How can it ever be a horrible night Hobart ???? You've got Lark, Sullivan's Cove, Nant and probably another half dozen excellent whiskeys down there. Buck up Big F

Ha unfortunately work is getting in the way of those sorts of activities.

In other news I've turned off the TV and am staring at the wall and it is providing more entertainment than the footy.

I cannot remember a season in which so many of  the games have been so bad to watch. 6-7 times already this season I have sat down to watch some footy (not the Dees, just trying to relax) and have switched it off. I actually switched the Commonwealth Games on, only to have to choose between synchronised diving, rhythmic gymastics or basketball!!

Carlton v North on a Saturday night - give me a break.

Don’t cash out on the double - north are killing them - you are home with a few extra dollars in your pocket - well done

Yeah Carlton, Gold Coast & Lions chock full of earlier draft picks got smashed by teams with less than a hand full of early picks. Geez this “draft” is such a great equalisation tool. But that’s only my opinion.

I am glad we don't play in Hobart this year. Having said that they should move North down there permanently and carlscum should play all their home games at Etihad instead of contaminating the MCG.

As much as I'd like to see us in the flesh I'm glad we aren't playing down here too.  Because we always lose.

Was just going to type the same thing, as I said in another thread, how the hell is Dees v Hawks not one of the prime time games this weekend?!?!

Agree the Standard of games has been shizen this year. Not enough talent going around IMO.

Channel 7 must be so pleased they used their influence to give carlton another fta night game.

What a bunch of imbacilic [censored] wits channel 7 and the AFL are, handing that undeserving basket case of a club 6 Friday night marquee games and fta time slots without even deserving of them through game performances.

Where is the football integrity inside the AFL? Nowhere it doesn't exist, I hope the media really gets stuck into Carlton, channel 7 and the AFL this week.

Pisses me right off as to how you can possibly watch crap like that on a Saturday night.

The only way I can bet on Melbourne is to take them each way in a multi. We have the talent to win today but we are arguably the most mentally inconsistent of all 18 teams.

I can see Carlton where we were 5 years ago. Maybe not quite as bad but getting close.

They have thrown so much senior experience out, it is now counterproductive. If you look at their 2010-11 list and how many quality players they gave away for nothing, it really was a disgrace. If they had held their nerve, kept the list they had and let Ratts continue, they might be a premiership team today.

They are lucky that their golden era coincided with the rise of TV as a medium. I view them as the modern equivalent of 1970's-early 80's Melbourne. Living off past glories with the next premiership nothing more than a pipe dream.

Have to agree, this has been one of the worst lacklustre starts to a season with more dud games than good ones I can remember. Unusual to see so many lame duck games early in the season. Standards have been appalling. FTA TV missteps have only amplified the problem.

It's great watching Carlton get absolutely flogged, even if it is by North.

Even after their poor start to the year the media still want to try and talk up Bolton, talk up their 'good' young players... and then they come out yet again and serve up this sort of rubbish.  They are going nowhere, fast, and it's a joy to watch.

Maybe SOS can recruit even more GWS cast offs at the end of the season to get them going.

I love how they mention they are young with a high proportion of first round picks. They fail to mention that 8 of those first round picks were originally chosen by other clubs and 5 of those were originally overrated by the same bloke that traded for them with GWS.

Golden era? Totally tainted era of brown paper bags and salary cap breaches.

Ps at least they did it right and won flags, we even stuffed cheating up.

Carlton need to break out the cheque book and bring in Paul Roos for a few years.

Come to think of it so do St Kilda.  And Brisbane.

The salary cap was introduced in 1987 (which was rorted so badly they had an amnesty in which clubs could fess up to past sins), the year Carlton won their second last flag.

They won four flags before that when TV only showed highlights of the match of the round. When shows like the Winners were on, all everyone got was their comeback third quarter during their premiership era.

This is the same reason why Hawthorn's latent support base came out of the woodwork in the late 90's (that and the merger debate). For years, they were on the telly as they were playing when it was most consequential.

The era prior to 1987 wasn't tainted (1995 onwards may be a different story) as there  was no cap to breach.

So when will the "integrity board" start their investigation?  LOL

Watch the game again yourself and you’ll see what i mean. Then watch them playing Richmond. Totally different effort.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
