Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I said nothing about courageous changes this week pal. That ship has sailed and won't be back on port until next season when apparently we a looking at getting an aging injury prone ruckman who,as good as he may be ,isn't good enough for a hot young team without a first choice ruckman to want to keep.

Perhaps that's your view of courageous?

We need another powerful running mid

We  really need some one with the potential to recharge our " bottom six" because apparently there isn't anyone waiting in the wings  or surely when we had the the chance at 10 zip we would have trialed them ( sort of like the freedom of Geelongs ground).

This week I accept they may just shuffle the deck chairs  and it may be enough for a 50/50 game given that we last year we were the best team going around.

Bowey in sounds like a possibility

Next year is time for a new attitude.

Has the FD got that ability? We have most of the attributes in place if they have the courage.

If Tmac is still too risky I’d give Joel Smith a crack at Melksham’s role.

The way Melksham carries himself on the field is so depressing to watch.

And Bedford for ANB.

Bedford, for sure. Pacey and dangerous up forward. Knows where the goals happen to be. Joel is a good consideration but it appears that after injury, he has been left off the dance card too long. With the Melk, he certainly can be a talent but it appears to be related to the roll of the dice. I wish we had a mosquito fleet in place up forward. The talls just ain't doing it for us.

I just dont get the Gawn forward thing.  He's a ruckman, one of the best in the game.  He isn't, never was, and never will be, a viable forward.  He is a ruckman, and kicks like one.

Why not try JVR?  Really, why not?

I watched the kid from FREO who has only played two games kick multiple goals, and has a similar game to JVR.   Why JVR wasn't given a couple of games prior to finals amazes me.

When did Spargo cop that knock to the throat & who did it?

Probably Franklin, he's always flapping his arms about appealing for a free or protesting.

The medical report states that Spargo has bruised vocal cords and cannot talk. I don't think you can be considered to play if you cannot talk, there is only so much pointing and sign language one can do. A friend who knows TMac has told me TMac has put his hand up to playing he believes he is right to go. I believe we definitely need another tall marking target up forward.

My left-field selection would be to play Jackson on the wing a la Mathew Richardson in his day and similar to Blicavs. Indeed Geelong are happy for both ruckman, Stanley & Blicavs to be at the contest!

Should have played when we took him to Perth as an emergency and against Norf. Most clubs blood several or more new debutants every season for regeneration purposes. We have only debuted Daniel Turner for one game. Dunstan doesn’t count and Chandler also deserved at least a full game somewhere. Out of form players or injured are not being dropped or are being replaced with fringe players that have been around a while. It’s not ideal particularly since we have been going stale for most of the second half of the season.

Given the weather forecast (showers and most likely in the afternoon and evening), surely TMac only comes in for a tall. There's no way we can go TMac, Ben Brown and a resting Gawn in our forward 50 - the ball will bounce back like it's just hit a trampoline.

Harmes in the middle to tag Lachie Neale, Brayshaw back to the wing. Tracc to play majority half forward if he is 80% fit. Dunstan onto the bench. Freo debuted a forward kid last Saturday so I would be tempted to give Van Rooyan a crack up forward. Max to play majority first ruck and stay behind the ball. LJ not sure what to do with him, he is not doing a lot.
Anyway it’s all academic, knowing Goody he will trust his system and go in unchanged if players are deemed fit.

Having seen both finals in Melbourne last weekend pace is a serious factor. Would like to see Bowey back. I subscribe to the sentiment that radical changes will be an off-season focus

I agree pace is a factor.  Both ways ...ie away from congestion / opponent and closing speed.

If you want pace i reckon Bedford has to be close to the quickest on our list or at least as quick as the likes of Hunt & Kozzy.

I'd love to see him in this week for ANB.

If Max was a tad younger and/or fully fit you could possibly go in with just Max and swap LJ for JVR.  Push BB more time playing higher up to help out down the line in a CHF type role, JVR playing mostly deep.

Tom said yesterday he probably needs another game with Casey before being considered, so sounds like he has been told not this week.

It is a big risk to play him in a do or die final, when he was in average at best form prior to injury, is already slower than the Titanic and is coming off a very very serious injury.

I think playing JVR would be less risky, and we know the coaching department won't pull that trigger.

I think that makes sense - he looked a long way off being ready to make an impact at AFL level in his one and only Casey game back from serious injury

My god we have to win this Friday; such pressure on the club to at least get to a PF.

Love it!

They will have to get used to that pressure with that midfield and backline for the next 4 years or so until May and Gawn depart.

Now, for the rest of 2021, the changes need not be personnel; we need a change of mindset with the footy and be quick on turnover and take the extra second that we have with our bulls in the middle to get it cleanly out of the stoppage and not just to another contest 30m away.

This Goodwin can get us back to - but he has to get us to a PF to show we have improved.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
