Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Schache is extremely fortunate to be still on the list.  Perplexing decision by all within the FD.

What's perplexing about it? He is coverage and on low $...and has a contract.  It's not even slightly perplexing.

You can't delist everyone you think is a bit average every post season.

Sometimes you keep people on, because they have been in the system for a long time, they know the grind, they adhere to training protocols and they're good club folk.

He’s a list clogger we can’t afford to have Harmes or Grundy on the list because we won’t have the 2 picks we need they have to go. So when people say we have the upper hand we don’t because we can’t afford to hang on to them all because we won’t trade Tomlinson and we gave another year to Schache

A bit average at VFL level for most of the season is a generous assessment EO.

Towards the end he fell off a cliff.

Unless we're intending to have him as some sort of cover / chop out for Max as sub or off the bench then i don't see the need.  That very opportunity presented itself in the SF but where was he?

So if he isn't there for those sort of scenarios, and we have to assume he isn't as Simon showed us that by his own inaction, then he's merely clogging the list for another potential talent.  And potentially getting in the road of existing young TF talent umder development at Casey such as Jeffo.

Sure, if we hadn't recruited Fullarton i might understand the reasoning in terms of experience and clubman assistance at VFL level as you're suggesting.

Regardless Jeffo (and even JVR if he ends up back at Casey for short stints) has that in spades with the likes of Macca & BB already spending plenty of time down their in 23 and likely to do so at stages in 24.

Were Schache a young JVR / Jeffo type rookie i get it.  Or a proven performer servant of the club like a Macca or BB.  He doesn't fit either end of that and has had plenty of chances.  He's hardly setting any sort of club land example playing average or worse games at Casey to the rookies around him imv.

I'm sure he's a nice fella and the FD must have had a reason.  Good luck to him.  But would love to know what their reasoning was .  Especially after the Fullarton news.

Trade demands have now reached ridiculous levels.  On Koschitzke:

"...out-of-contract 23-year-old has asked for a trade to Richmond, with the Tigers tipped to offer a late selection for the former No.52 draft pick who has kicked 54 goals from 48 career matches.

But despite playing him just 12 times this past season the Hawks are asking for a pick around 25, according to multiple reports. Richmond has picks 27, 48 and 66.

The Hawks are set to replace Koschitzke with Gold Coast’s Mabior Chol but are willing to offer a future third-round pick for the ex-Tiger.

Hawthorn had offered Koschitzke a one-year deal at as little as $150,000, but after offering Chol four years with a trigger for a fifth, according to the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph.

My summary:  Koschizke, who has played only half the games his season, is offered a one year deal at $150k and they want a mid second round pick but will only offer a future 3rd for a guy they have offered 4/5 years...

I know it is Hawthorn's opening ambit but it is a great way of losing credibility.

As an aside, for those that think all AFL players are highly paid take note of the offer to Koschitzke!!

It's perplexing because the match committee didn't have the confidence to select him when a like for like player in JVR was suspended. We named him as sub and then didn't bring him on despite T Mac giving us donuts.

Schache is not a young kid. We should know his strengths and weaknesses by now. If we're not going to play him with all the injuries we had to KPFs, then why is he still on the list? Being cheap and a solid citizen doesn't cut it.

Two of the best young KPFs in Larkey and Mitch Lewis were drafted very late. If Schache rots at Casey for another year then I think his list spot is best used by taking a fly on a young kid or a State League player.

Let's stick with GMT for major events like this. Less confusing.

I don't actually get what's being talked about in this part of the conversation but would 24-hour-clock times help, too?

p.s. As to the rest of this thread's conversation, thanks posters; it's like an Advent calendar in October!

Desperately homesick and demanding to come home ey?

Or.

He's coming home, (for reasons you nor I have any idea about).

And he's 'requested' a trade to Collingwood or has nominated them as his club of choice, as all players have the right to do.

Ahhh sounds so different when you don't exaggerate.

Or how about the media be clear and concise in their communication to the public.

One section are saying that he has personal issues that require him to come home while others are saying that he wants to specifically play for Collingwood.

If he has personal issues that require him to come home, then why is he only nominating the one club? Wouldn't he have a list of Melbourne based clubs that he would like to play for as a contingency plan rather than putting all his eggs in the Collingwood basket who may not be able to satisfy Fremantle with a trade.

So again, I ask is he coming to Melbourne due to personal reasons, or does he want to play for a team right in the flag window?

No chance he is worth pick 25.

Not saying he has to kick the average of 1 to 2 (1.5) every match Jnr.   What i'm saying is if he isn't at least kicking a goal (minimum) in say 3 out of 5 then what else is he bringing to the table and that his second half last season was a long way off the level.  Consistency is key at AFL level if we're going to keep up and/or edge ahead of the best clubs.

Difficult posi to play i get it but there's always room for improvement and we can't have players going missing for large chunks of a season.  Goody did say we need to be uncompromising yes?  And part of his mantra at he end of 2020 was "ruthless".  I assume that's still in the mix?

You do understand that the way we play has a significant bearing on the ability to score goals? At the start of the year we were attacking heavily through the corridor.

The club collects GPS data on every player. They know who is running hard. The rewards as a fwd can be tenuous. You can do 20 sprint leads and the ball is not kicked to you for example

It is probably the hardest position on the ground to play consistently. Its why many don't succeed

So WC trade 1 for 2, 14 and 20 and get Curtin, plus 2 others and Roos get Reid and whoever else they want after Curtin goes.

Clarko's last statement on AFL help as Hawk's Coach was, it should be scrapped. Suppose it depends on what club you are coaching at the time.

James Frawley (aged 26) compo for FA to move to Hawks got us Angus Brayshaw. 👏👏👏

Frawley had been an All Australian, three times in All Australian squad, twice represented Australia in international rules, twice in top 5 in MFC B&F including runner in 2010.

Mckay is not within a country mile of the player Frawley is/was at the same stage.

AFL handouts to Kangas is transparent bias and favouritism to a high degree.

This is not only a rort for North, it is also a rort for Essendon who the AFL have helped out by allowing them to offer McKay a package which North would have matched if the FA compensation had been appropriate. Which also illustrates; does anyone in their right mind thing Essendon would have traded a top-3 pick to get McKay? Or even their current top 8?

So now not only has every club had its second round and later picks moved back two places (North's compensation pick AND the 'future' compensation pick North got which has since traded its way to Port) but now also everyone's first round pick has been bumped back one slot.

I mean, can we all at least have the 150 draft points as compensation, to use next time a F/S etc comes up?

F'ing ridiculous.

Such bad governance. This is 'rule by decree' stuff.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
