there's no way lewis is being dropped, and i'd doubt vince will either

anb completely blanketed motlop out of the game, but didn't make the most of his opportunities up forward, and harmes kept running and kept presenting

if we do choose to bring in another tall back, our whole defensive structure is messed with, no matter who rotates out

That's well and good re harmed but he butchered a number of kicks . I have not seen butchering that good since being into my local butcher

Stretch needs time in the middle, not off half back. Weed into assist Hogan, with McDonald in doubt. Tyson should not play again, he is woeful, I would move Vince out, but not sure who comes in for him.

Forgot Stretch for Tyson...Tyson not particularly good at inside or outside and we need outside run. Don't think Billy is necessarily the answer either but worth one more roll of die until Kent returns

I think Joel Smith has been handy. He is certainly only a 3rd tall defender though, Frost better to take the 2nd best forward

Frost deserves a chance for the next month in a Melbourne side that will have the ball live in its forward half. He's always the scape goat when when the rest of the side fails miserably (I.e. Hawthorn). Give him a go when we have double the inside 50s to our opposition. We've seen how much better Oscar has looked when our midfield out-pressure the opposition.

Frost should be under instruction to play within his limitations and handpass to a Salem, Lewis or Hibberd every time he touches the ball. I'd have him do the back up ruck work and tackle to hurt at centre bounces like he loves doing.

He's too big, strong and fast to be wallowing at Casey while we have an undersized and slow backline at one end, and Tim Smith offering absolutely nothing at the other.

His first match was ok.  Completely MIA last night IMO.  Wagner will be a better alternative and in better form vs a less tall (compared to Port) Saints line up.  We will need an extra medium back to help clean up at ground level, assuming Frost comes in to replace Vince.

Take about throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

You bring players in to strengthen the team. None of those changes do that.

This is Demonland, and this is the changes thread after a loss, a pinch of salt or a strong drink are required for some of the posts

ANB did a job on Mottlop, Tyson played his role, same with Tim Smith

Out Vince in Petty depending on the Saints forward line setup.  Not sure how tall they will go.

in Stretch and Garlett

out Tyson, Harmes or ANB

in Weids if TMac doesn’t get up.

I just think we have to try and play Garlett into form as he provides speed and can make something out of nothing up forward and didn’t we need that last night!

Stretch has done everything asked of him and we have to reward effort in the magoos to keep pressure on the firsts.

The coaching panel’s obsession with hard, contested footy types is commendable but the last 2 games show we also need some X factor, silky skills as well. Jimmy Bartel spoke about this last night on CH7, he loved our contested endeavour but said there  are more layers to success than see ball get ball stuff.

OMac needs help with the bigger guys so looking longer term maybe Petty is the answer to losing Lever and allows J Smith and Hibberd to rebound more until Hunt is fit and shows something.

The obvious choice down back is Frost but I, like many others worry about his decision making, he is not a natural footy player, but a great athlete. He needs more time to work on his game at VFL level.

Will be interesting if Goody restructures up forward or just assumes that things will be easier because we are playing a side lower down the ladder.

As I said in my rankings this week, I think it is time we sent Petracca back to the VFL. He needs some tough love to force him to take his game to the next level.I've been banging on for some time on how he doesn't go back far enough when he gets a free or a mark and his low-flat kicks are easy to pick off or just smother. It's a flaw that needed addressing a long time back now and it infuriates me that he's been allowed to get away with it because we all know he's a serious talent. In three weeks time we have some really big games and that's how long he should have in the VFL to get his fitness and his headspace right. The obvious replacement is Stretch. If Billy doesn't get a go this week, then he should ask for a trade to Port now - he is way too good at VFL level to be shafted week after week. I am sure that Goody will pick Stretch this week and my guess is that he will drop Tyson again because he doesn't want to confront the Trac issue and Dom did make a couple of howlers.

I also mentioned that Weid has arrived - or at least almost. At training this week he moved like a midfielder. His agility is up and he gives a quick handball give and now he even has some goals behind him. He is ready to have an impact at AFL level and that means Tim Smith misses out. Bull has done little wrong but Weid is the future and he is no longer a kid who gets pushed aside. He has to play now.

The other player who should be in the mix this week is Frosty. I can't read what they are doing with him. He clearly was needed for Westhoff or Dixon and we decided to send him forward in the VFL last week and then he played as a forward in training drills this week. So he then lines up in defence in the VFL this week. Go figure! Against the Saints we need him as a big for either McCartin or Membrey or Bruce if he plays. It's a question of who Frosty replaces and whilst it would be a tough call to drop Vince or Lewis but it might happen.

Goody also has to consider whether he sends Hoges down back early against the Saints to get his confidence back up before moving him forward after half time.If he does that he might decide we don't need Frosty yet and he can recall either Bugg or Spargo to provide more bite around the packs.

It's a tough gig being a coach when you lose and putting up with know it alls like us!

I think this week against the Saints is the wrong week to bring in a second tall defender unless we think Josh Bruce will play. OMac and J. Smith are the right size match-ups for McCartin and Mambrey, unless we want to release Smith into a more running role (probably instead of Vince) or if OMac is suspended. There will come a time to bring in another tall defender but we can cover this week.

In terms of other spots, Tim Smith offers a bit as a tackler but doesn’t hit the scoreboard much and offers little in the ruck. Whilst it’s important to create forward pressure, our conversion against Port was awful. Weid gets less of the ball but is more likely to score when he does and is a better second ruck option. He is also the future, Bull is not. On the subject of scoring, we were crying out for someone to take a half chance in that last quarter against Port. Felt like a Garlett cameo moment. He doesn’t touch it much but generally takes his chances and lays 3 tackles a game.

Tyson offered little on the weekend and Harmes butchered it. Petracca at least started on fire and his touches have more impact. So I’d be looking at:

Ins: Weid, Garlett/Stretch (very good VFL form)

Outs: T Smith and Tyson

Ins  Weideman, Petty, Garlett

Outs T.Smith, Petracca Vince

No to Vince and Lewis in the same team fand why not pull that trigger over the next three weeks given the games coming...Petracca out to either get over an injury or just get his head straight.  Garlett is speed and X factor which we don't have much of (or at least the X factor we have isn't on display at the moment (Hogan Petracca), Weid in after 7 yesterday...offers more around the ground and is future.  Petty is future as well and wouldn't over think the match ups against the Saints...give the guy a few games.

Those calling for Garletts return, take out the Brisbane game and see when you can Last find him in the best players, actually see where you can find him in Casey's best players

A small forward occasionally appears in the best, it is not their role to dominate, they may appear if they kick a bag

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
