We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Tom McDonald Contract Talks

Demonland

Recommended Posts

If I was tom id be asking for whatever Hogan is getting (from memory the talk at the time was he signed for unders compared to what he could have got to go home), I just hope the club has put enough away to pay for that plus whatever we need to resign the rest of our young talent as they come out of contract.

Have a feeling the Suns are going to go very hard at Tom with a lot of $$$ and the AFL will be right behind it.

He's spent seven years at a struggling Melbourne who finally look like coming good (touch wood), there is no chance that he goes to another struggling club.

I think we have shown over the last few years that we know how to manage contract negotiations very well. If we were being managed like Carlton over the last decade, I'd be much more concerned.

Which makes me think...if we were Carlton, what would happen? I suspect we would trade Tom McDonald to the Gold Coast for their first round draft pick which is on-traded to GWS for 6 GWS fringe players to be added to our list.

And if we were Collingwood, we would be prepared to lose Tom McDonald in order to keep the dollars that he should earn in the pool just to make sure "favourite son" Weideman can be retained.

If we were St Kilda, we would look at trading Tom McDonald for three players who between them each have one or more recurrent, career-threatening injuries, off-field behavioural problems and are already known to be homesick for WA.

And if we were Fremantle, we'd be trading Tom McDonald to free up cash to pay secret payments to hush something up.

Not worried about this in the slightest.

Same goes for Brayshaw and Oscar - all the dialogue has been that their manager and the club are in constant discussions about new deals and it's just ironing out a few of the finer points before it's all done.  There is no 'putting it off till the end of the year' stuff.  I reckon these guys will be signed, sealed and delivered by the end of June at the latest.

Surely both parties would be seeking minimum 4, maybe 5 year contract?

What's he worth a season... $700K or is that now too little?

It’s all about salary rotation. TMac is at the peak of his powers and will be paid accordingly. Gawn is currently in the middle of his, Jones is out of contract next year, whilst he will no doubt go on he’s had his time at the top. Petracca still has to earn his.

At the end of the day we may lose someone but the majority should stay at the club.

700 would be a bargain. I expect some fluidity betwee p/a and years

Maybe 4.5 over 5... performance assured etc.

Exactly. I won't be worried unless I hear that contracts negotiations have been put on hold until the end of the year.

My guess is they will negotiate more years on less coin.

Tom probably wants more money than we want to spend, so we are probably countering that with a longer term offer to give him stability. Maybe even offering Oscar an extra year or two as an incentive.

Tom is so fit and such an endurance athlete, I would have no issues giving him a 5 year deal. His versatility and aerobic capacity will see him play for another 7-8 years easily (pending any disastrous injury run)

Roos said last night you get nothing for 800000 now so I would expect closer to the 4000000 for 4 years

Exactly.

They mentioned Degoey..Has a few ripper games in the space of a few weeks and suddenly clubs like North are reportedly lining up to offer him 800k per year.

If that's the case, a player like Tmac with an amazing tank, can cover all of the ground and is that key lead up forward who can also pinch hit, play down back, on the wing AND is a dead eye should be worth 1mill per season if we are looking at comparing values here.

Agree. I thought between 800 - 850 is about right. T Mac is going to bring massive value to our club and hopefully, the ultimate prize.

And to think that there was a 'I'm over Tom McDonald' thread on here four years ago (and one whose main thesis was that he should be moved on because he couldn't kick straight).

This.

We’ll give him a longer contract on slightly less money pa than he’d get elsewhere. 4.5 mil over 5 years would be ideal for both parties. Close to a mil a year, which will take up less salary cap for us in a few years time. 5 years for a surpreme endurance athlete who can be a rock up forward for that period.

Who in their right mind would put themselves through the torture of joining Gold Coast. When our club is just about to explode into premiership calculations.

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
