    Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

    Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

    We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

    However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

    The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

    Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

    We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

    WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

    Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think we can draw a line through more than the coach after watching that. Too early to name players, but the blokes who came in had an opportunity. There is a future for Rivers, some of the regulars (Petracca, Gawn, Oliver, Fritsch, VDB, Viney (until hit), Hibberd) were up to AFL standard, but after that I'm scratching what hair I have left.

You're being extremely kind to Fritsch and VDB

Completely agree

Never has the accumulating burn merchant tag been more apt than tonight.

Soooooo many fumbles

Then the running approach to 50, wind behind, with 5 mins to go, kick from 53, shinned it deep into right pocket.... any star mid would have buried a goal at half post height

[censored] me seriously drunk!

Just another predictable performance that MFC dishes up all too often. Players and coaches too comfortable collecting their pay checks week in week out.  Lacking in accountability and leadership across the board. Change is needed - So what is chairman Glen going to do?

“It’s great for the Club to announce, prior to the season starting, that Simon Goodwin has signed on for the next four years,” Pert told the club’s website.

“It is certainly a show of confidence from the Board, Josh Mahoney and myself in Simon as a coach and what he is producing out on field, but also the culture that he is building in our football department.

This is the Board signing off that these are the people, this is the leadership, this is the program and this is the culture that we believe will take the Melbourne Football Club to where we want to go over the next four years. It’s an investment in those people and the program, so that makes it pretty exciting.”

It's time for Perty, Mahoney and all other board members who ratified this rubbish extension to pack their bags and walk as well.  They were complicit in this whole extension debacle and the signing of such a long extension on a rookie coach was/is negligent and indefensible.

Never been a fan of pert. Flim flam man.

We picked a team of runners and it poured rain .

Picked Preuss as well but hard to Mark in the wet.

As bad as we are it’s rotten luck.

Only if the club had never heard of the Bureau of Meteorology

I called the club last week and took my membership of auto-renew. I told them if Goodwin goes I'll put it back on.

Someone mentioned that Pert gets reports like this. Call the club and let them know you won;t re-sign if Goodwin is there. Money talks.

Just sent them an email saying the same thing

I thought Jack and Langdon were our best. From teh first minute. They turn it over a bit but they had a go, the irony is not lost on me. Our bets and most competitive players are no good with ball in hand.

Giants will smash us next and when it is mathematically impossible we'll come out and smash Bombers by 80 and the players will be high fiving like they just won the flag!!!

Or we'll belt GWS and the EFC with champagne football, and miss out on the 8 by the bee's proverbial, just to rub in to everyone what could have been.

No guarantee of a any efficacious vaccine for 2021...

Not really what I meant - hence the 'normal'. The only thing a vaccine will affect is the number of fans at a game. What I meant is games every weekend, 6/7 day breaks, full quarters (which will really help us), a proper pre-season, no trips to Adelaide then Brisbane then Alice then Cairns, and so on, and so on.

As if, be very surprised if we don't go down by 80+

Spot on. Never has a group been more primed to roll over for a 10 goal hiding than our blokes next week. Just rolled over against 14th and 15th and now cop a team with something to play for. Yuck.

Key parts of what  Garry said

*  urgency came too late

* maybe just an average group?

*  average sides/players can’t maintain consistency of effort

* 2018 aberration

* smith, Preuss, Bedford, ANB, Baker average players in what is now an average footy club

* Goodwin coaching average

* took too long to adjust, no passion, urgency until the end

* players trying to win the game by themselves as opposed to team

* good individuals, average team

* not enough resilience in team

Spot on especially the not playing as a team aspect, dunno if the coaches know how to coach that?

Didn't even bother watching it. Soon as I saw that Smith was playing down back again I knew we would be [censored]. Two weeks in a row 5 disposals is not AFL standard. Should have played Jetta, Simon you peanut. While he is coaching I'm fully over this club & they can GAGF if they think I'm forking out for membership next year.

What about 2012?

Or is being apathetic and losing by 80 points every week better because at least you know what you're going to get?

List quality is different.. not maximising list quality is career suicide

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

    In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

    UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

    The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

    THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

    Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

    LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

    I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
