Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not sure whether smith or hibbo for May.   Hibbo tends to fumble and seemed to get in everyones way.  Smith had a good first half but then went missing after hibbo took him out.  Hibbo will struggle if he gets matched up on a quick opponent, but would have bulk for Danger.

As good as Smith was Id go for Hibbo.

Experience in finals is a very important.

With Tmac coming in this week our forward line will be quite menacing.

Bb has nine from the last three and seems to be growing in confidence.

Fritta is back to his best after a dry spell.

Trac has chipped in.

So Im hoping Kozzie fires up and we kick 100 plus again.

Gee he has been great. Your right you just never really know.

He has a lot to learn but you can only really do that with good players around you thats what good teams do bring one in and help them, having said that he has some limitations at the moment as I would not put him on a Dangerfield etc but give him time.

Rest Petracca, Oliver and lever. We won’t be playing at the mcg for finals anyway.

Immaterial where we play about resting. Got nothing to do with it and NO they should not be rested and all go for any awards they are up for plus fine tuning of our game.

I actually think Smith has real potential. He is not in contention for May's spot, he is competing for Hibbo's. I don't  have a strong feeling either way but I wouldn't be at all surprised if he gets another shot at it this week. He has amazing closing speed, I saw a couple of incidents where he had given his player seemingly too much space but then closed it down and got the spoil. He needs more game time to work on his positioning and settle with the others.

For me Sparrow for Viney is a no brainer. Sparrow looks lost out there, I suspect he will eventually pull it all together but there is no way we can take him into a final series.

If TMac is back then it should be for Milkshake who really just picks and chooses when to go too often.

My other question mark is around JJ at the moment. He just isn't playing with the same energy and flair that he was earlier in the season.

Just watched the injury report and seems McDonald and May only need to get through tomorrow main training session to play on the weekend.

And yet if the Dogs beat Port I wouldn’t be surprised if Tom is a late out.

Smith will be unlucky and come out for May.

I think your right on the money with Sparrow and Melksham.

It would be really interesting to see what happens is the bulldogs win on Friday night, would we suddenly be struck down with a lot of "soreness"?

Would be an incredibly luxurious position for us to be in! I feel dirty saying it, but c'mon doggies!

I wonder who Hawkins will "accidentally" knock out this week.

Absolutely hate the cats. I'd puke if I had to watch danger lift the cup. The bloke is a dead set [censored].

One of the historical keys to winning premierships is stability, particularly in defence. However May is a no brainer to be included at the expense of Smith, who by the way did his chances for inclusion at a later date no harm whatsoever. The rest stay as they are.

Viney comes in at the expense of Sparrow.

McDonald for Melksham.

Jordon replaces Van DenBerg as medical sub.

Harmes gets a lockdown role on Guthrie, while Viney goes head to head with Selwood and Petracca head to head with Dangerfield.

Gawn and Jackson will be critical to our success, first use to our mids will place enormous pressure on a depleted Geelong defence. It maybe not so obvious at the skinny GMHBA Stadium this week but will be evident in Perth during finals.

Bring it on!!!!

Yep, that's the likely changes.

Not sure melksham could be considered unlucky if he comes out though.

It wasn't like for like when Tmac came out against WC for Jordon so we can go smaller on a wet deck.
Going back to our usual 2021 line up it seems.

Not related to the above quote and response,
I have noticed a lot of posters saying players need/should get a rest cos the look tired.
The players get 6-7 days break from games, It's plenty of time to recover unless knocked around a bit, a big corky etc.
Players wont be rested for being "tired", players get rested if they are sore and have not been able to train at 100%.
ie: Salem, Tmac and May from this year.

Having a week off for "rest" when we might possible get a week off first week of finals is counterintuitive to progress of this side.

I agree with you although it would depend on how you differentiate between tired and fatigued. Seasoned players with several full pre seasons are always going to fair better towards the end of the season due to build up of match fitness over a period of time. As you say unless they are sore or have niggles rest is unnecessary and form continuity is important.

Younger players with less preseasons or limited ones will tend to fatigue towards the end of games more often especially in the back half of the year. It's definitely something to be cognisant of for us with quite a few key players under 22.

That being said I feel we've run out games relatively well the last month (West Coast being an abnormality). So as you say should't be a factor for us you would think.

Thanks for your response. Completely understandable with younger players/lack of pre seasons and fatigue, I think there could possibly be some mental fatigue for younger players too.

I agree and feel like we have run games out well.
I don't take much from the WC game post Lightning stoppage, it was a big benefit to WC as they were cooked by that time.

I’d agree with you Adam on Smith who I thought was excellent, but Goody wasn’t OTT with his praise for Smith in his post match presser. My take was he was disappointed with Smith cramping up in the 3rd and the lengths they had to go to to get him back out on the ground. I think he’ll be dropped for May.

We need May. We don't really need Spargo at the forward flank or 'roving' the area. I'd opt to retain Smith at the HF Flank with a licence to go for it, bigtime, but not interrupt existing forwards in the pack marking, if possible. Smith has some real talents that the Catty Putts would struggle with - probably have to divert their ruck strength (2 players) to contain a rampant forward able to run to space, all game. Smith's handball skills also would be in useful application - coz he does see 'space' and he does see 'leads to space'.

In... Majak !

It is tempting to put Majak in ... he'd be a good counter to several Cats who have pummeled us in the past (Blicavs and his sidekick). Majak may well give a few of out forwards some courage and some focus.

Would love to see SMith have a real go of it - but apparently he cramped up after the 3rd Q.  Not his fault - covid has made it tough for those not playing seniors.  But with May back there isn't a spot for him.  Can't see them throwing him forward when we already have Brown, Tmac, Jacko/Gawn and Fritsch - we're fine in the air and his run and skills surely are not going to push any of ANB, Kossie, Spargo etc out.

Hibbo's position will be interesting - I think he is best placed to play on the Dusty / Trac type that many teams have a version of these days.  But he does seem out of favour.

When Hunt is fit, does he take Bowey's spot back?

Will be very interesting to see the selections the next few weeks - some will be VERY stiff.

No way Bowey goes out for ANYONE! Bowey stays for the rest if his career for mine. HUNT will find a spot for sure so that leaves possibly Hibberd who has become fumbly or???

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
