I've been so fed up with the team and the selections that I told myself I wasn't going to watch this week. These changes are actually making me keen to tune in.

Hallelujah!

A second tall forward. A player who can kick the footy. Jetta. And a far more reliable tall defender in Omac who will make Lever more able to zone off.

It’s like the coaches finally caught up to 2020 ?

A little better but Rivers should not have been dropped. AVB should have.

I think it was out of Rivers and Lockhart (for team balance). AvB has other gears he can go, we know it and we've seen it. Fingers crossed this will be the week.

Agree with a lot of the changes, but reckon Rivers is far better than Lockhart and I would have liked to see Hunt used elsewhere. He has been good this year with the limited supply. Hardly think he has been part of the problem this season. Also, Melksham and AVB are very lucky to hold spots. Acid test this week for the FD and Goody

I think Rivers ahead of Lockhart purely to give him a rest.
From what I understand the AFL is planning on cramming a lot of games into the next 4 weeks with 4-5 day breaks between games. Which means we need to look after the younger players.

We all know Melksham is Goodwin’s bestie. How he still gets a game in his current form is mind boggling.
AVB is on thin ice too, but given how little continuity he’s had I think he deserves a bit more time. I would like to see him playing as a defensive forward.

I doubt there is too many bigger Omac fans on this site than me (i'll let my fellow demonlanders into a little secret - i tricked my family into calling the dog we got 18 months back Oscar - my wife tricked me back and registered the name as Oskar) but the only selection that really surprises me is Omac in.

Not because i don't think it is the right  move - it is. He'll play deep on King and free up May to be more attacking and allow Lever to play the role he is most suited to. he should have been playing all season, but there you go.

But jeez it is tough on Smith. Worries me that they would go with a particular approach and then abandon it after only two games, particularly given he was ok against the tigers (he did a good job on Riewoldt). Where does he go with his footy now?  I hope they put him up forward and tell him to make merry hell.

To a lesser extent the same goes with the forward line set up ie playing small. That said it clearly was not working and good to see Goody accept that (though no less frustrating he tried the small forward line, not so much agiansth ecats but more so against the tigers when it clearly had not worked).

Play weed high (see what id there) and TMac deep (nothing to see there) out of the square with Fritter either on the wing or at high half forward

And Tomlinson was poor but i would have given him one more chance and dropped Melksham in a heart beat.

Benell for Hunt is no brainer. Had his chance and simply did not do enough in the last two games

Rivers a touch unlucky i reckon but i like Jetts back in the team.

One thing i really like with the selections is that Harley is the best kick in the team and i reckon Omac is the next best (Salem has gone backwards in my view - a player who can't reliably hit a target 50 metre away and can't kick low and flat is not great a kick in my view). And jetts is a reliable kick as is Weed (except when he is having set shot for a match winning goal).

Smith, tomlinson and Smith all below average so the players in address the skill issue a fair bit

I'm hoping Oscar in means they've given up on Lever playing on a key forward. Let him be the third tall and float/intercept

Glad Bennell and Weid are back. If Weid isn't up to it, at least we'll know, but hopefully he gets some confidence and snags a few

In a different idea, thoughts on Hannan being a winger? He's quick enough, got good hands, and usually good disposal. I just question his tank given the time off he has had.

Quite like this. I've been pushing for Salem and Melk on the wings as they are the superior kicks into 50. But Hannan good too.

Still want to see TMac and Hunt back in defense. Targets up forward would be Weed, Fritsch and Smith and with better kicks into them they should do quite well.

Good ins overall for this week but want to see more movements.

Happy with the ins.

The outs are slightly more questionable but having watched Tomlinson in a good team (GWS) last year I was always wondering what we would get.

Hunt is the only forward dropped so I'm not sure who moves where if we play Bennell on the flank.Could it be Salem to the wing?

I agree that it's a touch ironic they choose to drop him after he actually probably plays his best defensive game. I feel it's a bit like how they dropped Oscar after he actually played well vs WC. I wouldn't go so far to say I'm a fan of OMac (certainly not your level!) but I think as a second tall defender he actually stacks up quite well. Those being critical of him last year need to remember he was playing as our NUMBER ONE tall defender with Frost taking the second key forward. He's not built for that but he is the right size and ability for the secondary position and I really think our structure works better with him in.

As for Where Smith goes, I really do see him as a forward. He plays like a forward, he leaps like a forward (very much reminds me of Robbo and Smith Snr), if Melksham continues his poor form I'd like to see a Smith shift forward and give him a crack at it.

Not an admirer of the 'horror' genre  but the Stanley Kubrick movie was scary.

I think Rivers has been unlucky, he has been going alright and far from our worst. It seems Rivers has been dropped to fit OMac and Jetta in the backline. There will be plenty of time for Rivers but OMac and Jetta better show some grunt, it should be only one of them. Tomlinson was poor drafting. He does not fill any gaps and is not actually not good at anything in particular. He is just OK at a few things that is why GWS let him go. The best Tomlinson can offer is depth if there is an injury. Bennell for Hunt is like for like. Suns to win. No Rowel but Rankine is in for his first game of the year and he is a gun.

Glad to welcome the Weid into the side it might be what Tmac   needs. It helps by having 2 focal points as targets.

Omac is a great choice we missed the extra tall in the backline .  Bennell is primed for a game like this against his old side. He was unlucky to miss after being in the side against Essendon. He will be pumped.

Love Jetta and who doesn't experience and know how always counts.

They are GREAT selections  and cannot wait for them to be part of a win  this week and beyond.

Got the ins right for once!

2/4 correct outs. I didn't have the guts to drop Tomlinson but in hindsight he was terrible last week, and I'd prefer Rivers over Lockhart, but happy enough with that.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
