Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I hope this lad will be as good as his apparent attributes lead many to believe. And I am as bad or hopeful as any poster.

And he may indeed become the one that slipped through, hope so anyway. And all this from a highlights package and no one I know having seen him play in a game as yet.

The catch might be that the expectations of the long suffering Demonland readers,  might push him too far and too hard, too early,

and that he shines bright too quickly and burns out in a couple of short seasons. I hope not, but..... So lets not expect too much in his first year. He will have a lot of expectations to carry on his shoulders from us on Demonland.

I hope he is strong !!    Good Luck,     go hard or go home.   Reminds me a bit of an early Ox.

Firstly if he turns out like the Ox we will have a champion ( without injuries was Wayne Careyesque) on our hands!

Secondly I am not sure but also read that ANB and T Mac finished 1 and 2 in run and Fraser third. Moot point still an outstanding effort from the young man.

He is seriously chasing his dream with effort and motivation and who knows how good he will be. One other thing is his physical attributes Skills and Attitude are also playing a big part in his pre season attempt to be there in Round 1 with BBB and the rest of the boys!!

It’s not so much the effort in the time trial,  but the whole vibe in how he presented himself in a year when there was little or no football, his size, athleticism and the expectations of the supporters versus the way the Ox played in his first couple of seasons (before the knees.    Hard to remember Now ) and the expectations of many the same supporters for the years to come for the Ox as he matured as a footballer.

Very hard to remember, my memory is going the same way as my hairline. It’s disappearing.
Chase your dream indeed. Good luck !

Ox was a very skilled big man. He could sidestep an opponent and a great kick.

i don't expect him to play til round 5

He did that in 2018 and came 3rd in the brownlow. Obviously different circumstances and it wasn’t a fitness issue keeping him out bk then,  but hey it’s pre season and i’m looking for omens!

As quoted by STINGA re Training Wednesday 27th Jan

"Rosman was the one who stood out for me.  He's athletic, big strong and has a leap. Marked a few over the top of others and got a few handball receives running past.  Plays like Bontempelli and even kicks like him. Wouldn't be surprised if he played first up.

Hnmm the more I see and hear the more I like it.

Is it too early to lock him in for Round1 ??

He’s got some hype now doesn’t he. Hope we at least see him in the pre season game /s to get a sense of him at this level.

Id love to see his action kicking a goal from 45 out. Ive only seen his athleticism which seems excellent and would be very happy if he was a natural footballer as well.

He looks a good athlete as you say 'Damo' and like you I would be happy to see him also being a natural footballer...as we've seen with Frost & Smith athlete doesn't always equal natural footballer.

One of the things that impressed me the most when watching his highlights was his vice like contested marking. Sure knows how to take a grab. There was no double grab just full clunks.

I know he's been training as a wingman, but do wonder if he'll start up forward. He also has the frame to put on some serious size as well which is exciting.

Reading through this thread and there's a wonderful sense of excitement. Yet it's like he's been selected as a "project player", like a Category B rookie, rather than someone picked in the 30s in the draft. Any player picked in the 30s should be considered a reasonable prospect of being a great success, not a "project player". I'd be disappointed if we picked anyone in the 30s who we thought was a high risk, high reward prospect. I expect him - like any player picked in the 30s - to be a player who might need some time to physically develop, but should otherwise be skilled enough to play in his first year.

I agree - haven't seen him play (only seen his highlights packages) but the fact that he can run (quickly and all day), has size and can take a grab makes me think he must have a few other things to work on (otherwise why didn't he go top 10?)

Like all of his cohort, he's essentially missed a year of footy - let's not put too much expectation on the kid before he's even played a practice match!

I think we can be excited by his prospects but he has not played a game for  many months.  The excitement about his abilities is as I said before very Ox like before his knees,  to my dim memory anyway.  Not saying ability, just the excitement.

Go Dees, Good Luck Fraser,  make an impact !

He’s seems to have an X factor about him. Physically he’s going to be a beast. He has a strong grab, is quick and tall and has a good tank judging my his time trials.

His skills are an unknown at the moment. Would love to see him get a run during pre-season so we can see what he can do with the ball in hand.

Apologies if this is a silly comparison (I have no idea about the kid other than what I've read here) - but could he be a Charlie Curnow type of forward?

Will be much better player than Jack Watts going by his highlights.  Lets not heap pressure on the guy though, he needs to get into side and build from there.  His size and being able to run all day i am sure makes a lot of us quite bullish about his prospects.  Looking forward to seeing what he has got!

Its not a silly comparison.  One of Curnow's nights strength was his high end endurance and ability to work his opponents through his workrate.

The only thing Rosman would have over Curnow is his contested marking.

One thing I left out of my training report because I'd already said a bit about rosman, is that he covers the ground.  You know how some players get involved in something, stop and think I need to go there but are then too late.   Rosman just goes.  It's a breaking the lines thing.  I think it's instinctive.  Langdon does it for us.

Haha! I was typing it with a lopsided grin. He looks something that we don't have anyway, Tomlinson being the only one that i can think of that will be able to do the repeat runs, roughly his size.  I can see why some think he may end up being our other winger.  Of the 3 draftees he looks the more likely of them to play early.

The hype on this kid is getting a bit OTT.

He is a pick 34 without a long list of accomplishments, who is being lauded as a future champ by some, and its based on a few highlights and (admittedly impressive) aerobic capacity.

Poor kid should just be given the chance to see if he can play footy before we go gooey over him.

He is probably the perfect candidate to test our player development skills.

Max Gawn was pick 34 on the back of 2 knee reconstructions and no TAC cup footy.....

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
