Rosman, DSmith and McVee all play that similar defensive role but statistically none has really stood out from any other and none has had a noticeable game with 20+ touches and real impact. with all three OOC i wonder if they decide to keep 2/3 all three or none i feel like as many have said it's really lineball. If in fact Rosman is the standout of the three so far (i havent seen any vfl footage only opinions based on the statistical evidence which i know isnt the be all and end all) then maybe dropping him to the rookie list in place of chandler who has to come up and MBrown who has to come up or go too is the way to go.

the comp wide average each season is 8. i'd imagine we'd be on the lower side of that at around 5-6 but if jacko/gus or both or even an OOC fringe player like hunt or Jsmith decide to move on we'd be closer to bang on the average

The thing that stands out for me is that all three play in the backline at Casey and it appears that sides are having a lot of trouble scoring against, could be coincidence or maybe the boys are playing their role….!!!

Think thats mainly because Dunstan, Munro, Chandler, Baker, White etc are dominant at the contests.

I was more impressed with Rosman last year and am a bit disappointed with his progression. That said, he is playing a new position this year.

I see a super athlete, with a long kick and decent overhead. But he fumbles too often to play AFL and is not a natural footballer.

I think he will probably be retained on our list because he has potential due to his size and athletic traits. Plus we won't have many draft picks.

Howes and Woewodin look to have more polish.

Spot on, and you can add Daw and Bell in the ruck when they've played.

I've watched most of Casey's games, and the backline has been a far cry from the Seniors. They are often caught out leaking goals out the back due to poor structure. 

In the game against North, i remember Ryan Koo competing for a mark against 4 North players in the goal square, and he almost spoiled it. No other Casey player in sight.

Rosman, Dek Smith and McVee have all had their moments, but I wouldn't guarantee that they'll all still be on the list next year.

Have been disappointed with his progression.  He is in a similar boat to a lot of players presently at Casey.  Nothing to show during Covid times, and now coming into contract end period.

Importantly for Rosman, same as Oskar Baker, is who does they replace ( short of injury)  No room in the backline and JJ and Langdon have the wings sewn up for years to come it seems.  They have to show a reason that makes them superior to those already playing seniors.  AND Hunt and Rivers are presently playing alongside them, with far superior qualities.

Same for Laurie...who does he replace in the middle? 

Sadly, I have seen nothing from McVee and D. Smith which would keep them at the club, especially since they are OOC.

With every VFL game accessible on AFL live, I expected a much more enlightened analysis of our Casey players! Just a reminder... Casey are undefeated deep into the 2022 season!

I have watched most of Casey's games.

I think rosman had a really good first 6 or 7 games, particularly given he was playing in a new position. 

Has struggled a bit after his hammy injury.

Like Sydee, I think his footy iq is fine. Reads the ball well coming inside 50 and gets to the right spots.

He has some teal x factor, though tbat has been less evident down back.

I wonder whether his slightly awkward kicking style impacts on people's view of how natural a footballer he is. Unlike Smith, he played a fair bit of junior footy.

He is a bit tweener size wise, which makes it hard to know what his ideal position is.

He was speculative pick, a project and I reckon they will renew his contract and keep developing him.

I've also watched most of Casey's games, and my observations:

1. Rosman is not hard at it - not a strong contested player at all.  Cannot impose himself physically on any contests. I think this will be the main reason he is delisted from Melbourne to be honest - doesn't look like he has the contested capacity to play our brand. 

2. Rosman work rate is poor - repeated efforts, coupled with an inability to "find the footy" - he tends to drift though games almost unnoticeably. 

3. Disposal is weak, and has often chosen poor options (kick across half back flank) or misses targets. Posters here are correct that he can give the ball a very good roost, but is not a penetrating kick in the same way that McVee is. 

4. Lacks run and carry, does not provide run and bounce off HB (this could be role based) in the same way that McVee or Rivers can and do. 

On the subject of Deakyn Smith - he like Toby Bedford, AMW, and even Taj in games has shown that his ceiling is higher than Rosman.  There's been games when Smith has looked very much AFL standard.  Like a lot of junior players, I believe its developing the consistency to play at that standard for longer periods.  Again the problem with Rosman is that he has NEVER had a break out performance or done things that make you sit up and think, yup AFL standard. Smith in particular has shown an ability to be clean under pressure and hit up targets (similar to McVee).

From my watching of the Casey games the ones I really enjoy watching week in week out are Corey Ellison - I think he has got such great potential and is a really good contested mark (forward and behind the ball) - would love to see him get a shot as a mature age recruit.  The other crafty b#%tard player in the team is Roan Steele I think out of Frankston YCW - this kid just pops up everywhere, and has immediately looked top echelon small forward.  The other is George Grey.  So there's some good talent in that team that maybe doesn't get all the hype of someone as a Rosman for example.  I don't think i've watched a game where Rosman has even been close to a top 5 player on the ground for Casey - such is his limited impact.

I'm with Binman here.  Not sure what "developing nicely" means but McVee hasn't done anything this year & is lucky he has a 2 year deal. As for Smith I reckon he has gone backwards this year.

Hibbo has been very good but he's near the end. Unless Joel Smith spends summer at Lourdes it's hard to have faith in his body, and I expect Jaiden will playing in different colours next year.

I really rate Rivers but he's not the versatile medium defender that Hibberd is. Maybe there is a future there for Rosman.

It depends on what Gus does. If he re-signs it is hard to see McVee and D.Smith both being retained.

That's to say if they offer him a rookie spot or list spot, they clearly disagree with your assessment.

In all sincerity WW, i have no idea what you are trying to say here or what point you are trying to make

I had assumed you were providing evidence of your assertion that McVee is developing quite nicely and Deakin Smith has done enough to stay on the list, and countering the critique of those players from other posters.

But your post i've quoted above seems to suggest my assumption was wrong?

And to be honest, the actual data does too - i mean they are ok numbers in isolation, but hardly earth shattering evidence these boys have earned another contract.

What would you like us to glean from the the 'data' you posted?

Laurie was excellent tonight, in trying conditions his ball handling was spot on, used the ball well and applied plenty of pressure.

JVR is developing nicely, good grab, nice kick and imposes himself.
