Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Goody has got to be coach of the year doesn't he? a team most predicted to win finals finishing with what 17 wins, minor premiership

I'd also nearly pick Max as the AA Captain to be honest, i'd say it's him or Bont

i cant remember but is there a coach in the AA squad?

Agree on goody. I think Max cemented his Captain status on Saturday night. Bont went missing on Friday. Also will be Max's 5th AA they will reward that as well being Captain of the top team.

Bont has many years to get the gong.

Yep, unfortunately I think Nicnat will be the starting ruck.

Hmmm i did the comparison of Gawn and Nic Nat the other day. If you use the true ruck stats as the decision criteria then you Gawn by a mile.

If you then factor other stats i.e. contested marks, clearances, goals etc then it will really boil down to what the selectors favour. If its marks (contested or not) and goals, then Gawn again by a mile. The only area Nic Nat is more dominant at is tackles and clearances and lets face it, he was high in those numbers because he didn't have Oliver, Viney and Trac in the middle with him and he also shared a fair amount of ruck time with LJ.

I think Gawn deserves to be selected as the starting ruckman more than Naitanui does. Even if it's true that Naitanui is the best tap ruckman, Gawn does a lot more damage on the ground and he impacts the scoreboard far more regularly.

game time comparisons:

Dees vs Eagle:   gawn 96%               NicNat           61%

Dees vs Cats (must win game)       Gawn              87%

Eagles vs Swans (must win game)  NicNat           73%

More game time allows Max to run down oponents and work up and down the ground, liske this week. Nic's great on the tap but I would rather the skipper out there longer than 3/4/or less of a game.

Locks should be: Oliver, Gawn, Tracc and Lever (anyone else is a bonus)

Gawn (c) would be amazing but not 100% on this. I don't mind Greene as (c), but not sure if that's possible.

Goodwin should be coach (remember how much pressure he was on before the season). He's been incredible - has had great guidance with Yze and Chocco. But all credit to him.

Oliver, Lever, Petracca and Gawn should all be in the 22.

May is on the fringe.

Salem is a chance for the squad.

Fritsch and Pickett have had good seasons but I can't see them making the squad.

I maintain my view Gawn is the superior ruck to Naitanui. Naitanui is fawned over for his hit outs and clearances. Well he can have all the clearances he wants, they don't translate into superior impact: he and Gawn average the precise same number of score involvements per game (5.4), whilst Gawn averages more metres gained (309.9 per game to Naitanui's 211.3).

And then of course Gawn outdoes Naitanui in many other respects: he gets more disposals (including effective disposals), he gets back into defence more and therefore has more rebound 50s and intercept marks (the latter stat is 1.9 to 0.4 per game), he takes more than 3 times as many marks per game (5.2 to 1.5) and hits the scoreboard more (1.4 shots at goal to 0.6).

Goody would be a deserving coach, but I wouldn't be surprised if they gave it to Longmire. Sydney weren't expected to be anywhere near it, where as we have under performed for years.

Goody isn't really seen as a great coach yet, I don't think. That'll change should we win it all

I hope in the future there will two AA teams selected. So many of the choices are subjective. Who can say Harris Andrews in better than May?  Players need to be selected for actual positions and not cluttered with too many midfielders. There is also an opportunity for actual match ups say like Gawn vs Niknat.

Gawn will be a 5 time All Australian and the captain of the minor premiers. How can he not be made captain?

He has been without a doubt the best and most consistent ruckman in the competition for half a decade now.

Suggesting Toby Greene as captain is laughable.

I don't understand how there is even an argument that Gawn isn't the best ruckman in the competition. He is the most consistent, and has the most impact both in the ruck and around the ground. Nic Nat can't play more than 10 minutes without blowing up. Good player but not Gawn level.

think this would be a worthy 22:

B: Stewart - May - Lever
HB: Dale - Andrews - Rich
C: Macrae - Wines - Miller
HF: Petracca - Hawkins - Zorko
F: Greene - McKay - Cameron
Foll:: Gawn - Oliver - Bontempelli
I/c: Parish - Stringer - Steele - Naitanui

think fritsch and salem will be in the 40-man squad

Nic Nat is so overweight it's an embarrassment. If there's one thing i just do not understand about professional athletes it's how they can front up in poor condition. Indicates low standards and total lack of professionalism. I wouldn't have him in my team until he got himself into shape. I don;t understand why Simpson allows it. Imagine what kind of player he would be if he had Maxy's dedication.

Maxy every day of the week over Nic Nat

I don't think they'll pick May, although they should. Weitering or Andrew will get the pick with Lever, Aliir and couple  others.

Interesting if Gawn is starting ruck or on the bench.

My thoughts too. There's a decent case for Nic Nat.

They have had to manage Nic Nat's game time from day 1, he actually had his best game for a long time on the weekend.  He is a very good tap ruckman mainly at centre bounces when he can jump at the contest, outside that he has little influence on a game.

Thank you Jack Watts, if we picked up Nic Nat in the 2008 draft we wouldn't have drafted Max in 2009.

All-Australian team will be announced this Thursday, and while he's unlikely to get a spot in the final 22, surely Kozzy Pickett deserves to be part of the conversation.

Has had the odd quiet patch, but finished 3rd in the league for tackles inside 50, and put 35 goals on the board.

Outstanding effort.

PS: ANB was #1 in the comp for tackles inside 50. Also outstanding.

On goals can anyone publish a list of our goal scorers this season please.Dogga has started to get his share but we need Tmac to hit  the board again.

Parish will be ahead of Miller or Steele, rightly or wrongly.

You might well be right. I can't see Miller not making it though - he has been huge. I prefer Steele over Parish. Parish had a purple patch mid year, and his best is probably more eye-catching, but I think Steele has been more consistent. Walsh is another that would be unlucky to miss.

I like your side but I don't think Cameron is in AA form. I think Papley should get the nod. Apart from the fact he has had a great year, you probably have to put a Sydney Swan player in and Parker, Mills, Heeney and maybe Tom Hickey come into consideration and may make the squad but I don't think any of those will make the team and while Papley may not make it I think they'll go for a second full forward in the spot rather than Cameron. I spose we'll see.

Cameron has more goals and more tackles than Papley, so I think he gets in. I want a swans player in the side, but Hickey is behind Gawn and NicNat, and there have been better mids than Parker, Mills and Heeney. Buddy might be there best chance, but he's missed a lot of footy.

GWS had to strongly encourage him to be the stand in captain when Coniglio went down, he didn't want the job. Not sure how you can have him as AA captain on that basis.

You mean Charlie Cameron right? Does he get in ahead of Greene? i reckon we will have 3 midfielders in the forward line (Trac, Stringer and Bonts to make way for more midfielders in the comp)

I just can't do the NicNat love. Don't get me wrong, he is a freakish talent, and I respect his strengths, but he rarely impacts full games and can't play for longer than 5 mins without exhaustion.

Gawn and Sean Darcy from Freo for me.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
