Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why? I'm sick of his play.  Can't hit a target or shake a tackle.  Time to go

You haven't been watching. Three clear goal assists by lowering eyes and foot passing last two weeks. All after breaking from contests.

I'm usually on the conservative side when it comes to MRO and penalties, there's a lot we need to stamp out in the game. Not much in this though. Should be risk related. I'd rather someone wrestling with me put an elbow into me (would it be different if Viney held Collins' head down by his hand?) than took a wild swing with the pointy end. Will be back by finals at any rate. Whatever.

Can I point out that incidents are sent direct to the tribunal when they cannot be categorised under the gradings system.Misconduct has been used to report a variety of incidents. I suggest serious  was used here because there is an elbow lying across someones neck.

A recent direct to tribunal case got off involving a bump. This incident whilst I don't like it and it doesn't look good wasn't a strike, a trip, a kick or a bump to the head in play and therefore it is left to the tribunal to decide because the match review officer cannot define it.

A very dangerous thing - prolonged pressure to the neck with the elbow. Could have blocked oxygen to the brain.

Off the ball, lasted 4-5 seconds. He’s in trouble.

2 weeks minimum I’d reckon

Geeze we have some very average supporters.

You’re not wrong Demons11.

For some reason a lot of members have no love for Viney, if it was Gawn they would be screaming from the rooftops

Looks like most on here want him to get weeks

Only if his trachea is in the side of his neck. Nothing more than a bit of free chiropractic work. Collins could’ve moved at any stage

He’ll probably get a week.

His defensive pressure would be handy against the Eagles’ mids but it’s really not all that much to fret about. He was our worst player on the w/e (putting Sparrow aside).

I hope Jones comes in for him. He’ll be like an uncaged lion trying to grab his chance and would probably match Viney’s intensity.

Oxygen flows through blood. Trachea has nothing to do with it. People go unconscious in headlocks due to a lack of blood supply. Same issue that people are arguing here. Personally I think 5 seconds, not a huge issue. But still not a great look. If it was 1-2 seconds I doubt it'd even be looked at.

I'd expect a week for the optics and to serve as a warning for the rest of the comp.

I ain’t no doctor but I believe the Carotid arteries deliver oxygen to the brain. Located in the side of the neck

The old, Viney '...I'm tougher than you...' syndrome is apparently more important than getting on with the game for the sake of the Club and his teammates?

This is not mongrel as it should be. Poor effort.

Like that last sentence, and the deep meaning within - Jones may well be the best choice for short bursts from the bench to re-establish our ball control should it go missing.

Reckon we could mount an argument that Collins is pulling him down on him given he's pulling Viney down by the jumper with two hands.

Really can't see the big deal on this one tbh.

You really think prolonged, deliberate pressure to the neck off the ball is no big deal??

wow

Viney plays on the edge and that’s why most love him.   We need blokes like this and the tackle he makes on Collins is the perfect example of why he is so valuable to this side and will be one of our most important players come finals

Without sounding unreasonably dramatic, but it should be realised - by Jack Viney if no one else, grinding someone’s neck with your elbow right under the base of the skull is tempting injury to the vertebral artery, which can and often does cause an instant bleed to the brain. A mate of mine died 6 months ago from such a vertebral artery ‘dissection’, as did the cricketer Phil Hughes. What JV did, and deliberately, is beyond stupid.

Viney doesn’t engage in the wrestle until Collins pulls him down after the tackle. As soon as Viney lays the tackle, he’s ready for the next contest until Collins pulls And holds him down. Then Viney tries to get back up and he gets pulled back down again.
If he gets rubbed out, he’ll have a case to appeal.

There is also a structure called the carotid sinus in that vicinity which can when stimulated can slow the heart and even cause cardiac arrest. Very dangerous area to be fiddling with.

Just dumb; inconceivably stupid.

Nothing tough about laying into a guy who’s already lying on his back.  Nothing to gain, plenty to lose.

Shouldn’t even both getting on the plane.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
