Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Viney gets very, very, close to the protected zone on Kent's kick. I freaked out, I must admit.

Me too. Times 1000.

There have been at least 4 paid against this year that are no different.

If in an alternative universe i was a mad saints fans and regularly posted on a footy forum under the name namnib and a Paul Callery avatar i'd be banging on that fellow posters should be worried about the clear 50 we weren't paid not the goal/point by the player who if we we had any clue about recruiting should be in our team.

The enforcement of the protected zone is a farce.  In every game I’ve watched there are several infringements ignored.  The rule needs a major rethink.  Very often the offending player poses no threat to the player with the ball. But the penalty is enormous.

They don’t waltz out with Spargo there PSD? He is close to the worst tackler in the team.

I’d be watching the last 5min again then if I were you, he laid some of the most important tackles of the team. Far more than AvB and Hannan did who are also there to pressure the opposition.

Rewatching the game:

Hannan out.  AVB and Jones on notice.

Kozzie did better than i gave him credit for, although he had a real chance to do much better.  Brown, Wagner (save his first pickup) were good inclusions.

Tommo and Spargo both ok.  OMac did well most of the night, just got caught out on that one lead.

Max will only get better for the run

we were very poor disposing of the ball and very lucky to win. Our defensive pressure dropped off in Q2, but came back, luckily.

If that is one of the best midfields in the comp, I’m your mothers brother Robert.  They were hopeless in the middle, thrashed around the ball.  Only a few late moments to admire.  Gotta sort this out.

That loss to the Cats that @Delusional demon 82 referred to above was the most devastating H&A loss I can recall - it gutted me.

If Kent had kicked the sealer on Saturday night after a 50 I think that would have topped it.

I will never forget that loss. I was in China on a work trip and it was monsoon season. I watched on my iPad while the windows of the hotel shook. I also ate something dodgy during the game and was violently ill for the following 24 hours, which was fitting to how I felt about that game.

The AFL has said that umpires must give opponents some time to leave the protected area. Listening to the umps mics, they usually say "leave the area" at least twice before paying a 50. Viney was next to his opponent in the zone when the mark was taken and followed him away

Kent played on immediately, which may also remove the protection zone

But as we all know, it's a lucky dip with umpiring decisions.

A broad few questions for those upset that we lost the midfield.

Is it ok to lose clearances, and win the game?

Is it ok to lose clearances from time to time throughout the season ever?

Does it mean that there are systemic problems?

Is it meaningful from a belief, structure, effort perspective, that we lost the midfield and won the game?

Signed

Perplexed.

I will take another look at it.
Who actually knows what the protected zone is in a practical sense?

So inconsistently adjudicated.
Needs revision and some common sense, which would be very novel on the part of AFL.

Hit it on the head right there mono!

Who actually knows the interpretation this week or ..... by this.... or that umpire.

I can live with rules (most times) . What I can't live with with is inconsistency.

It's a lottery whether it gets paid or not. You'll see 4 or 5 examples of it and then 1 will be plucked out at an inappropriate time

But players need to be aware (Melksham particularly) and don't run the gauntlet

Seriously watch again. His 2nd efforts opponent on several occasions was terrible. He has the slowest reaction time of anyone in the team.

You want him to watch the game a third time to confirm your confirmation bias?

He was last man on the goal line to mark.  He took the ball and distributed it well through half back.  He was in good position and his skills were good in general.  He was often first man Jon defensive chains, and didn’t get caught or turn it over badly.  Which second efforts concern you?  I saw him zoning and positioning himself off the key backs.  Anyway, each to their own.  He may not have a matchup vs Sydney.

Seriously? He's one of those whose tackles at least stick. His defensive pressure has been good since coming back into the team. Those two tackles he laid in the final 60 seconds were superb.

Watched the last 2 minutes again. Dean Kent got 2 of his 9 disposals in the last minute. Maybe the zenith of his career will be that goal he kicked for us in Perth in 2018.

Was seen barracking hard against us vs North in the last round of 2019, he either hates us or had a wager on the game ...

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
