Weed has done himself no favours by taking John Coleman's number 10.

Now that's drawing a long bow!  Coleman last played about 70 years ago.  :D

Maybe, but they did name the goal kicking award after him.

took us 55 years to find an injury free, sane, high quality footballer to wear 31.

How many people today do you reckon would have the faintest clue what number Coleman wore?

There have been eight players since him and before Weid to wear the number ten at Essendon.

It's like saying that Brodie Grundy has done himself no favours by taking Fred Fanning's number six.

Phuuuuuuuuuuk. Good point. Now I'm worried. BG will never kick 18 in a game now.

To be fair we only took 2 contested marks, both maxy.

I couldn't believe that stat. I had ti check again coz it didn't seem right. The dogs had nine by way of comparison.

I think that was more a reflection of game style and being more direct and quicker in transition to prior years where we relied a lot more on contested marks.

We monstered them in i50 marks 17:7 by better kicking inside 50, which is a great sign against a strong(ish) opposition.

Luke Jackson will be a star of the comp barring injury.

One off game does not a young tall make.

Based on what evidence? he has been in the system for 3 years (4 preseasons) and really has not strung together 2-3 great quarters let alone games.

And please spare me the GF 15 minutes in the 3Q - yes he done his job well, but there were at least half a dozen others that also deserve the plaudits for changing the game on that great night of football.

Talls take longer- i get that- but they tend to show some solid form in a number of games as they develop more consistency in their game. LJ right now, is nowhere near what people are expecting of him, maybe that'll change and he'll come of age, but the longer this goes on, the less im inclined to believe much will come of him.

Max Gawn debuted in 2011 and it wasn't until Corey Enright's 300th down at Geelong in 2015 that he monstered a game (it was his 3rd game for the year) and he took off from there. So it's not to say that progression/development is necessarily linear.

Might be important to note that Gawn did 2 knees in that period.

I couldn't give a rats about LJ.  Saw him play yesterday and felt nothing.

we got some picks back and Grundy is an excellent replacement

He's just another player now. Still has a more special place than most but we concentrate on the present in this game and he is presently at another club that I couldn't give a rip about. Focusing on what's in our four walls.

I just saw this thread title and this (brilliant) song came to mind.

Perhaps when Freo come to G, and assuming Luke plays, dees fans can collectively sing Farewell Lukey Jackson to this tune:

LJ might be finding he is not surrounded by good players like he was at the MFC. He might have to do a lot more himself without the feed he was used to previously.

Exactly what I was thinking when watching him yesterday.

Doesn’t Have Clarry, Trac and Viney at his feet anymore.

900k x 7 years for a young bloke barely out of his teens.

Freo are a joke.  What CV?  A few minutes of glory in the GF aided by Trac ,Oliver and Gawn. Done little since.  McVee had a terrific 1st gamer  doing the hard work.

I'll take him over Jacko.

And he was caught having a smoke in the car on the way to training. Sometimes it takes longer for the penny to drop for some more than others.

I personally wish Jacko well. He’s what, 21 years old? If his family were pressuring him to come home then that’s got to weigh on a young bloke and I don’t really feel any ill will towards him for leaving. He did after all spend all his time since being drafted in covid land which let’s be honest, saw a lot of us especially in Victoria not being able to see family members. I know I’m still overcoming that whole period of time so I can only imagine what it would be like for a 19-20 year old to be able to perform and stay in a premiership winning side whilst all that madness went on.

I hope he is able to fulfil his potential as he’s barely into his 20’s and now he’s going to be under so much pressure to perform in a 2 team town.

Give the kid some slack and move on. All the best Jacko.

How lucky Jackson was to have this man as his mentor and captain. Must be learning heaps of ruck craft from Alex Pearce 🙄

    GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs Carlton

The Blues season is on the line and their captain and coach have been in the firing line all week. If the Dees cough this one up the media's crosshairs will do a 180 and will surely be directed at the Demons who have only won 13 games from their last 25 outings. This is a must win game for the Melbourne Football Club too.

DOCTORS AND LAWYERS by The Oracle

We’ve seen it all before.   Club in turmoil. Coach under pressure. Club President caught up in a tax scandal. Club board not seeing eye to eye with one board member resigning amid questions about whether he was pushed or did he jump? Unrest bordering on hysteria among the supporters. Team dropping from undefeated after four rounds to 13th after ten. Allegations of favoured treatment of players. Players out of form, forwards with the kicking yips, a bruising injury list with some facing

WRITING ON THE WALL by Whispering Jack

The Narrm Football Club found a second way in the space of 12 months less a day to unexpectedly lose a home game against Walyalup on Saturday afternoon. The equivalent match of last year has been described as Melbourne’s “ground zero” of 2022 where things went wrong for the club after a long run of wins that included its 57 year drought-breaking premiership triumph. Unfortunately for the Demons, the 2023 version was a case of deja vu with the Dockers overcoming a half time deficit and runn

    CRUSHED by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons were dealt a crushing blow to their hopes of repeating last year’s premiership glory when they capitulated to the Werribee Tigers in the final term of what was for the first three quarters a riveting game of football. The Demons struck early with the opening two goals of the match but the Tigers fought back to level the scores by mid-term. From there on until the middle of the last quarter, there was never more than two goals separating the teams although the home side look
