Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

How Important was Spargo

My main question regarding Spargo is what is he? Is he a small forward? Is he a small HFF? Is he an outside midfielder?

I just don't see where he fits into the list.

As Richie would say "Do my eyes deceive me ?"  but making the distance from close range set-shots can be an issue for him .

That is a rather serious deficiency at a club that struggles to score.

I really like Spargo because he's not your usual 6 foot midfielder/flanker and he gives hope to so many aspiring young players.(Always thought there should be an under 6ft basketball comp.)

in his first year he was a playmaker with the ability to receive and dispose quickly to advantage. He also benefitted from the 2018scoring spree when we took the bulk of our shots from around 20metres.

The game is now even more crowded than it was in 2018 limiting his ability to receive the ball in the clear and his disposal has become suspect. Similarly the close in shots seem to have dried up thus exposing his long kicking deficiency.

Does he have a role. Unfortunately probably not.Caleb Daniel who is more skilful than Charlie struggled in 2019 and is only showing occasional glimpses of his 2016 form these days. ( Decent game against the Swans last night.) It seems that it's a six footer's game these days.

he's obviously got some talent, but anyone on an afl list who has played a few games has too

his problem is consistency, or more accurately inconsistency

i'd say his future is on the cusp and how he goes this year (difficult with no magoos) will determine his future

reduced list sizes for next year will make it tough for him. my 2c says he's probably gorn

Do you mean he is consistantly inconsitant ?

You missed the joke, PF.  Mosquito = insect = six legs = six footer.  One for the cryptic crosswords fans, I guess.

Of course, there is no logic in it.  If there was, Tomas Bugg would have been still on our list.

Have to admit you had me stuffed. I struggle with standard crosswords.

Just watched  On Utube our match v GWS the last round before the finals in 2018. Although I was at that match, I hadn’t realised just how clever was Spargo, both by hand and foot setting up a number of goals . Lost his way last year, but having watched this I believe we should persevere with hiM

The little fella was at it again on the weekend.   He has the midas touch.

For all the angst he cops on here he is absolutely vital to our team.

Makes good position, and doesn’t get sucked in to the contest when not needed. In the first quarter, watch him putting himself in the position to give Jones an option which then translated to a foot pass and goal to Kozzie. Have seen him doing this regularly, and he also works hard up and down the ground. Hoping he can build on this to consistently have more impact on games.

Would love to put his footy brain in ANB's body. Would have a great player!

Jokes aside Charlie did well on the weekend. He's not quick or a superstar but an important cog when we're firing.

Similar to how some people were knocking Jordon in another thread before the game. You need players like this in the team

Rarely misses a target i50 .... a scarce commodity at Melbourne.  The more he gets the ball, the more valuable he will become.  An important player (gut feeling says 'on the rise!').

I know recruiting is an inexact science but people around here are very quick to write off young players.

He was very good on the weekend and will be a vital member of the team this year and beyond.

Too right. He turned 21 at the end of last year. I suspect he'll be one of those players that never draws many accolades, but quietly plays a role each week and before you know it he's carved out a 10 year career. Can't think of anyone in the team I'd rather have delivering the ball inside 50 tbh.

I'm his biggest critic, great to see him have a great game but hopefully he can carry this on against some decent sides

I can't work out how to get the stats to confirm (I've checked numbers against a small group of players, but not across the whole competition) but I he has one of the highest "score involvement per disposal" ratios in the league.

Sounds like a niche stat but it supports the idea that he is creative and uses it well, and that when he is involved we have a higher chance of improving our field position.

He does need to lift his average disposals a little. If he was pushing 20 instead of 10 he'd be particular valuable.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
