6 Gawn - his harassment in the first half was amazing. Needs to look at how he gave away free kicks though and got nothing back from maggots.

5 Petracca - with Oliver copping a hard tag he stepped up with Salem for three quarters. Smart arse in last term though.

4 Hogan - how mobile was he up forward and he kept presenting. If he could figure out how to kick a long ball he’d be a superstar.

3 Wagner - our best defender today - Anybody who puts him in their possible outs this week is brain dead.

2 Jones - play of the day when he set up Garlett and really lifted after half time when pace came off game.

1 Bugg - clever at times,’wasteful at others but kept working and finally things paid off for him.

6 - Gawn -  He will walk into the AA side unopposed., He is just too dominant and gave Goldstein a footy lesson.

5 - Hogan -  He will join Gawny there too.  Dominant.  No team has a matchup for him when he gor in the midfield. He is massive and can has a big tank. Usdes the ball very well in there too. Superstar.

4 -  Petracca -  He is getting plenty of the ball and thats what we needed to see for the next step in his evolution. Exciting times.

3 - Wagner -  glad to say I have always been a fan of him. Rock solid today.  Let the improvement continue.

2 - Bugg  -  Redemption.    Kicked the sealer, and you just know that would have [censored] off the North supporters.  Thanks Buggy.

1 -  Lewis -  best game for a while from the veteran.  Perfect time to hit form heading into the Hawthorn game

Petracca

Wagner.

Amazed that anyone could leave out Jones.   His cool head in the last put the game beyond reach. He had a huge finish. Had a hand in nearly every goal.

Boy this one is tough.

6 - Gawn

What can I say? Best player on the park. Good in the air when needed and torched the hit outs against a quality ruckman.

5 - Hogan

We all want to see him kick goals but geez I love what this guy offers around the ground. His field kicking is brilliant and more often than not uses it well.

4 - Lewis

The game he needed to play. Composed when we needed it, won a few good 50-50s, glad he’s there.

3 - Petracca

Getting plenty of it. Loved the confidence to just play on and dob it even when he had recently had the yips. Song of a true great.

2 - Jones

Came into it after half time doing what he does best. 25 touches 11 contested and 7 tackles.

1 - Kent

This could have easily gone to Bugg but I was just so impressed with the way Kent stood up when it mattered. Especially in the 3rd when we found it so hard to break through. Welcome back son!

Apologies to Bugg, Salem and Wagner

Hogan 6

Gawn 5

Bugg 4 (kicked them when we needed them)

Petracca 3

Kent 2 (proved me wrong)

Tyson 1 (needs the love but it could have been Lewis)

And minus 10 for the umpiring ... absolutely bewildering

6.  Gawn  -  No superlative is good enough!

5.  Hogan  -  Outstanding.  Confirmed that he is more than a KPF.

4.  Jones  -  Back to his best and still cuts it as an inside mid.

3.  Petracca  -  So strong and finding more of the ball every week

2.  Wagner  -  Composure is improving with game time and getting better all the time.

1.  Bugg  -  Great work ethic and kicked 4 critical goals.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
