Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yep 2 serious foot injuries in one year

That is a concern.

So you’re saying trade him now because he’s crippled and won’t play good footy again? You’re assuming Burgess and Adelaide are stupid and haven’t done their due diligence?
He’ll play early next year. Bet on it.

No. I am weighing up all considerations. A big one is his injury history.
Right now he is at Top value, but he is also valuable to us…

Yes Burgess would know Harrison…

I agree Kane makes a lot of sense, if Petty does actually want to leave. if he does want to leave the Dunkley comparison is a relevant one.

Kane has some out there opinions but it doesn’t mean he’s always wrong.

A lot of demonlanders are triggered by Kane and Morris. I don’t get it as not many of their claims are outright wrong. They’re just doing their jobs and we all click on the articles!

Agree wholeheartedly.

What on earth is going on here?

We literally have a potential forward at 23 years of age at 197cm and we want to trade him?

No one has ever mentioned that he won't be playing next year........

Pick 10 in this draft (which probably blows out to 13 by the pick) where we already have 6, 11.

Versus a pretty solid likely worse case for end of first round compo in 2 years time.

And we have a CHF/CHB whilst in flag contention.

And I don’t have to cry watching Tom McDonald, Ben Brown, Schache or god knows who play CHF?

What are we doing here.

He is not at top value - as you just effing said - he has foot issues all year.

Adelaide are not going so hard to recruit a crook player. They want him at his cheapest.

If he wants to go - he can go end of next year after playing 22 games and kicking 50 goals.

Couple of update questions:

2. How's Harry's hoof?

That is the real question.

Lisfranc is a horrible injury and Webber might care to elaborate, but if that is his injury and he has now injured his foot twice, it could be a real problem.

My understanding is that Lisfranc injuries can be career threatening.

He is a big guy and that makes it worse with more weight on the foot.

I wouldn't trade Petty, BUT. I would get 2 top foot specialists to effectively make the decision, is he ok or not.

If we did 10, Fogarty or Thilthorpe and McAdam is fair as is 10, 14 and McAdam and very late pick Lions for Gunston for a  year or two.

We get pick one, get a key forward and have a high pick left.

...which goes to my other 'update' question: what is Adelaide, not the media, actually saying?

except gunston is no longer a key forward

he's been in decline for a few years.  at brisbane, when he can get a game he gets the fourth best backman. at melbourne as the key forward, he gets an even tougher opponent

no, no, gunston's boat has sailed. more chance norf win the flag.

If Petty played at another club and entered the national draft at his age with his level of experience, we would take him with our first pick - he's a young physically mature key position forward AND back that has proven ability to play at a high level in the AFL.

There are likely KPP in the draft that could have better careers than him - but they are less bankable than he is at this point in time and they are not ready to hold down a key position post like he is.

The idea of getting pick 10 for him is ludicrous.

A Mill a year is not a cheap player, if the Croms are desperate for him, what can we squeeze out of them.

OK, so let's keep this thread motoring along with this:

Tom McDonald's 2022 Lisfranc was assessed as 'low grade' (MFC - definitely). Harrison Petty's has been assessed as 'high grade' (MFC - apparently).

This is at least relevant to plans, either from within current playing stocks or via trade and/or draft/s, for coverage for Harry for period of time.

I wouldn’t bet on it.

I say this based only on a conversation about the seriousness of Fritta’s foot injury (different injury, I know) and the long-term treatment and all that goes with that - with a Fritta family member, he ended the conversation with, “… of course, it’s not nearly as serious as Harrison’s injury.”

I'm no mathematician, but I am pretty sure that Petty "100%" being with us next year leaves no additional % to argue the chances of a trade. Good. The debate for the trade was wild.

Cornes, go home.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
