PREGAME: Rd 18 vs Brisbane

Good to see Goody make changes to try to get our forward line functioning well. The 2 rucks hasn’t worked overall at least from a scoreboard perspective.

Having natural forwards leading and no resting ruck should in theory lessen the temptation to dump kick inside 50

Does put pay to the ‘what forward line problem?’ people…

We’re doing so well we have abandoned our dual ruck strategy (that the FD was banging on about last October) for at least a month* to accomodate a change to our forward setup.

*I guess he is at Casey however long it takes to learn forward craft…

Strange decision for mine…Max is looking quite banged up and McInerney is a physical ruckman could bash Max up without having Brodie to help out

Yep absolute carnage to unfold

Wasn't Hibbo supposed to be right this week? Would have liked him to pick up the dangerous Charlie.

Pretty sure they said at least 3 weeks to fully recover.  He would be right on the edge of that probably.

One week too early me thinks plus they usually like to give Hibb a run at Casey before coming in.

Certainly a surprise move to drop Grundy but I suppose they've decided to bite the bullet with something that just wasn't working

More of a surprise is the goal of the MC for Grundy to learn some forward craft at Casey?  Strikes me as being a bit late in the season to do that sort of thing

On one hand I find the whole thing a bit baffling but nevertheless, quite bold

Bottom line is if the change works (structurally) and we win, we'll take the win

It's a big game for us with a fair bit riding on the result

Brodie is on 193 games. I hope he plays his 200th this year. 🥹

Hibbo and Max are on 194. Barring anything unforeseen Max will play his 200th vs Hawthorn in round 23, our home game at the ‘G, which is also our BCNA Field of Woman match. Hibbo… who knows?

Langers plays his 149th game tomorrow night. His 150th will be next Sunday vs the Crows in our home game at the ‘G. That is, barring injury or being rested, managed, omitted, dropped, dumped, 86d, jettisoned, kicked to the kerb or in any other way not there. 😁

There is acknowledgment of a milestone on tomorrow’s banner, but it’s not a player. It’s the 500th game of John Stanaway (father of Clint) who is a trainer and has been with the MFC since the 1990’s. This probs explains why Clint is a diehard Dees fan. He’s a cheer squad favourite and was actually in the cheer squad growing up.

Oh and lil Spargypants is on 95 games. Nibs is on 144. It’ll be great to see them celebrate their milestones in five and six weeks (respectively) for the obvious reasons but also to annoy the “fans” who bag them week in and week out. Cheers Big Ears 🥳 🍻 😂

Wow, Spargo 95, that seems to have gone by fast.

I'd think the Grundy omission is 60% for a look at a different structure and 20% to give Max a proper full game in the ruck to find his mojo and 20% to give Brody a rest

Strikes me a little like JVRs recent omission. Sure, he wasn't in hot form, but the FD took a look at something different and in doing so freshened up a key player

Brisbane have come in slightly post teams release, but @binman, you said this was relatively normal a few weeks back.

So the bookies certainly have us favourites.

I wonder if Dunstan will be the sub...

Big call to leave Max to ruck solo against McInerney, especially off two 6-day breaks. Max should know his capabilities - and would have been consulted about this - so I assume he's up for it. 😬

On Grundy, coming off two major injuries and 12 months out, playing for a new club and in a different role, I think he's had a reasonable year. Credit to him and the medical/fitness staff to get him this far unscathed. I expect he'll be better next year.

JVR comes in for either Gawn or Grundy. 2 half ruckman/ half forwards is not what the team need. We need a bonafide forward and JVR can provide ruck assistance.

Probably 1 or 2 others made a similar suggestion but you called it.  Kudos

Mind you, they were never going to drop the captain so JVR for Grundy was the move

Is there any chance we name Schache as the sub? Strong VFL form and can play both ends. If BBB is off, he can replace him. If we lose a key back he can cover there. If Max is struggling, we can sub a small and he can ruck. I know we have more often than not gone for the ‘utility type’ as sub, but l feel we have enough mids to cover spots. I’d at least consider it

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
