Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Would easily get a better back up.  And it happens every year that back up rucks move clubs.

If we get Grundy I have no problem with Weid being our back up.  But we then run the risk of if both he and Gawn get injuries then our ruck is Weid,  which I don't like.

SO you are happy with him with him as back up, but not happy to have to use him at any stage.

I think Weideman if he was picked as back up ruck/forward, would be very similar to what we got from LJ this year.....He is just not a pure forward, the hybrid role suits him better. He finds a way to get into the game rather than having a few opportunities in our forward half,  not taking them, and losing confidence , then dropped again.  Has been a cycle that needs to stop.

Much like Silvagni from Carlton.  Would get much more consistent performances if he was in the play more often.   He is creative enough with handballs etc to make the role work.  Unfortunately i think he has been pigeon-holed into a role that does not suit him.

Personally i think he still has a bit to offer, just currently not being utilised at all well.

Yes it’s really up to Sam. He’s such a great young man. Very nice. Very respectful. Too nice really for a competitive AFL. You couldn’t wish for a truer friend or bloke to have a nice cold Stone and Wood pale ale or Gin & Tonic with.

But his role at MFC?  Tall forward. Hmmm. He still gets sucked under the footy in marking contests and has too many fumbles.  His kicking is generally very good. But he’s had so many chances. One reasonable game. Two poor games. Dropped.  That’s the form chart.

Backup ruck? Maybe.  But just maybe.  He was strong at Casey versus young inexperienced VFL rucks. But old man Crossley at Southport either was a break even or Crossley slightly ahead.  Sam’s not physical enough and would only be plan B or C if Grundy comes in.

Who would be interested in Sam? GWS?? 🤮Collingwood??? Yes given his family link but they’ve already got 6 players lined up to come in (Hill, Mcstay, Fiorini, Hayes, Mitchell, Frampton. Huh!! ) .

Sam’s a free agent next year after his contract so he’ll probably go on at MFC.

He has not got the athleticism of either of those guys,  and would have to go with a Jackson, TDK, English ect.  He won't be able to keep up and compete.

He isn't a ruckman,  it's not a craft you learn in 1 year.

Could not agree more on LJ this year particularly the second half of the year.

The Weed will kill it if plays 2nd ruck or forward ruck. He'll grow in confidence and kick goals

I am not against trading Sam Weideman to the Saints.

A fresh change of scenery may do him good?

The only question is what would be a fair trade in return? 🤔

Very little. He is worth more to keep.

He played some good footy at Casey in the second half of the season. When in the ruck he showed some composure in tight situations and was able to get an effective kick or handball away. Whether this will translate to the top level is the question but , as he is under contract, hopefully we will get the opportunity to see.

If we let Weideman go, who do we have as a backup ruck at Casey?

Lose 3 ruckman (Jackson, Daw, Weid) and gain 1 (Grundy). We'd need 2 additional ruckmen on our list should Weid go.

We have backup rucks at Casey in Bell, Valentine and Smith etc, but would have no AFL backup to Gawn and Grundy.

We could Rookie an experienced ruckman, until the son of you know who, that you don't want me to mention, is drafted and matures.

However I am not saying clear Weid, only posting the rumour.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
