Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

They got their big fish, then.

Good move from Norf.

They have an ageing list, so tyson should be able to play his preferred position for the next few years.

And being able to gain Preuss at the same time adds what we need, so good win/win trade.

Absolutely but Polec is flakey and Tyson is a goer and that's it. They needed two or three Josh Kelly's.

GC need to come in with a long term, good offer for Dom.  Don't think North would be offering him money he was on with us, $500k per year and certainly not for a long term.

GC could make him an offer he can't refuse.

I can't see how he is a straight swap for a bloke who didn't play a game this year and has a total of 8 games. Ridiculous.

The Suns remain keen to lure the Victorian to Metricon Stadium and it's understood they're prepared to pay a premium – both in salary and tenure – to do so.

However, it's understood Tyson, who spent the first two years of his career with Greater Western Sydney, would prefer to remain in Melbourne.

The midfielder would also prefer to join a team where he can enjoy on-field success in the near future, having endured the tough times of the Giants' early years and Melbourne's lengthy rebuild under Paul Roos.

"Tyson is contracted at the Demons for 2019 but has been exploring opportunities at rival clubs in the hope of spending more time in his preferred position as an inside midfielder.

The 25-year-old was linked to Essendon ahead of the NAB AFL Trade Period, but Gold Coast has since emerged as his most ardent suitor."

Rucks are in demand. I agree that they may not be a straight swap but can see why the clubs would do the deal. Dom is a 30s or 40s pick perhaps. In the past players like David Hale have moved for a late 20s pick and swap of late picks from memory. Preuss certainly is not David Hale but I think he showed enough in 8 games to suggest he was capable of replacing Goldstein if they persisted with him. Most outsiders can't figure out why Preuss wants to come to us as there is a perception of him being good enough to be a number 1 ruck at AFL level. He'd get more chance at that elsewhere.

I think based on that speculation I'm happy for the club to take a gamble and swap him for Tyson if it improves our list. If we do play Preuss and Gawn in the same team it would hopefully provide our mids with first use for 4 quarters. If Gawn does get injured we have insurance as well.

I have always been totally in favour of getting Preuss. I just don't think he is worth Tyson.

Couldn't agree more, if he was highly valued at Arden St he would have been playing wouldn't he?

Big Pruessy is in the 40-50's range.

Straight swap for Preuss? Ew, guy can't get a game at Norf, Tyson is best 22 for us. Preuss will play VFL unless Max is injured.

Tyson will play VFL unless 2 or more of Oliver/Viney/Gus/Harmes/Jones and likely several others are injured.

A back up ruck is an asset worth somewhere between picks 30 and 50. A back up midfielder in Tyson has similar value.

North are probably only interested in Tyson because they can give him a restructured contract that is frontloaded for 2019 and then have him as cheap depth for 2020 and maybe longer whilst they chase the big fishies.

Sounds like Tyson is a straight swap for Preuss. North have done well here... But in saying that the Dees get a Ruck/Forward who I think is going to take the Dees to another level and give Max longetivty in the game. Preuss and Gawn will reap havoc on the opposition. Preuss is a massive get for the Dees!

Good luck Dom! Welcome Braydon...

Wtf.

We must need the backup ruck role desperately.

North should at least give us pick 57 or 67 as a side order to go with Preuss.  They are unlikely to use them anyway.

I think we're looking at things with prudence.

If we require another ready to go ruck...then who ? If we're going back to the future with two rucks ...who ?

Need another best 22-25 mid....we can cover.

Therefore Tyson is less important than Preuss. Imho.

Or maybe, the FD just want to get things done and realise that #winning every trade is for people that get hoisted on petards and not for those that trade for players that help us win a flag?

And secondly, a back up ruck to help Gawn is much more important than our 6th best inside mid.

Didnt think I needed to make that explicit...

Gawn has an injury history, tape around his calf second half of the season and has just played 25 games.

Right now, we need Preuss more than we need Tyson. That's why we do the swap. Forget how many games they played. We know Preuss can hang with the big boys and will be the perfect support for Max, something we've all been crying out for.

Tyson has been playing at Casey and then shunted to a wing, where he has little impact, when in the senior side.

I'd swap Tyson for Preuss every day of the week in terms of how well it will help to balance the list.

Preuss is also a bit of insurance if we don't get May.  Won't be as good as May to take on the 'gorilla' defenders but as I said some insurance.

Lots of reasons to have Preuss over Tyson.  As Mahoney said the goal this trade period is team balance.  Player value more important than pick value.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Carlton

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
