Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Since he got the gig at ESPN, this bloke really has lost the plot, particularly when it comes to Melbourne. He did get potted by Demon fans (and others) on a couple of occasions on bigfooty last year over some of his views.

He’s entitled to his opinion so we’ll cop his E classification which ignores the fact that we retained two F1s & F2s but I’m not sure about the view that Jefferson has to find the football more often to become a consistent key forward. He was one of the top goalkickers overall and he showed on the biggest stage at the National Championships that he can find the ball and kick goals.

His assessment doesn’t appear to cover the rookie draft anyway.

If anyone’s inconsistent then it’s old mate Knightmare. He chops and changes every month with his power rankings. Bags us for picking Adams with his injury history but North still get an A despite drafting George who had two major injuries in 2022 and probably won’t play till 2024.

Chris Dorre is Knightmare.

Jefferson averaged 9.5 disposals at NAB league and 8.8 at Under 18's. He did hit the scoreboard, but got plenty of cheap ones mixed in that 7 goal effort especially. He will have to find more of the ball. He's not a home run pick at 15, although, there were hardly too many options jumping off the page. If you have to give it a grade I don't mind that it doesn't grade all that highly.

I'm not entirely sure what we were meant to get graded for with the Adams pick. It was small flankers and speculative talls by our pick. And he played 9 Colts games, 2 National champs games and a seniors game this year. Not exactly like he didn't play.

Basically there is no real science in recruiting just watching matches or filmed vision and a gut feel by most recruiters because none have a crystal ball to tell the future of these young men.

Sure there perfomances at U18 level have a bearing but when a young players gets drafted injuries can cruel his development and his career al la Luke Molan.

Those people who rate the selections do so with a very narrow focus on the clubs who get Father-Sons with high rating al la Brisbane whilst clubs like the MFC just get selections which are not at the pointy end of the Draft.

If in 10 years time Oliver Sestan, Will Verrell, Jed Adams and Matthew Jefferson become 200 game players for the MFC and win multiple premierships then people will rate this crop as an A+.

Every time a recruit walks into an AFL club he has the opportunity to become a Clayton Oliver/Nick Daicos/Christian Petracca/Jeremy Cameron/Max Gawn provided he has the potential, willingness to work hard, mental toughness and the luck with injuries.

Player development is so important and coaches like Mark Williams are the reason players become better and better because they challange players both physically and mentally to better themselves.

The issue at Melbourne for years wasn't that we couldn't identify talent, it was that we didn't have the structure in place, both within the playing group AND within the coaching staff to develop the players. Now, a player comes to Melbourne and has to do his time in the seconds. They don't get a game in the senior team until they are absolutely ready, which does drive some of us mad, but is the right way to do it.

Rumor has it that the other teams never turned up for the games against him. But also note rest of his teammates also kicked 10 each.

I got the feeling JT has selected Oliver as a replacement of Jake Melksham/Alex Neal-Bullen in the long run.

Who replaces Oliver?

Out of interest who does he barrack for and can he point to the place on this doll where the MFC hurt him.

Out of interest what did he have to say about Oliver, Kozzi and that Freemantle player when we picked them?

The whole rating of pick performance is pretty silly given you cant know for a couple of years, sure you can rate the ability to trade into better positions etc but not the actual outcome, its just daft to pretend you can.

Hidden gem indeed, from those highlights

he does not juggle a mark , one grab.
is quick to handball or choose an option.

moves around the ground and gives off to better positions

we might have pinched one. Will impress at Casey anyway.

If he develops into a very good player you can bet the AFL will commence an investigation into the circumstances on how we picked him. The AFL rail road will be bought in and cart off a couple of years of our draft picks for daring to buck the AFL created pathway.

In the brief glimpses he certainly seems to have good, fast decision making.

He was critical of all of those selections. Particularly Kozzie as he was of low output - said we would have been much better taking.... Jack Mahoney. Says it all really. He also declared Lukosius the greatest draft pick ever made.

He's a very dedicated, overly verbose nuffie who lacks any real feel for what traits are important at AFL level. And a Collingwood fan to boot.

Fair play for getting himself into ESPN as he has been doing phantom drafts for a long time, well before it was hip - but it also says a bit given this history that he's not progressed further & is still bignoting himself on BigFooty with the other Youtube heroes.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
