Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Spoon Favourites

Just heard some clown from either Sportsbet or some other agency on SEN say that they opened their future markets today and Melbourne have firmed as the favourites to take out this year’s wooden spoon. Interesting. He cited the fact that GC would play a host of games up there has seen Melbourne move into the spoon favourite spot.

if we finish bottom, compromised year or not, surely Goodwin hands in his contract and resigns. We have no excuses. No injuries. He has rebuilt the team as he wanted and in my opinion destroyed a lot of Roos’ good work.

Let’s hope this is not a prediction of what is to come

After 2019 and our performance in round one, if you went for another team and looked at our club, you’d have to agree.

With the AFL announcing the season being out on hold an hour before the game I don't think we can draw any conclusions from round one. The AFL should have waited until the end of round 1 to make the decision to out the season on hold, simples.

Some good, positive points there, L_36. Hopefully, a game plan based on OMac getting at least one kick by the third quarter just didn't bring home the 'bickies for us over the past four years and will wither on the vine around Goodwin's neck.

You must have misheard.

We are mid-range for pretty much every futures bet, including the flag, most (and least) wins, top 8, top 4 etc. Not even close to being "favourites" for the spoon at every major outlet I've seen, nor have they "firmed" in any market, let alone the wooden spoon.

Hard to argue.

Two teams played in that game so I don’t buy that for an excuse. We played exactly as we did in 2019 hence we’re now (according to some), spoon favourites.

They were at home, quick 20 or 30 minute drive, have a cold one out of their own fridge and relax...

We were stuck over the other side of the country, states were closing borders and players had nothing but uncertainty.

It had an impact.

We should never had to go over in the first place, round one was AFL folly...

the Crows should be favourite for the spoon imo.

they've got no big bodied mids left after letting both Greenwood and Ellis-Yolmen go, which means teams will target their small ball winners like Sloane and the Crouch bros and absolutely smash them. well that would be my plan anyway!

plus they've also got a new coach implementing a new game plan and they'll probably be playing more than a few untried kids in an attempt to sort out where the list is at.

I think those things together will see them lose a lot of games.

I do understand all of this but I just think after our 2019 season they should still have been prepared and willing to give it 100%. Anyway, let’s hope we prove the critics wrong.

This is great news I hope it's true.

What an incentive to the coach and players.

This is what the football world thinks about you. Are you gonna prove them right or are you going to go out there and beat your opponent, join your teammates , beat the opposition and stick it right up em.

oh maybe that's been used before. Did it have any success?

Agree. Throw the swans in as well.

Look I didn't like our round one performance but aside from the first quarter the Eagles never blew us away. In Perth, having to travel, found out the decision on the season postponement on the bus; I'm not saying it mitigates a lackluster performance after a big pre-season of blowing winds of change but we've got one game to go on and we were beaten by a flag favourites at their home by 27 points. It could've been a lot worse.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
