Those calling for JVR are that far off the mark.

I'll take him if he shows the hunger and decent form as Disco today.

Can't be much worse than Weideman or M Brown

Yeah but a 9 day then 10 day break means you can’t really plan a few days away from the club to refresh mentally. Teams with 12-14 days will often take 3 days or so away from the club before getting back into the work for the balance of their bye

6/7 days to train prep is plenty enough coach.

They need at least 2 to 3 days off to recover & freshen up for a tough back half i would think.

Sparrow has been poor for a number of games now. Butchers the ball continually. He needs a spell

It’s not about individual players. Most of these players are premiership players. It’s about not following the game plan. The players are kicking sideways, hand passing galore until the forward line is absolutely flooded with opposition players. Mostly. Or kicking the ball always to Gawn in the field. He’s triple teamed by opposition players.

I'd forget the 'premiership players'  stuff. It is in the past. We  met a couple of weakened and vulnerable sides in the prelim and GF last year. And everything went right for us. A team of 3 or 4 great players and 3 or 4 very good ones, and the rest good to handy. Are they good enough to go again, in a year where everything is NOT going right?

Rivers was excellent yesterday. He will come in... maybe for Turner (who I thought showed he can succeed at the level today)

Dunstan (also unstoppable yesterday) for Sparrow

May comes in for M Brown

The rest is dependent on injuries (Petty again, Lever, Max)

If Max has to rest there is only one viable replacement (if he is fit)

May owes us big time. Mitch Brown & Daw not the answer. It's soooo annoying that after last week Mitch got another run. Maybe inject more youth with Laurie in and Neal- Bullen to find form. We can't have so many HFFs not hitting the scoreboard.

Do we know that Daw (if fit) is not an answer?  I think we do know about Mitch Brown.

The coaching teams will have their ideas about JVR - what little I have seen of him on TV he shows endeavor and attack, which we appear to be lacking.  He would have to offer more than MB and SW in their current form.  I believe he has played senior football in WA ??

How long does Turner have to sit out for? For those calling for Weid to come hoping for him to make a difference, well good luck with that.

In May, Rivers, Weiderman, Dunstan,  Bedford

Out Turner, Sparrow, Harmes, M Brown, Spargo

Brayshaw back into mid rotation

In May, Bedford, Dunstan, Weideman. Outs Turner, M Brown, Sparrow, Spargo.

Hopefully Dunstan adds some run and carry and provides a handball receive option for Clarry and Viney to offload. We just seem to be one handball or shortkick option as we move into our forward 50. So often on transition we run out of passing options around the wing and have no option but to kick long.

Our small forwards aren’t crumbing goals off the ground, aren’t applying enough tackle pressure and aren’t kicking goals. Bedford to provide a bit more speed and defensive tackling along with Kossie and hope ANB gets his form back.

Turner has 12 days between now and next game so won’t be out with concussion protocols

Bears will slaughter us the way we played today - stagnant ball movement and atrocious disposal will play right into their hands

we’re going to get slaughtered. I’d almost forgotten what this feeling was like.

We are missing run. In the 3rd quarter we kept bombing it long, and Cox or Moore intercepted every entry. But no-one was moving. We need Brayshaws attack further up the ground. He is great. Give him the money. I don't think we can win another premiership without him.

The players I would consider are Rivers, Hunt, Baker and Moniz-Wakefield. Keep Hibberd in and free up Hunt to be more attacking. Rivers has done a good stretch in the twos and deserves a recall, he or Brayshaw would be a better option than Harmes on the wing, Baker has built a better tank and a strong body and Moniz-Wakefield could be a classy HFF, something we are missing.

Take Trac out of the centre and put in another ball getter to work with Clarry and Viney.

Its hard to say Goodwin should stop trusting in players, coz thats been a cornerstone to his success as a coach, but there are too many fringe players gone backwards from last year. ANB, Harmes and Sparrow should be dropped to find a bit of form and fitness.

I'm a bit panicky but gee we look awful. I think we've fallen off a cliff and haven't hit the bottom yet. Might be very hard to turn around.

Trac will return in excellent form after the bye. I can feel it in my waters.

Dude’s been getting over a flu and those things can knock you around for a while without sufficient rest. He’s got enormous mental strength and when the physical catches up, he (along with Langdon who also will benefit hugely from the bye) will take us back to the top.

We can't do a fire sale, but we have a LOT of players out of form, making poor decisions or butchering the ball.

Absolutely agree about Brayshaw back on the wing. Perhaps a reset to back 6 of May, Lever, Petty, Salem, Bowey, Rivers.

But I am struggling to find like-for-like replacements.

OUT: ANB, Sparrow, Kozzie, M Brown,

IN: May, Rivers, van Rooyen, Bedford, (but this is replacing forwards with backs).

Honestly the game against Brisbane feels like a finals Game already, elimination game.

Lose and it's 4 in a row at the MCG! Can't see ourselves recovering from that considering the trend we are in.

Win and we are back to the top and with a solid foundation to start a really tough home stretch.

I will.still believe in the boys but I really need to see some more fight in them!

I’d like emphatic wins

leave empathy at the door

I was facepalmed by a few when I suggested this a few weeks back. Glad people are now seeing it. His hand balling is of particular concern. He needs a spell. I’d put Dunstan in ahead of him

Disco Turner was great in the first until he got got carried off the ground.  We have the bye so leaves him time under concussion protocols. He stays for me.

I would consider switching Hunt forward in place of Spargo. We lose composure but gain a bit more x-factor.

Hunt kicked 31 goals in 27 games over 2019 & 2020.

Spargo has 23 goals in 38 games over 2021 & 2022.

Ah yes, moving our worst decision maker into a position where we're currently making terrible decisions, replacing our best decision maker... That will help!

Next game is 11 days so he is out.

Pity, thought he was going ok on debut.

Would help if the best decision maker could get a kick.

Despite the knocks on Weid, if it’s to make a difference from what Mitch Brown offers which is absolutely zero, then I’d say he has a pretty good chance.

Agree with others who have suggested Brayshaw back to the wing. We need his defensive efforts higher up the ground and Rivers can take his spot on the flank. Jordon to the bench and playing a more defensive role in the midfield rotation. May a direct swap for Turner and Weid for Brown. Not sure why I prefer Weid, maybe he's a fractionally stronger mark but neither will kick bags so we are at the bottom of the barrel regardless. We just need to pick one and stick with them.

When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
