Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

A good mate of mine knows a few of Jesse's family. The story goes that apparently Jesse never felt fully accepted at MFC, he was always on the outer. Claimed that even though he raised trade possibility with the club, he definitely felt pushed.

3rd hand info, so take as you will.

Maybe he wouldn’t have felt pushed if he agreed to sign an extension.

The only angst anyone will have is of their own creation.

The positive is we are Melbourne. ... And everyone else isn't.

Am looking forward to seeing our noobs in red and blue. What others do ... . isn't us.

Hang on. Not shooting you down here, Moonman, but Jesse "never felt fully accepted" at Melbourne? Surely not.

And if there is even a skerric of truth in it, I wonder if it might have been because he never committed long-term?

There's a sea out there.

It's a mass of perceptions , of interpretation , of half descriptions.

Always a WA boy.

His heart was back home and could never fully commit to us.

Just another opposition player now.

We will win it without him.

He made the right call, aside from the stated homesick and personal issues from constant injuries to games with no impact Jesse needed a fresh start. Who knows the effects of watching a team you where brought into in its darkest days push into September whilst you sit on the sidelines, perhaps he saw that the team had gone around him and he was no longer a key piece. Maybe he was frustrated with his playing position and the teams style, maybe Dean Kent moving on helped the decision.

Jesse will be a good forward but not the best, Freo would want to improve a lot from this season to give him good opportunities. Whilst i would rather have him in the side we will not good backwards from this, others will get their opportunities and  Melbourne will be a very strong attacking side 2019.

Wouldn't be surprised. Would explain the massive unders we took for him. Let this sink in. GWS traded Boyd 1 year in for pick 4 and griffen and they were offering pick 6 and another later pick for griffen.

Boyd had and still has not showed a quarter of the potential of hogan

I’m interested to hear what the reaction is at the G for the inevitable game we play against them next year. Will we boo him? Nuff nuffs? What do you reckon?

I hope we don't.  This has been conducted with the highest levels of public integrity.  We know he has had issues and struggles.  I'd rather it's clsp and support him.  His statement is brave. I can't remember reading a quote from an AFL player that puts family and friends above final in the way that he has stated it.

Knowing he was in discussions with Fyfe and Lyon last year places a full stop on this for me. He has had one foot in Freo for some time. That was always suspected but it’s beyond a shadow of a doubt now.

He’s a Fremantle player who once played for Melbourne. Good luck to him. Time to move on.

I had a bit of a soft spot for Freo, fellow travellers in adversity and all that.  I don't wish Jesse any ill will personally but Freo have lost me.

I don’t like North and Freo are up there with them now, unlikeable but unremarkable.

That was NEVER happening. You see that now ? He was ALWAYS going...

In some respects he'd been gone for a while.

Such is life.

We'll ( MFC) be fine.

Considering the message he left the MFC on Instagram i wonder about that.

My take on all this is right now, he is not 100% tuned in to play. At the MFC that is what is required. I still hold the hunch he may return in 3-5 years, if he is still fit to play

Hogan is fully aware of what he might be leaving behind at Melbourne after their preliminary final appearance in 2018.

“To come from the bottom and see the list now and how close they potentially are to winning a flag, that was a serious factor going into this,” he said.

“But I sat down with Simon Goodwin at the end of the year and had a really good chat about where I was at mentally and as a footballer.

“Obviously I do want to play in finals and flags, but at this stage it was more important to get back around my family and friends, and have a fresh start.”

"I caught up with Nat and Ross last year in the case of a random trade and the way they were talking with a bit of a five-year plan, it kind of aligned with where I was at,” Hogan said.

“Then this year we had further conversations about it with a bit more depth and they aligned with where I was at.

“I agreed with what Nat and Ross were saying so the natural pull to Freo was on the back of those conversations.”

After reading that I hope Goody & Jack have been sitting down & having a chat with young Cera & talking a bit of a 5 year plan & aligning where he's at...then we can have further conversations with a bit more depth next trade period and get him onboard in 2020...

Probably more appropriate in this thread...

Yep, that’s interesting. If true, I wonder if Dean Kent leaving to go to the Saints represented the loss of a mate in circumstances where he was already feeling a bit isolated, and he just thought - it’s time.

I heard (again hearsay to the power of the distance between the Earth and the Sun) that the leadership group wasn’t entirely happy with him. Added to this, a mate who’s wife is best friends with the wife of an absolute club legend (former player) told me that Hogan’s name was involved in trade discussions last year - I didn’t post it at the time because I couldn’t be bothered dealing with the wrath of a few here.

Anyway - whatever the reasons, he’s now gone. As I said, he seems like a decent fellow - but, as an observer from afar, Hogan’s relationship with the club always had an awkwardness about it.

I think I’m going to love Sam May.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
