cheap shots off the ball, particularly while his opponent's back is turned, and as stated above he stages at every given opportunity. The problem is he's relatively good at staging, unlike the many who have got caught. As Danny Green would say "he's not even a K9".

  41. Obviously interstate members are excused and I understand that some people have work/sport/other committments. No one "has" to go and nor do I have any right to question anyone's commitment. I just don't think we will have any rights to whinge about the draw if we can't get bums on seats.

  43. If we miss finals I'll blame you DWA, why tempt fate like that? My most hated 4 words in the english language. You want to block offensive content @Demonland I'd have that 4 word combo at the top of the list. Seriously though, anyone who'd rather play Richmond than Port in the finals hasn't been watching this season. The Tiger aren't that bad a side, a bit inconsistent like us but they're better than Port, West Coast, the Bulldogs, St Kilda and Essendon. 3 of the top 4 losing this week has blown the premiership race open. 2 top 4 spots there for the taking and GWS looking very shaky and with a difficult run home. A top 4 spot is ours if we're good enough. Win our last 5 and we'll have the double chance, regardless of what else happens. We could let 1 slip and still make the 4 but would need other games to go our way. To miss the 8 from here we'd have to choke, win the games we should (nth, bris, coll) and we're playing finals. As a lifelong demon I can't rule out us choking big time but I do have the feeling that this group is made of different stuff than the demon sides I've followed from the mid 70's.

  44. First time we've ever won the week after hosting a Darwin game... I specifically watched at the ground who it was that was to be the 7th defender charging into the square at the first bounce and what impact they'd have. It was of course Nibbler, and sure enough he got the first disposal off. Notice that he then also works his way all the way down the ground to be poised to score our first metres from goal if they have allowed the advantage for Tommys free kick. Nibblers workrate is extremely impressive I'm glad he's translating that Casey form that i saw last year into the seniors.

  45. In the past a player like ANB would have little to no chance of making it at melbourne. He's an example of what can happen if you have the right development program in place and your prepared to work hard.

  46. Wouldn't worry about that. When Todd was coaching Echuca he turned up on crutches and was so furious at how the team was going at half time he threw them away and played the second half.

  47. May have been a spotlight game for list management. And whether to offer another contract. Bern will have his last year end of 2018. Lewis as well. Trenners is only 25. So if we keep him on, he may end up surprising all over again, with the freedom to just play & play smart. with his maturity & experiences.

  49. Unless someone in the 22 is injured, no change this week. This team should be more than capable of getting the job done against the equal-worst side in the competition. Assuming Jones is ready the following week, likely to be the lesser of Trengove and JKH. I will also say I'm not convinced Vince walks back into the side after his suspension. His form this year has been rubbish IMO.
