Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I called it with BB last year when we were not having success. So did not wait until we had one average game to say it.

Big call to say his heart isn’t in it HFF. Based on interviews (particularly the open mike interview) he has done he comes across as smart and articulate. Definitely not someone whose only option to make a living is footy. Wouldn’t surprise me if he goes into media post career. There have been no whispers about attitude or application which is usually the case if someone isn’t putting it all in at training. I though his 3 games were serviceable (haven’t seen his last game for Casey where the consensus is he played terribly)

I reckon he’s just unfit. He’s had an injury interrupted 2020 and missed this preseason. I don’t think there are ulterior motives here.

Honestly it seems like Weid is invisible out there...

Does he have the worst leading patterns in the league? Almost always out of position

Yes to BBB for mine. Let's give him a shot

LAZY and over-regarded. Couldn't pull the skin off a custard.

Fair enough, although I did not say his heart is not in it, just said he has other priorities in life. Nothing wrong with that. yes unfit and not strong enough in upper body. My memory at Kangas was he was dominating in a straight line between CHF and the centre. His deadly long kicking made that a difficult match up. Maybe the game styles generally have changed and our style is not suiting him so far. I hope it works out for him. He is a nice guy and we need a target..

I think Benny will play and be given a decent  bock of games after the buy.  The major issue is when will he finally be ready to go assuming there is in fact a pre-season under way?

If and it's a.big if, we can get BB up and firing this could be the difference that takes us to a PF.

But there's also the issue of him finding form and everyone clicking with him in the team and visa versa.

BB is no slouch when he is in form and is exactly the extra tall / foil needed to play deep out of the goal square in conjunction with Tommy playing CHF.

BB has a great scoring record and is right up there in terms of goal kicking averages and accuracy (career wise).  Good players don't lose this ability overnight and if he gets AFL fit we'll put many lessor teams to the sword in this second part of the season and wallop some of the cellar dwellers.  Subject to....

Others improving their goal kicking accuracy also including....

Viney (40%),  Clarry (30%),  Kozzie (39%), Spargo (33%) & Tracc (39%).

BB is a must in once fully fit.

Our 3rd best goal kicking forward and 4th most accurate forward so far (on season averages).

Designated Forwards

Goal averages...

1.  Fritschkrieg   2.3

2.  T-Mac  1.8

3.  Ben Brown  1.7

4.  Kozzie  1.5

5.  Melk 0.5

Goal Accuracy

1.  Dogga  63.6%

1.  Fritschkrieg  63.6%

3.  T-Mac  60.5%

4.  Ben Brown  55.6%

5.  ANB  45%

If we can get Dogga taking some more marks that would also give us a super boost, with or without a BB firing on all cylinders.  Get both of these two up and about and the scoreboard / winning margins might explode.

Once and if BBB looks to have gained some speed on the lead and repeat running patterns when VFL returns then we should have a look at him. Until then we should return to when our forward line and forward pressure looked best which was without either Weid or BBB. I am not against 3 tall forwards but I am against it just for the sake of it.

Was there on the wing. There was a moment when Max marked in front of me about sixty out from goal.

All our talls were miles behind him in the centre.

Yes delivery was poor but our forwards were all over the place.

And when delivery was reasonable we were simply out marked or out positioned. There was also little strategy bw them.

But on the whole, you are correct about delivery. Pies showed us how it was done with precision inside fifties.

Having said that some forwards go and create their own luck so to speak and thats what makes them champions.

Our forwards except for Jackson were Im sad to say lazy this game gone by .

Maybe they were thinking it was a cake walk...But for some reason they just didnt fight like they previously have.

Gee Deever you could have given me a lift. LOL

To be honest my impressions of BB's first 3 games were that he needs more work, either keep playing him or more hard training. So selection decided on the latter. lets hope it's worked.

Yeah, media propaganda. Geelong almost lost with Hawkins and Cameron against a VFL backline

I doubt all football departments allow themselves to be influenced by media propaganda.

KPF’s command a premium in the market. Scarcity is a factor but putting the ball between the big sticks is the main reason. They will win you games (or lose you games if not good enough).

I think Bbb will be in for the Dons clash and play well.

I also think Sw will leave at the end of season and he like Bbb will be better at another club. It happens.

If we can get our forward line firing it will be much more exciting and we may squash a few teams along the way. At keast we are a fair way still from finals so we can srill get it right. And if Im wrong about Bbb then maybe the Brown will step up.

Thank goodness for Tmac. Who would have thought?

Key forwards remain the most overrated position in footy. If midfield & defence click, goals will come.

Not unless we improve our general goal kicking accuracy.  Our mids and small forwards are mostly putrid especially with set shots for goal.

At the moment, aside from T-Mac, Fritschkrieg, BBB and Lingers (on the odd occasion he gets a shot) most can't hit the broadside of a barn.

The mids and defence have been clicking super well in most matches so far this season yet we have struggled to put away most teams, including the cellar dwellers, and have lost to two bottom four clubs so far.

We simply don't convert enough of the opportunities we make into goals.

It's our biggest weakness by a country mile and most opps are aware of it hence they play their guts out against us every match as they believe they're in with a chance as we rarely post big scores.

Excluding injuries, I think the Weideman trial has run its course and  think one of the  Browns will play a big part in this years success moving forward.

I believe it will be Bbb.

If we are genuine about the two talls format and BBB is to be in the next phase/trial of it then we need to readjust the way we deliver. There are ties to do the long ball but BB is a leading forward, so we need to look at running patterns to create space and look for the pass 30-40m out on the lead.

Yze and Stafford should be trying to get a clear understanding about where the midfield is expected to be delivering the ball to the forwards. We were absolutely pantsed at this by the pies.

I really believe we can maximise the potential of what we have with BB in the side.

Unfair to Nibbler who has improved his accuracy markedly.

Not just goal kicking accuracy.
We really don’t have anyone who can reliably kick a set shot from distance 50 metres and beyond. This weekend we saw some monster goals from the likes of Green, Hipwood and others. Petracca can hit from long range but his accuracy is all over the place. Our mids have to constantly search wide and deeper into the forward for a set shot target. We don’t have a player who can mark on 50 and confidently go for a set shot. Both Browns can hit from long range but they are currently are not playing. We need some players that can take that option when our forward line is choked up. That’s one of my big gripes with Weid. He can win the ball whe moves up into space from goal but we have seen many of his set shots not even make the distance.

I did mention him but he’s a midfielder and he can be inaccurate with set shots. We need a key forward to step up. No use leading and marking at 50 out and not being able to make the distance.

The forwards will succeed - with movement and confident pace. This will give the midfielders some relief - not having to land the ball in the teeth of the goals for every forward despatch of the ball. Successful clubs are multi-pronged at high and mid-forward delivery and receipt. Multiple targets - from movement - will make a big difference. If forwards are not prepared to move, replace them with those who will. This is one of the reasons that I would like to see not only BB and Daw playing alongside TMac (who is mobile with Fritta), but also a 'recovered' Joel Smith and even one of the two brand new recruits on the circular waltz.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
