Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Charles Spargo - A Grade Small Defender (2021 Edition)

It is time to make the shift, Goodwin -

We should be using Spargo as our budget Caleb Daniel,

  • Good kicking (albeit not penetrating)
  • High footy IQ
  • Good decision making, composure
  • Not afraid of the rough stuff

But lacks the X-factor & explosiveness to thrive as a small forward.

2021, the year of the Spargo.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing watching Caleb Daniel today (who is an absolute gun btw). It's not the craziest idea.

I actually think Spargo will be a decent player, although I realize he's something of a whipping boy around here. He has a tendency to go missing, but he rarely turns it over when he gets it.

Too slow.  Imagine what a Charlie Cameron, Gryan Miers or Liam Ryan would do to him? They would have his photo on their walls and the game date circled in red just like most opposition tall forwards do with  OMac.

Lockhart is the small defender in waiting.

You're all stuck in the Goodwin school of stubbornness - embrace the vision!

Believe it or not Goodwin tried him there and it didn't work.

He's not the player Daniel's is...same stature but nowhere near the player.

I think he will be a fringe back up forward and be in and out as long as his career goes on.

I think there is something about Charlie but don't think it will be the Caleb type role.  I could see him playing forward for a 200+ game career with us and have some big moments in finals.  He has the grit required to make it and he has improved on every part of his game from what i can see.  His tackling, his pressure, his kicking distance, he has kicked 8.0 for the year, he is accurate.   He never seems to get too carried away when he does good things, and has that look on his face like he expects it of himself.

We need to build a list of players that have skill, footy smarts, heart/courage, and that will to just win.  I see him as an integral part of us becoming a great team. Anyone thinking he is a trade or delist currently will change their tune and want to ruffle his hair in the end!  He is developing nicely.  Respect little fella!

Why move him from the forward line, hes one of our most creative players there, rarely makes a bad decision.  He will create so many goals.

Well he has something over Harmes then! Who we persisted with down there for 14 odd rounds

Correct, Harmes hasn’t played a decent game for 2 years but is a favourite somehow, maybe it’s his tattoos & muscles

Spargo on the other hand is an easy target, he’s small, slightly built but & in my opinion a lot smarter footballer & plays his role in the team

Spargo played back in round 23 last year. Wasn't terrible, but it's not his go.

Playing a tiny defender is asking to give up a couple of goals just through a mismatch. It's a miracle Daniel avoids this at the Dogs and it's because he's off the charts smart and their other members of their back 6 all have size and overhead ability.

Spargo is playing well at half forward. If we want to get him in to games more we should start pushing him up higher to attend stoppages and then even in to the middle for short rotations, but he's probably not at that stage yet.

They might have to move one to the midfield but if we get Rivers and Salem going we might have a solution for a lot of the backline skills problem. All we need is competently skilled players to support them.

When we're 50 points down in the last quarter against port Adelaide I don't understand why changes like this don't happen. Literally no harm done.

Because he didn't play against Port Adelaide...

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
