Was good to see in the second half that we lowered eyes and hit targets, we seemed to not have multiples flying with none down.

Seemed to have more outside the contest and handballs getting out to them.

still seem off the boil overall, but we have a lot of players who can lift and most are running through our midfield. Get them up and running and things change.

Still a lot to work on, must beat the saints this week.

Just a few passing thoughts-

Gawn was absolutely dominant. I know him and the midfield haven’t been in sync in our losses but he has been absolutely huge this year so far.

Hannan, Fritsch and Spargo gave a different sort of energy, liked it a lot.

Melksham is getting form back. One of our best kicks into the 50 and for goals.

Omac is having some sort of season. He is raw, lacks visible coordination but he has done the job most weeks. Coming along nicely.

Brayshaw was really encouraging in the centre square. Let him be part of the rotation and give Salem a more ‘loose’ role. Suits both of them.

I’d also like to give credit to one of our best players so far this year in Hogan. He had a bad ankle, bad knee but still flew for his marks today and created a contest. His (new found) mental toughness allowed him to not be a liability despite his physical limitations today. Has really became a team player this year and is levels above where he has previously been despite it maybe not showing up on the stat sheet.

Agreed and absolutely on Hogan

Was that supporter on the boundary in Gawns face bitten by a dog as well?

Was ugly wasnt it, pretty typical essescum..(the guy is allowed to take his kick mate)!...glad Max gave it back to him, should have been removed from the ground.

Richmond, Adelaide, Hawthorn, Sydney and probably West Coast.

Hawthorn who were thrashed by North ?  And were bog ordinary against St Kilda ?  Yeah, top side.

Adelaide who were pantsed by Collingwood at home ?  Yeah, top side.

Sydney who have lost twice at home to Adelaide sides ?  Yeah, top side.

West Coast, who beat Carlton at the G by 10 points ?  Yeah, top side.

Other than Richmond, who don't scare me, there are no top sides.

2 for 2 in disco blue.

I just watched the second half and I'm hoping that this will give us confidence moving forward.

While we didn't go through the corridor absolutely every time, at least eyes were lowered and the game taken on in patches.

Maxy was a cut above. Get his at shot goal kicking right and look out.

Spargo looked right at home for an 18 year old kid. When the heat came under packs, he didn't panic. He also had great composure in front of the big sticks.

I am also liking where the Weed is. He now has the body of an AFL footballer. He could be a missing piece if he gets some strut about him.

Nibbler and Harmes still seem to be in a rut. Maybe it's confidence but if someone is kicking the door down at Casey that we can bring in, maybe it would help for them to get some touch back there.

Anyway, onwards to next week.

So we lose by 48 pts last week and get ridiculed all week.  The Pies lose by 42 pts today and they get a pat on the back.

Both teams are on 3 wins and got blown  out of the water in the last qtr.

Garbage!!!

Really pleased to see Brayshaw and Salem running into form. Add Viney and Trac into that mix and things are looking pretty good. Also credit to the midfield coaches for maximising the advantage of Maxxy’s ruck domination.

It's because they've won a few games and it means the media is all over them.  Apart from a good win over the Crows, they've knocked off Essendon and Carlton.  They've been well covered in their 3 losses.  But the Pies sell papers, so talking them up means more $$$$

I watch as little of the cheats as possible so don’t see Parish play but if today is anything to go by I am glad we chose Clarry over him!

I thought Salem was excellent today.  He won some very tough one on ones.

There is 2 poor disposals that were unlike him.

So, the highest possession-getter for the team, and named in the bests - but you'd drop him.

Red and blue has an agenda, he posted 3 post saying how bad Salem was, he was the only one saying it, but he just kept on repeating the same thing to make it look like more posters are saying it.

I was thinking that......not sure if carrying an injury actually, even b4 he went down with the ankle.

He definitely was, was favouring his left leg (knee was strapped) before rolling the right ankle.

Love Spargo, we found something with this kid. Great debut game.

OMac continues his solid start to the season, hope there's some prepared to eat humble pie.

Agree that we still have a lot to work on but I think we can take the way we played in the second half and use that as confidence over the next few weeks.

Some things I was happy with today:

Angus Brayshaw: thought he was outstanding in the 3rd quarter and seems to be moving well. If he can get his confidence back and start to work towards his best this will go a long way to helping us reach finals.

Christian Salem: thought that he looked good across half back and would prefer we use him more there with stints in the midfield. He can win his own ball but I prefer him as more of a distributor.

Bayley Fritsch: love the way this guy goes about it and he looks to be building confidence that he belongs at this level. Could become a very handy medium tall in the mould of Jack Gunston.

Charlie Spargo: great debut by this young fella and just love his attack on the ball and man. We have really been lacking that energetic, quick forward and when Garlett is down we seem to struggle. Hopefully he can get back to his best and these two could really cause havoc up forward together.

Mitch Hannan: great return game for his and he is another we really need to get back to his best. I could see him becoming a really damaging wingman and I think this is what he should be aiming for.

Max Gawn was great again, I thought Sam Weideman fought on hard after a tough first 3 quarters and clunked a few great marks in the last. There is no point playing him at Casey anymore and we just need to keep playing him. He will have a game where he kicks 3-4 goals soon, I can feel it.

Flat track bullies.

Last year we couldn't beat the rubbish teams, Nth, Freo etc, and won games we weren't expected to win, Adelaide, WC etc.

Good to see Hibberd, Jetta, Brayshaw and Hannan find some form. Hannan and Brayshaw need to keep it going.

Frischte and Spargo both look good for 1st year players.

We would only be news if we had lost. Just watch this week, there will be plenty of positive media talk about Collingwood &  Richmond et al, and negatives about Essendon, saints, Carlton, but not a word about us.

Neal bullen fumbly n ineffective. James harmes racked it up but did nothing with his possesions.

Surely petracca n tim smith come in.

Harmes needs to give it off when having a set shot from 40-50 on an angle. He took his shot last week and today and both were poor efforts. He is not a great kick and needs to work to his strengths.

Well I got to work and thought it was safe to listen to the last 5 minutes. They were saying Spargo has to get the rising star nomination this week. I heard Jones being interviewed and they asked him about the short turnaround. He said he felt great leading up to it but during the first 1/4 he felt flat but willed himself to get moving.

That moron that got in Gawns face apparently did get evicted. Like your stupid snow banner u failed miserably.

Anyway spoke to my mum and she said it was great towards the end to see the essendon fans leaving.

Bit disappointed reading bomberblitz , they predicted we would win. But reading twitter gives you a laugh.

Good win today especially the 2nd half. Next week we must back it up. But happy to read about it in the paper tomorrow.

Yep, loved both of Charlie’s goals today (esp. Melkshams long kick to Spargo 30m clear in the fwd line).

but perhaps my fondest memory today of Charlie will be of him really giving it to Cale Hooker in a heated stoush. The boys got a lot of heart, and a bit of mongrel. Great debut.

Just watched replay. A few thoughts:

- Lever’s reaction on 3 q time when whatshisname played on and dropped the ball on the siren. Passive aggressive/ Hilarious!

- Anyone here from the cheer squad? After Tmacs second goal in the last quarter, theyre waving a big picture of Jeffy Garlett  in the crowd. Wouldn’t you just bring it out for the day when he’s actually playing?! Cheersquad needs to lift.

- Love a frothy milkshake

- Gawn copping a spray from that [censored] wit Bummers fan and giving it back after scoring a goal. Was that [censored] stain ejected? Disgraceful.

- Essendrug are a shitful rabble.

- Our back line seems to be gelling. Less face palm moments.

- Watching Joe ‘the lip’ Daniher ineffectually flap around like a intellectually challenged Labrador is always a viewing treat!

- Spargo has the mongrel.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
