Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Weid has kicked 14 goals in 3 weeks. He has been successful at AFL level. Weid could make our forward line as hard to match up on as our backline. He could make our team harder to beat. Weid has earned a go. It would seem the FD agree with me according to Goodwin. It may be years before Jackson is as good as Weid as a specialist forward, if ever. If Weid does not work we can try something else. That applies to the whole forward line. We have been very good at developing players through Casey.

Jacko is a ruck first and forward or utility second. Dont confuse their roles which will no doubt evolve in the rest of 2021 and beyond.
I don't compare their Goals because Sam will kick more but LJ will score about half Sams goals but score assist more than the balance of Sams total.

As far as both are concerned it's like BBB and Tmac both will contribute but at different ways and methods.

That do good for our potential scoring to also add the potent skills of Fritta and Kossie plus others resting down there.

It is about a team scoring goals which will keep pressuring all backlines with exciting players and abilities to keep the score going at a good rate during every game.

Sam is an unselfish player and his score assist may be pretty good.

The difference would be goal assist and involvement from outside the 50m arc. Where Jackson could excel.

I don't know their records but LJ has got the role in the team just perfect in all respects except perhaps his high marking.
Sam tends to be pushed or floats under the ball and I don't believe he is a great ONE grabber. He is not unselfish but he needs to start impacting the scoreboard for his career to start producing the results from the talent  he possesses. He  a good/ great kick fir goal generally.

We are lucky to have both As well as Tmac and BBB snd Fritta plus MitchB.

Agree, big issue in the marking contest!

Also seems to have his arms straight above his head and not extended out in front of eyes, so as to make it a more difficult to spoil.

Hope they have worked with him and he surprises us with his craft.

I think he knows he needs to clunk them, he told me so early on in his career at a training session.

My original post said to bring him back after the bye.

Manage the young man playing against those big bodies. Give him lots of time to refresh, hang out at home and allow the other talls a run at it.

It is a bit of a risk to have him out for that extended period, but I believe he will be better for it come the second half of our year.

The discussion also touched on what to do when he comes back in.

Do we play with an imbalance in the line up?

I thought yes, experiment. Set him up as a midfielder. With Max and Jackson following the ball then it is so easy for Max to drop off fwd or back and know the stoppages are covered. What a headache for the opposition.

Some thought the imbalance of too many talls would be detrimental, especially when we play in the wet and the big boys start losing their footings and going to ground when contesting.

I think he will be training next week and return next week or the week after.

I watched both those VFL matches where he kicked the 14 goals.  But who was his direct and indirect opponents in those matches?  Were they AFL listed? Were they any good?  Casey won by large amounts; was that because the opponents were so bad, or was it due to Weed kicking loads of goals?  These are all genuine questions, not rhetorical.  I'm not anti-Weed in any way but I wonder whether we have a reliable guide to how in-form he is.  Other than the club being prepared to pick hims this week - which perhaps answers my questions. Though maybe there is also a keep Weed happy element in the decision.

I think you mean 10 or something Sue...he didn't kick 14 in two matches from my recollection.

He's got his chance. let's see what he rings. I want to see consistently strong performances.

By the way 14 goals in 3 weeks doesn't mean much when Casey's percentage is 269, means the opposition have been rubbish.

Ever heard of sharks? They take surfers on a regular basis. Homesick is an absurd excuse.LJ is not a baby. Does he even surf? If yes, go down to Portsea or over to Bells.

yes very regularly it seems

Since 1791 there have been 193 deaths by sharks  over 640 attacks Australia wide

His 14 goals in 3 games are a big reason their percentage is 269. He’s second in the entire VFL goal kicking. His current goal kicking form in the VFL is better than any listed Melbourne forward in over a decade, including Hogan.

Credit to him for putting in the hard work and outperforming his peers. I’m glad he’s finally got his chance at AFL where he’s already proved capable. He just needs to stay on the park at this point.

Jackson will never be as effective as Weid as a forward. His value is playing ruck and midfield.

Those are official stats. Alot of people have been taken by sharks but no witnesses. Small coastal towns dont like the negative publicity so they go silent. Sharks are coming closer to shore searching for food because greedy fishing trawler fleets are taking everything with the aid of satellites. WA or SAfrica run hot. You couldnt pay me to go swimming in S Africa.

Some mildly interesting things happening:

Viney goes from ready to play earlier this week to now probably 2 weeks away.

Bailey Laurie gets cleared to run but is bumped back to 5 weeks away. That's a long lay off with a facial fracture.

Bowey doesn't even make the graphic. He's got to be a test at best if they had to get scans and he couldn't play out the game.

Vanders is stuck at 2 weeks.

Nathan Jones is 100 years old but somehow does a hammy that doesn't stop him training and has him right to go with just 1 game off.

And finally Marty Hore has snuck away from the 'season' and to 10-12 weeks. If things go well he could be a chance of being available for finals. One to watch anyway.

Bailey Laurie has been 5 weeks for a few weeks. An abbreviated 4-6 perhaps?

Entirely likely they were waiting on the clearance to run and now can progress that, but it has taken a fair bit of time. I've never got hung up on the weeks because they're always a rough guide line with time frames often determined by so many factors, I'm just hoping Laurie can get back quickly. He missed all of last year as all the Victorians did so it would be nice for him to get a block of games in to build from.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
