Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I’m sick of hearing about Caleb Bloody Daniel. Yes he has great vision and awareness, yes he’s a reliable kick, but he’s a reliable 11 metre kick. Most of kicks don’t go the required 15 metres, and I personally don’t see him as damaging as some of the other back flankers.

Im also sick of hearing that the Dogs have the best midfield, on Saturday there’s a couple of slackers that go by the names of Oliver, Trac and Viney who I think will put this myth to rest.

I am praying we run someone on Caleb Daniel's hip on Sat. You cannot let handball recieve players cut you up in a GF...must give it to him physically.

I'm sick of hearing about how brave the underdog Bulldogs have been to get this far.  And how they've had to travel from Tassie to Brisbane to Adelaide and now to Perth.

No one has gone back and reminded them that it was self inflicted and that had they not lost the last game despite leading by 15 points late in the last quarter they would have had the same "trip" that the Demons have had.

But it doesn't suit Bevo's narrative of us against them.  I just wish someone would bring it up at a press conference.

I'm over non-supporters trying tell me stuff about MFC.

"1954 was the last time you won a premiership".  Wrong.  It was 1964.

"You got smashed the last time you played in a grand final"  Yes.  I'm aware, I was there.  Was there for 1988 too.

And I'm not embarrassed to say I have zero sense of humour about Saturday.  Once it's all done and over that'll be different but right now - it's deadly serious.

This.  This 'hard done by' narrative is always given to them.  That's why I can't stand the club or their supporters.  You won a premiership in 2016, you ain't hard done by.

Technically, it’s an acronym. 😉

If it's pronounced as a word and not spelt out (for example, FBI) it's considered a word. See 'radar'. Plus, it's in the dictionary so I'm counting it as a word. 🤧

1 game in four weeks, when the reality is on grand final day it will be our third game in 5 weeks and their fourth.

Great summary Loges.  This is the big red herring.

Dogs by the same logic have played 1 game in 21 days. Again, this isn't true.

The agreed best conditioner in the AFL, Darren Burgess, will have addressed this,

and in the first few minutes on Saturday night , at least one commentator will say"..Gee the Dees are really on tonight..",  or "... this break seems to have had no effect on the Dees...", or "...Gee I think the longer break has actually helped the Dees..."

and finally "....gee don't the Dogs look tired, and keath has just re-done his hamstring...",  and "...Stefan Martin could sure have used a few more runs before the GF the way Max and Luke are running him around the park..."

or some other similiar bleedingly obvious cliches.

This might be a repetition of complaints against perceptions of elitism, but I essentially want a realization that those stereotypes belong in a bygone era of a completely different Melbourne (the city, not the club).

I appreciate that there are links to certain historical anti-egalitarian aspects of Victoria with our club. The MCC is itself an offshoot of the Melbourne Club. No doubt we did provide troops to the war effort (both 2 and 1), but I’d also suggest that a lot of our players were commissioned into the officer class or air force pretty quickly. If you understand the class dynamics of WWI in particular and world history of the time as well, you can understand why that was the case. I think the fact our golden era is associated with an time of deeply entrenched cultural conservatism, fogeyism and conformity doesn’t help either.

But by the way media talk about things, you would think that Collingwood and other ‘working class clubs’ are still run by  blokes like Ted Parker from the local pie factory ala ‘The Club’. I guarantee you that ALL clubs have links to the big end of town in one form or another. Hell, while the Dogs have a female president, she’s the head of the Walt Disney Company in Australia; a studio that gobbles up intellectual property rights like most people consume Doritos and was founded by a bloke who supposedly had his head cryogenically frozen after death. Look at how Collingwood (who at one stage were sponsored by Emirates Airlines and Rotten Ronnies; two tribunes of working class life) dole out voting rights for their board meetings and tell me that’s not exclusionary. I could provide more examples but we’d be here all day.

Meanwhile, we contribute money to help Top End communities, helped found the AFLW, reach out into multicultural communities in the CBD and beyond, and find ourselves as one of very few clubs that voluntarily shed an asset base which produced a predatory revenue stream. Yet people still think that our club and all of it’s supporters are some hideous mutation of Sebastian from ‘Brideshead Revisited’, Prince George from Blackadder and Charles Foster Kane.

I've now got an image in my mind that's going to be hard to remove of Hugh Laurie prancing around with a teddy bear he calls 'Rosebud'.

That's my workday ruined.

Complete the quadrella by having him driving around in a Range Rover with one of those little navy and red membership stickers, and you may never have a good night’s sleep again. 😄

Being told the MFC will never win another premiership because of what I wear to the game - I fail to see how adhering to the Long Room Dress Code impacts on the team's on-field performance.

Years ago I had the pleasure of meeting legendary Demon stalwart Shaun "Duxy" Dux (see below) at the Cricketers Arms when we were all having Won Beer* after a then rare win (against GWS). Duxy stated that he thought that my jacket, collar and tie was part of what was holding the MFC back. However, Duxy did have the good grace to concede my point that if the players were all looking up in the stands to see what I was wearing then they really didn't have their minds focused on the game anyway.

* Got home at 2am, wife was confused by my voicemail...she thought that I'd be home after one beer.

I love all the Range Rover, snow field, cheese platter gear. It's just harmless banter.

Now I am over them,   its been 20 years since I drove up to the snow, and not in a 4WD   it was a BMW 325 and mid week at that.

And if they mention the platter at least qualify the type of cheese and what glass of red wine goes with it.

And we do not just deserve to win this game.  Our players need to "turn up" for the hardest game of the year. And I think some of our supporters need too as well. We are good enough to win, its got nothing to do with the past 57 years, its all about this year and NOW.   Go Dees

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
