Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I don't think you need to write off the forwards on our list quite yet.  JVR and Jefferson are both quality young players.  They just need another couple of years to build their bodies and turn into AFL footballers.  I would expect Jefferson to play in the seniors at some point next year.  His mobility and athleticism are a good foil for JVR.  If we use Petty as the primary KPF, they could both work off him and impact games.

That being said, the elephant in the room is that our forward line problems aren't about the players.  It's all about the gameplan, or more accurately, the lack of a plan to score goals.  We default to either a bomb to the "hot spot" or a chip to the pocket, two spectacularly low-percentage plays.  Our forwards don't move, they don't work for each other, they have no tactics in use to create space for each other so we can take marks in threatening positions.  This is entirely on the coaches and it needs to be addressed far more than whether we have the players.

I’m chips in for JVR

Jefferson is a wait and see imv.  Some good signs but not enough. Too early.   He’s better than Lucas Cook but might trend into a Weideman type (bloke you wish your daughter marries but wouldn’t crash through a pack to grab the footy at all costs).

If you are expecting Jefferson to step up and address our fwd line issues you will be severely disappointed.

Will Verrall is the same size as Luke Jackson so he is tall enough for a ruck/forward, he and Jed Adams need big pre-seasons so we can see how good they are, when fit and healthy both came to us with injuries. !!

Didnt they have big preseasons this year??

Jefferson may  not make it in my limited view unless he gets seriously stronger and more mobile

Petty JVR Fritsch Pickett McAdam

Petracca Smith

ANB/Spargo

I would try Bowey at half forward (replace Spargo?) and I think Chandler was ok but didn't take his opportunities so should be seen as depth in 2024.

Top 5 above are locks i reckon

Where does Smith play? He has done nothing wrong imo

HF - Pickett, JVR, McAdam

F - Fritsch, Petty, ???

McAdam won't ever be picked ahead of ANB unless Goody had time off for injury illness or any thing else requiring rest.

I’d look at this guy as stock

he isn’t Jeremy Cameron t lynch etc

We can afford him

he is behind Luke Jackson and Darcy at Freo

he is a fwd who evolved to be a ruck not other way round

As a forward?

Probably not. I meant on the backline as a third tall mainly but might share with Tommo depending upon the brutes in the opposition.

I also believe ( and hope ) Disco could be skilled enough to mind smaller flankers. Time will tell.

No Kent both Adams and Verrall missed most of the preseason Verrall in fact missed half the season with a pelvis fracture.

T-Mac stays on just as depth and to help develop the new lot IMO.

Petty will have to go fwd but i think his best position is a Key defender and when May retires i think that is where he will be.

Smith unfortunately doesn't have the footy smarts, he has the athleticism but we have seen once he half cements his spot in the side and teams actually but some time into him he isn't good enough to work through it.  Great Sub though!

I think our Fwd for the future is:

Fritsch, JVR, Kozzy

ANB, Jefferson, Chandler,  Bench - (Spargo)

We also have Moniz-Wakefield in the reserves.  The only think is Jefferson is still 18 months away from AFL standard, so we need something in the meantime to help out which could be where Petty comes in, and a big reason they are telling Tommo he is required (to allow Petty to play forward)

We also have McAdam coming in which im not happy about but some more depth in that area.

Bowie stays as a back for mine, i think we will see rivers move into the midfield next year which means Salem will get his role back which Rivers took over this year and Bowie is surprisingly good 1v1.  If Rivers leaves the backline we need that class in Bowie back there.

Smith kicked 3 goals straight and had one taken away from him from Kozzie's stupidity.

What do you mean he doesn't have the smarts?

He's locked into our 22 if he continues this form and applies tackling pressure.

He is the one you would want, It would take 2x first rounders to prize him away, plus he is a WA boy.

Hows smiths career been?  Weid kicked 3 in a final too.

If he continues this form sure,  but in his 6 years at the club he has shown he can't do that.

He has shock factor and catches teams off guard, once they put some time into him he has shown he can't work through it.  42 games in 6 years is a pretty good indication of that. 6 of which he was sub.

On the weekend he kicked three goals, kicked 2 and Kossie screwed one up for him before half time.  After Halftime Carlt made a change and put someone on him,  he had 1 more disposal for the rest of the game, a half of football and one disposal.  Didn't touch it in the last quarter.

In fairness to Smith he's been completely played put of position his whole career down back.

It's only this year the coaches decided to wake up and realise his athletic traits is best suited up forward.

he has played everywhere, and had a lot of opportunities to grab a spot.  I honestly think he is the perfect, he played some very good games in that position.  He isn't going to play ofer Fritsch and if we do get another key forward in we can't play 2 talls, Fritta and Smith

i hope he proves me wrong and becomes a solid forward for us but i can't see it and he when playing forward has been a player that gets in the road of others too.

Our Key forwards were generally pretty accurate this year, just a shame everyone took it turns being injured (or suspended in JVRs case)

Still plenty to build on from this  - Smith 11.4, BBB 11.4, JvR 28.9, Petty 12.1

In 2022 Tmac didn't play in our 2 finals. But Bbb did and managed only one goal for the whole series.

This year Bbb didn't play and Tmac did. Same return one goal for the whole series.

Do we delist them both?

Need to move on and find some younger talent. Asap.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
